Seems like a good hockey trade. The 50% retention seems justified as the Ducks get a 2nd rd pick and also a much younger dman who has size, some experience playing big games on gold metal team and is rated pretty good for a young player. GM also considered personal fit too as he played with Z perhaps. Anyhow, win win trade here for both teams. AVS are looking for NOW so they get maturity and experience and someone who can hit and play hard. Manson may potentially be the small piece to push them over the top.
Kudos to the new GM in actually making a good trade that involved a bit of negotiation and moving pieces to improve the team.
Bob either would have never traded Manson or would get back an over the hill past his prime star player (or spare parts) thinking in the short term and also thinking that the team is close to playoff contention. Never thought he was a good consistent trader. Seemed like he got fleeced more often than not.
