  1. I think Fantilli will be the better player at the end of the day but Carlsson doesn't strike me as someone who might unfold into a Nolan Patrick type of disaster for us. We're still adding a massive piece towards a position of desperate need. The guy is 18, more than held his own against full grown men in one of the world's strongest leagues, and already has the profile of a player every top tier team needs to be successful in the NHL. He also seems really happy to be going to Southern California. I was upset in the moment but I'm so ready to see what he can do for this club.
  2. I was so excited to watch this when the trailer came out but I thought it was a little disappointing. The first half hour is almost entirely about the movie (which isn't ideal but fine, it's a doc about how the movie birthed a hockey club). From there they kind of just speed through the gongshow history of the actual team to showcase that 2003 run while simultaneously skipping out on so many of the details that made 2003 so special. The dynamic duo teams are hardly mentioned, the late 90s runs where they eventually got swept by Detroit each time are completely ignored, Teemu's departure and the team's fall to the bottom just sort of happens, the team's unexpected return to semi-relevance also just happens, not enough weight is given to how wild of an upset defeating Detroit AND Dallas was, no mention at all of holding Minnesota to a single goal in an entire freaking conference final series.. ehh It is pretty neat for what it is though, I probably shouldn't complain since this type of Ducks content is always equal parts fascinating and rare. This really needed an extra 30-45 minutes to be fleshed out fully. The producers should have pushed for this to be a 30 for 30 documentary instead.
  3. It's crazy how this organization just refuses to bring back the original uniforms in any capacity even though virtually everybody is begging for it at this point. The new sweater itself isn't bad, I actually really like how those traditional style horizontal lines work in eggplant and jade. That giant roundel of a logo is pretty garish though, just put the normal duck mask & crossed sticks logo there and you've got a winner you could wear far beyond our 30th year festivities.
  4. At least he didn't thank Nashville or congratulate Vegas, right? Little victories
  5. Ducks brass and unexpectedly picking Swedes in the lottery, the vintage duo is back
  6. Never let Nashville host anything ever. Get on with it already.
  7. Passing on Fantilli would be like a basketball player passing out of a wide open layup so his teammate can attempt an open midrange shot. Please don't.
  8. They cut back to Sportsnet talking about how we missed out on Crosby just to add insult to injury wow
  9. All I smell is fish what the hell how did Columbus just fall
  10. Watch Edmonton still find a way to win this lottery
  11. Oh hey wow, this forum has been broken on all of my (incredibly outdated) devices since the season began and the reply box would refuse to open every time I would visit but it's actually letting me type right now! Actual words!! Not sure if that's a good omen for today but I'll take what I can get after how comically awful the last bunch of years have been for us. I haven't been this nervous about hockey in May since that time Pronger was getting suspended every other week. That seemed to end real well though, hoping this does too.
  12. There's a Finnish version of NHL 07 for PSP with Selanne as the cover athlete. I know this because that was the only video game I played for a solid chunk of my teens and I remember wasting an entire ink cartridge printing out the Finnish cover to replace the original one. These games are mostly digital copies now so even the most petty of Red Wing fans are stuck with Nurse and Zegras on the cover. I was already ecstatic about this but the hate it's getting makes me love it even more. Who needs the Calder when one of the league's biggest partners wants to promote you as the face of hockey?
  13. That rookie number graduation thing the organization does has to go now that BM is out. It was a little neat at first when guys like Getzlaf, Perry and, Kunitz were getting new sweaters but recently we've seen guys like Lindholm, Rakell, and Vatanen amongst others just stick with whatever unattractive rookie number they were assigned throughout their entire duration in Anaheim. The team would probably benefit from increased jersey sales if they removed that uncertainty over a young star potentially changing his number in a year or two. All this to say Zegras should've been wearing #13 from the start lol.
  14. Remember when Shattenkirk led all defencemen in scoring for a moment at the start of the season? Man, I would've loved to have Klingberg on the team back in the Lauerplay era. Still a terrific pickup now though.
  15. LA is putting up a Dustin Brown statue and I can't imagine it without picturing how it might collapse at the slightest breeze and take out the knees of their Magic Johnson statue on its way down
  16. The biggest knock around here on Fowler is his toughness but it's easy to forget how much abuse he's taken on his way to carving out a solid career. He was victim to two of the nastiest hits from behind I've ever seen, the first just a couple of games into his NHL career after he had Shame Doan looking foolish, and the second when Jarret Stoll basically Claude Lemieux'd his face into the dasher. If either of those things happened to any of us posting here, we'd be out of commission for at least a year. He might not be Chris Pronger out there but the guy certainly isn't soft.
  17. If Daniel Alfredsson and the Sedin twins can make it in this year, there's no way in hell Perry doesn't when he's eligible. It might be a little tougher for Getzlaf cause he lacks the individual hardware Perry has but again, if they can put Daniel Alfredsson in for a Calder trophy, a 1000+ game career at a near point per game, and an Olympic gold, they can 100% put Getzlaf in too.
  18. The 2003 Canada WJ team is also being investigated now for similar reasons after another round of horrific allegations.
  19. Imagine the salt if Tkachuk leaves Canada to become a Duck. I don't think we have the assets to pull it off but it would be hilarious to end up with next-gen Corey Perry just a few seasons after cutting ties with actual Corey Perry.
  20. One 30 goal season playing beside Kaprizov doesn't make him a proven sniper. I'll take my chances with the 10th overall pick when I'm a new GM overseeing a rebuilding team over a guy who likely isn't going to produce those numbers again in Los Angeles. Fun and slightly slanderous fact, Vatrano basically matched Fiala's entire playoff point total over his career in a single run with the Rangers this spring. Not saying he's a better player at all but if I'm giving up the team's top pick at this point in a rebuild, I'd want someone who moves the needle more.
  21. You know things were bad when signing Vatrano is still more than GMBM did over the last two offseasons combined lol
  22. Imagine being told back in 2019 that Guhle and Steel wouldn't even be given qualifying offers in a few years. I was really high on both of them, now I'm just excited to see who gets Steel's minutes. I'm kinda surprised Milano didn't get extended though. Those Jheri curls will be missed.
  23. Agree to disagree. I've said my piece here before, the 20/21 Ducks were a total affront to hockey. Bonehead Murray brought back the exact same roster and set them up to be out of playoff contention by the start of December. Instead of tanking, they held a top 3 spot until that two week break in February derailed the season. The Ducks had no business being anywhere near that good for that long and Zegras was a huge part of their success. The fact that he re-energized a historically bad offence and that unwatchable mess of a team to the degree he did puts him over Seider for me. Not to mention his 20 goals, 60 points, how he generated more publicity for the sport as a rookie than a number of established superstars, and how his creativity and confidence had him pulling off things this league has never seen.. I don't want to slander Seider to prop up Zegras but give me all that over a steady rookie d-man who got Fowler'd with no help and successfully held his own. I know I'm pushing narratives but judging by the amount of Yzerman content floating around these days, Seider definitely benefitted from one too. Call me out for being biased two ways if you will (screw the Red Wings always and forever), to me they dropped the ball here.
  24. I'd rather see him do it against the Red Wings.. y'know, to really drive home the criticism that he only shows up to humiliate bad teams and terrible defences with his tricks. Awful decision but I'm not even shocked given the way the modern NHL overvalues a scoring defenceman.
