  1. And if they didn't have enough good players in the pipeline. 11 PTOs isn't a good thing.
  2. We don't know what Verbeek's offer was. We only know what the counter was to kick off arbitration. As has been clarified here a lot, that is not an offer.l and is almost always a pretty different number than real negotiations.
  3. Because then thenarbiter would get mad. The existence of high and low offers within the margins doesn't mean thennext logical step is outlandish offers, not does it negate how the system currently works.
  4. I honestly don't think either side gives much discussion. The number is the discussion, as they know the arbiter finds comps and aims for somewhere in the middle. As for starting there, the player usually aims high, so that forces the team to aim low. Otherwise, the arbiter might land between the right number and the high number.
  5. They used his $8M and presented a number where the mid point is supported by comparables. That's why arbitration nunbers aren't the same as the offer.
  6. I don't think it was bad at all. #1, it wasn't an offer, it was a bracket on an arbitration range. But setting the bracket there made $7M look way mire attractive than it did when Terry put in for $8M. That's great chess.
  7. Ia the $4.5M the offer that made TT decide.on arbitration? Or do teams put in a new offer (likely lowball) once the arbitrarion process starts?
  8. Who makes big trades on the first few days of FA? Are you new?
  9. Sure there is. We need to see what contracts and trades are out there closer to the time we actually need to move. What LW is out there that has enough contract to last to our next window that is worth trading some of the pieces that can get us there? We can look at UFA, or better, wait until NEXT summer.
  10. In a rebuild, on the precipice of getting another key piece with other key pieces about to make their move into the NHL. We need to know what we have to see what veterans we need to fill slots, and not be giving up much to get them. UFA serves us a lot better than trades at this moment.
  11. ... is in a different phase than any if those teams.
  12. I agree with this to a degree. Getting NHL time and getting discouraged by handling more than you can is a fine line. I'm fine with protecting the minutes of the true newborns.
  13. Agreed. Making the comment doesn't establish intent. You can stumble into "mission accomplished." With the amount of near misses in the heat of things, it just couldn't have been intentional unless they were REALLY good shots and missed inches each. But if they could do that, then why wouldn't they just be great?
  14. By having two of those years impacted by a pandemic one year mired in a GM controversy and departure, and another year in a known holding pattern with a new GM.
  15. A very boring game overall, but I liked Nesterenko.
