  1. That entire franchise is a whole lotta Bjork 😆 Indeed, he sees no opening for himself on D with our pipeline and it would be easier to crack the lineup on the Sharts, we discussed it ad nauseam last year. Or he just hates the Ducks.
  2. DSP went on to be a cup champion with WSH if I recall correctly. Cullen, too?
  3. You sir, are my Silver Linings Champion. The team was taken by storm by Zegras' NHL game cover appearance and other antics, it's like nobody wanted to talk about any other Duck than Z (maybe Gibson and Getzlaf's retirement were bigger topics). It's healthy for the team to spend some time without him, no matter how bad it is for the on-ice product, so if he's very very stubborn, let him sign November 1st. Still enough time to gel with the guys and rack up some points, but show him we can play without him. JD was reported to be a slacker so he must be fine sitting on the couch waiting for a new deal. Z on the other hand is very passionate and must be fuming at the situation.
  4. RIP Nic, such horrible, horrible news, young is not a way to die. All people should live a long and happy, fun-filled life.
  5. Asterisk: if he doesn't demand a trade out of town, that is.
  6. Exactly, and we even have a history of this, the Swede deals you mentioned, the Kariya debacle that's been mentioned a few times, too. Ducks are not the most favorable destination so self-entitled superstars will haggle ten times over before giving this team any man-hours on the rink. Both Gudas and Killorn are grossly overpaid, one could say Strome and Vatrano are too, it's just the way it is. Just like a coach's only punishment for a player is reduction in playing time, Verbeek's only leverage here is the December 1st deadline, but I'm hopeful that Zegras realizes he needs to play in order to advertise himself more, even if he wants out, we own the rights and the ice time.
  7. He doesn't drink, throw barstools at random people, doesn't ask his rookies for their summer photos while berating them and actually goes out and overpays expensive FA's to come here unlike this previous GM that we had. Still not a Vegas GM, but overall an upgrade.
  8. They're not, 95 points is an honest pipe dream at his point, we'd be lucky to dig ourseleves out of the 60pt cellar. But when you give people upwards of $8 - you 1. Believe that the team is ready to compete RIGHT NOW and 2. Think that the player you give this money to is solid as nails and you are confident he will cover a top-six hole on your roster for years to come. We've discussed the 'is Z a center?' topic in fair depth over the summer and I got a feeling that the consensus was he and Strome need to move to wing becase we are so ridiculously shallow at F depth and then Z doesn't really fit Verbeek's idea of an NHL center: he's average-sized, not defensively responsible, and a loudmouth who gets penalized often, and if you're in the penalty box you can't take your faceoffs because that's actually what centers do. So, to answer your question: ANYONE but Z. McTavish, Henrique, Strome, Carlsson, Gaucher - you name it. I'm in the 'Z is a winger club' (same for Strome). GMPV likes his centers big and meaty, tough to knock off the puck, defensively responsible and generally be a solid all-round player. McT is it. Carlsson looks to be it. Henrique has experience #1C for us. Gaucher is a bit of a fighter and a prick but can be a 3d-line C. So are they the best choice? No, of course not, they're no Crosby or Bergeron. But is Zegras worth pidgeonholing into the position based on his raw (not polished, just raw) offensive talent? Absolutely not. Then we return to the sad reality that we are 'still a few years away' - why would we then want to pay top dollar to a player who is not yet a slam dunk top-line producer like Getz and Perry were when they got their 8's for any amount of time? We'd be wasting prime contract status on development years instead of playoff years, it makes no sense to throw away money like that. A bridge deal for 3 years below Terry's AAV makes complete sense, everyone got things to prove. For the Ducks, Z must show he can be more than just a flash in the pan scorer and distributor, he must show he can be valuable in all situations on line 1 or 2 in a playoff setting, he's 100% not shown this so far. For Zegars, the management must show improvement in coaching, systems and overall team strategy that would make them a perennial contender, he'll get paid anyway, but winning matters a lot, especially to people with an ego as big as Z's. If he doesn't like being pushed out to wing or we don't start being regular playoff visitors - he can Tkachuck his way all the way down to Long Island he wants, then it's just Verbeek's job to get a solid package in return. Give him 3x$6.5 and get him to camp already...but maybe Verbeek is waiting for his camp to condescend to something closer to $5. He's not signed to the Ducks. Makes sense. As a negotiation tactic it's a nothingburger. Beek, Brisson and Z himself know it.
  9. Zegras is not a #1C on any proper cup contender. If you believe he is at his current stage of development you are being delusional. Zegras is a 1st-line winger at best at the moment, and Verbeek's camp is trying to bridge him as such.
  10. It's actually bad to have this going, but if one could think of a silver lining, it will give Cronin the opportunity to establish his regime without the magnifying glass scrutiny and be comfortable with what he does early on. The team will have more freedom to gel without unnecessary rumors flying around.
  11. Fan sentiment means little when $$$ is involved. Players have egoes, GM's have plans, if Z's ask doesn't meet Beek's plans for the team and Z's place in it, we get what we have right now.
  12. I was looking for some Zegras scoop, but nobody cares about Anahem, so here's a very Babcock thing, as quoted by Jarmo Kakelainen: https://nhlrumors.com/nhl-news-columbus-blue-jackets-st-louis-blues-minnesota-wild-and-the-anaheim-ducks/2023/09/19/ Never change, Mike 😃 I guess when he started out with the Ducks a mobile phone was just a plastic phonebook with a ringtone and the 'Snake' game pre-installed, but then he couldn't adapt in the smartphone age... "Hey Jarmo, care to hand me your phone so I check out your wife's nudes?" - "Sure thing Mike, knock yourself out". I'm glad we're not Columbus. What was Gaudreau thinking...
  13. If the rumor is true, the Drysdale thing is way more befuddling than the Z disconnect. JD knows he's in a bad spot and the only way out is to PLAY, and play a lot.
  14. A 'Happy Bus' of rookies going back to Anaheim for training camp on the heels of a 4-2 win today and a 2-1 overall tournament. I'm a happy fan for seeing Carlsson and Sidorov's first goals against the arch-nemesis LA trash. 3 Stars by the illustrious homer Emerson Etem: None, they skipped it. Now, as a happy fan, two more things I'd like to see: a Zegras and a Drysdale contract today or tomorrow. Get'em done.
  15. RODWIN DIONICIO (SUCH NAME, MUCH SWAG) scores on the rush from the left and we are up 4-1!
