Bally Sports Heading Towards Bankru

Recommended Posts

Yikes.  That's not good.  I wasn't aware of the subscription option.  I use my parents' DirecTV login to get the games.  $20 a month seems fairly steep, though.  It's not like there's a ton of content other than live sports, and the Ducks certainly aren't worth $20 a month this season.

lol.  i wondered why Fox Sports exited.  they probably reaped the profits and sold off the rights to get out from under some contractual debt (assumed by Bally's, which always sounded like an extinction vehicle to me), and now they'll buy back the rights at a huge discount, thereby maximizing profits until the next rights negotiation.

i call major shenanigans.

IF I was the Ducks or NHL I would look to some platforms to promote the Sport. I wonder IF Youtube is Plan B?.

NHL on YouTube actually is a great idea. Some great NHL vloggers including yourself, Moose, TheHockeyGuy and that Toronto Dangle guy are already there. I bet Bettman is too greedy and won't agree to Google's terms, though.

Anaheim Ducks should pressure Gary along with other teams from NHL,AHL heck even euros should speak up and talk about the benefits of Partnership they can have.

Yeah the way it currently is, NHL is sold exclusively to US sports networks and euros can only view them if the said network in turn has an agreement with some EU cable. That applies all the weird blackouts and "blank silent screen" when the US ads are shown, because there's no sense to pay to show an ad for a product that nobody can buy because the viewere is, say, in Ireland.

Conversely, YouTube is already a well-oiled (unlike that team from Edmonton) global ad-machine with ads tailored into their videos based by the viewer's IP range, but the problem here is it all belongs to Alphabet (Google) and it would be a whole lot of backside pain to negotiate the deals between the NHL-related companies who are already set with TV and 'The Google'. Buttman for sure would explore options like Amazon Prime and whatnot first, because reasons.

It's never easy for us 'hokey' fans, is it?

Fox had to sell out of the sports nets. After Disney purchased them then they were told they couldnt have the regional sports nets and ESPN. It was one or the other. Fox wont be buying them back.

Basically the Ducks and Angels should join together and start their own sports network, kind of like what the Dodgers did. They can have better graphics then bally uses and drop all the gambling stuff. I much prefer the Fox graphics to the ugly Bally ones taking up the bottom of the screen.

You have an issue paying for Centre Ice to get Ducks games? I guess they could lift the blackout you are referring to, eliminate Centre Ice and then how do you watch. No Canadian cable company carries Bally Sports and never will.

Yes blackouts. I live in Tennessee near the North Carolina border and I get Center Ice. Every time Anaheim plays Nashville I am forced to watch the Nashville feed because the Anaheim feed is blacked out.

Game should be no1 Priority for the NHL and our Ducks...Money or Not....Importance is to Grow the game at the Grassroots level from Orange County CA to the East Coast Canada...PERIOD. Invest more Money can help the League and Improve the game and Fan Experince.

Maybe if Bally didn't spend the money to revitalize Fox Trax for powerplays and overtime then they would have more money where they needed it. On the plus side, if the go bankrupt and we get a new provider, they can turf the Fox Trax project. That thing makes it harder to follow the puck then it was without it.
