  1. While I´m not a fan of these long negotiations I can understand the Zegras situation. What I don´t get is what´s taking so long with Drysdale? The kid has zero leverage and I don´t believe PV is offering him Disneyland season tickets.
  2. That french 'article' you posted is a whole lot of nothing. If Zegras really feels that way about the Terry extension I don´t mind seeing him pack his bags. There´s more to hockey than scoring michigans. Terry has been our best player. Not saying Zegras can´t be better but he hasn´t been so far.
  3. McT looks to be a guy who eats, breathes and sh*ts hockey. It would be uncommon to name him captain given Terry´s extension and role but I can definitely see the captain material in McT. I think McT is going to be the guy on this team.
  4. Not too familiar with those stats but thanks for looking it up. Nonetheless I wouldn´t give him more than 7M on a bridge deal.
  5. In group two I see Robertson, Ekblad, Hischier,... Zegras is not that so my proposed $6.5M doesn´t seem that far off. Maybe a little more or one year less but I wouldn´t go over 7. Matthew Tkachuk signed a 3 year $7M AAV deal prior to his contract. I think he posted better numbers also.
  6. It´s not about playing games. It´s about paying players what they deserve and keep the club in good financial shape. Giving out $9M AAV just because we can isn´t the way to go. If you ignore the stats (which are very good considering the abysmal state of our team) you have the fact that Zegras is ´marketable´ but apart from that there´s not very much to like about his game. He runs his mouth too much, he takes dumb penalties, he´s not good at faceoffs and his defensive game is lacking. So IMO $9M is an overpay. Doesn´t mean I don´t like him. We have to keep him but I think a bridge deal is in both parties best interests. It gives Zegras more time to develop his game because I believe he can be better in some of the abovementioned areas and the team should give him that opportunity. It gives the team time to see what he can become and what his role will be going forward (winger/center). No idea about the numbers. Would 3 years at $6.5M would work?
  7. Adding Brodie and Liljegren to our abysmal d corps would definitely help. But losing Vatrano´s goals will definitely not help unless we play much better as a team. Robertson so far has been a lot of nothing. Maybe it helps getting his brother over here someday.
  8. He´s still signed for the upcoming season no? The extension kicks in next year.
  9. "The CBA (in Article 15, paragraph 4 if you like to read the original material) says teams must dress at least eight “veterans” for each preseason game. It’s significant that word is not capitalised because the definition does not tie out to how we use it in normal conversation. A player is considered to be a “veteran” if they meet any one of the following criteria: Skaters who played 30 NHL games the previous season..." Maybe because of this? Basically just to have a warm body around.
  10. I´d also like it to be done but it´s not uncommon I think. Bouchard, Lafreniere, Pinto and probably several others are also still unsigned.
  11. Excellent move. Not a trade that will put us over the top but he´s big and physical and led buffalo in blocked shots. That must satisfy Gibson to some extent. Great work by PV. Now get those Zegras and Drysdale´s contracts signed.
  12. Apparently petry didn´t want to waive for san jose because he didn´t want to be too far away from his family. If that was really true he was never going to end up here, no matter what PV was putting on the table.
  13. Isn´t it too early to judge his trades? We got Gaucher out of the Lindholm trade. Too early to tell what we have in him but so far it looks promising. Also Damian Clara. No idea how he´ll turn out. I think we have another pick next year. Same for the Manson trade. We have yet to see in what Helleson will develop. We also have Terrance from this year´s draft. The Rakell trade gave us Clang and Luneau. Again very promising as far as Luneau is concerned. The Klingberg signing was a great idea. Except nobody expected us to be this bad and him to be so terrible. It was a gamble worth taking that unfortunately for us backfired. It happens. But again maybe we have something in Nesterenko. Not all of the aforementioned kids will become regular NHL´ers but a couple probably will.
  14. As dtsdlaw suggested, maybe petry is available. He´ll not be the answer to all our problems but he´s better than white and an injured Vaakanainen.
  15. I´m disappointed as well but if he took a 1 year deal at that salary from arizona there must be something going on no? Unless he really really likes arizona for some reason.
  16. I don´t like how it went down either but we don´t know what happened. Maybe Terry and Zegras tried to squeeze PV for extra dollars because of the rising cap. In that case he would be right. Just because extra money can be spend doesn´t mean we have to give it to them. Although in Zegras situation it´s more of a to bridge or not to bridge situation I think.
  17. From the team´s POV you want max term on Z´s contract but I can easily see why he would want to bridge. Zegras is confident and if he thinks the team will be better in two years, his stats will be too hence more money. Maybe his buddy Drysdale (whom most certainly will get a bridge deal) can talk him out of it after missing a year with an injury. Also Lundestrom´s injury might make him rethink a possible bridge deal too. Quite horrible I´m thinking that way but that is exactly why you should take the money. If Zegras pictures himself staying in Anaheim that is.
  18. Now I don´t have to take back the nice things I said about PV. Great contract.
  19. Great news. I really thought PV was going to screw this up. Now here´s to hoping he doesn´t trade him.
  20. I´m not saying PV can never consult other GM´s. I meant in this particular case nobody should have to point out to him how important Terry is to this team. If he doesn´t realise that he picked the wrong job.
  21. If PV needs advice from other GM´s in this case he should just quit. Terry is perhaps our best player. He´s been a 60-65 points player the past two seasons on the worst team in the league while being defensively responsible. On a good team he might be a 75-80 points player. Nobody has to tell him that. We have loads of cap space and not many talented young wingers. A guy like Terry is a godsend for this franchise. If you´re prepared to overpay for aging vets (which PV rightfully has done) he should be willing to overpay (a little) or hand out a longer term for our best young winger. If PV doesn´t realise that he´s a numbnuts. I really don´t get this unless Terry has let it known to PV that he doesn´t want to sign long term.
  22. Very much this. We already have problems attracting UFA´s and now this. Not to mention the blatant disrespect towards Terry.
  23. Well I have to take back the nice things I´ve said about PV. This is a disgrace. Question, are the numbers that are being reported the actual offer the team made him or is it solely for the arbitration hearing? So now we´re seeing an offer of 4.5 mil but could it be that the team has made him a 5 years at 6 mil AAV offer and that the Terry camp was looking for let´s say 6 x 8 AAV? And because they couldn´t agree they now have to make an offer for 1- 2 years. 5 x 6 AAV is still not enough for Terry but it´s not such a big disgrace.
  24. I'm also becoming antsy. I've been supportive of PV so far but this thing should never go to arbitration. You should re-sign your best player not at all cost but especially in our situation you do go the extra mile. Unless Terry's ask is absurd this makes PV look really bad. That is if Terry wants to stay of course.
