Of course the first time in years that we have a top-6 pick had to be the weakest draft in forever.

Yeah That Draft was something was hoping they Select a Goalie in First Round.

There was a reporter on the radio this morning who said that the NBA is talking about going right to the postseason assuming this situation settles down by the end of April.  He said there is probably zero chance they resume the season as it stood.  It wouldn't surprise me if the NHL does likewise.

If it does so be it...Right now Concern is th endure this pandemic.....Hopefully it settles down at the end of March but the true fact is who knows.

Well, I think this goes here, rather than the NHL thread, cause we're going to have player specific stuff going on.

In any event, Kes has made a statement:

NHL needs to take in consideration what needs to be done....They should know their are arena workers who contribute to success of the sport of Hockey,Fans too as well as others. In these Trying times Sports can offer abit of solace for those in need and motivate others in times of personal crisis.

  6. Niedermayer/Pronger Duo via Free Agency?...It's going to take alot for Ducks to get that impact Duo again.....Getting Pronger was Blessing and having Scott Niedermayer was Blessing as well. True Question is why our Ducks Overpay?.

We're around game 68 or 69 here.   Players are going to be worn down by the season.   lack of effort could simply be tired.  If the coach isn't making a big thing about it at that practice, I would not worry about it.

The effort I've seen since the trade deadline is much greater than before it. Almost all the games have been really fun to watch and the compete level has been high.

It was almost someone revived our Ducks with Bolt of Lighting....Like you said it's fun to watch them play and Compete Level is High and their Motivation is there.

It makes me so sick and sad to see this once perennial playoff team in a rebuild, but it had to be done. Being in the playoffs wasn’t good enough. We need to build a winning roster yadda yadda.

anyhoo... how high of a draft pick does it look like we’re gonna have? Again, it makes me too sick to check the standings where we are.

I guess this is a two parter: what pieces are we missing to get us back into contention? And..... go:

First off we are missing strong Top 2 D-man...2nd we are musing some reliable depending secondary scoring. Also I want to add it would do us no good in getting a Higher Draft Pick. Rather have Ducks win remaining 16 Games then throw this season away.

Yeah, It's the most boring time of the hockey season. I guess the Ducks tried to sign RHD Chase Priskie (this year's prized college FA) but he signed with Carolina. We can speculate more about a RHD trade with them as a result if we want lol. Nothing really left but to wait and see when the big name RFA's start signing.

Guess Ducks are going back to "Develope within" strategy...They are hoping the Prospects will step up this year.

Agreed with most that's already been said. He'll probably prefer staying on the east coast and if he does consider coming out West it'll take a bit of an overpayment. I'm not against taking a chance at overpaying him for one year. If it doesn't work out, he walks at the deadline or next year. If it does work out, it probably wasn't an overpayment and maybe he wants to stay. But please BM no 3 year contract with a NMC.

Believing all the rumors Ristolainen is available. But I don't think we want to part with the pieces buffalo would want.
Shattenkirk is available but as stated above it's a longshot.
Over on HF boards I read Chase Priskie, some caps prospect, won't sign and will become a UFA august 15. He's RHD who probably wants an opportunity. We can offer him that . I'm not a fan of schultzlike behavior but if it can get us a promising RHD why not?

IMO BM should push for one of the abovementioned 3.

He should roll the dice...a Bob's Ducks GM Predecessor did that...and it paid off well IF I remeber correctly.

I've had three.  I know how it goes.  Shattenkirk signed with New York very specifically because he wanted to be in New York.  He's going to have to make the choice to either be away from his wife and baby for most of the year, or move them to the opposite coast from their home and family (grandparents, siblings, etc.).  That's not an easy choice.  I'm sure he'll do what needs to be done for the sake of his career, but if he's got options, a team farther east is almost certainly going to get priority.

Shattenkirk will not sign with the Ducks....Family Comes first I understand it well when it comes to local Players.

You said it above - he just had his first kid a month ago.  He'd either have to uproot his family or spend half the season across the country from them.  And he's from New York, so he most likely has relatives there who want to be around him and his family.  I have no idea who his wife is, but it's not far-fetched to assume she might be from the area as well.  I think the Ducks have as a good a shot as any other Pacific Division team, and probably a lot of the Central teams as well.  But I have to think it would be easier on the family to either stay in the area or at least be on the East Coast.

We can hand-wave the distance thing away all we want, but he clearly wanted to be in New York. People like being around family. I have to think that teams out east have an advantage when it comes to signing him.  He might not consider West Coast teams at all unless he's got no other offers.

Well if Ducks Don't get Shattenkirk there is Faulk.

Ducks are not attractive destination anymore for free agents. The roster must be competitive and the ownership must be committed to winning in order to attract UFA.

They are doing that with the Youth in their Ranks....It's going to be interesting season.
