  1. There's a lot of doom and gloom here about the defense but I really don't think they have been all that bad. They have looked leaps and bounds better than last season (although that wouldn't be hard).

Guhle looks like a stud in the making. Manson/Lindholm have been inconsistent at times but I think they've both been a lot more responsible in the defensive zone than they were last year. Fowler is Fowler, he does some great things with the puck but for every 3 or 4 good moves he throws in a boneheaded play. Del Zotto is good for a 6th guy.

I know there's a worry about the kids growing in a losing environment but I also don't think it would be smart to make a trade for a defenseman now when this team really isn't a contender - they're a borderline playoff team at best and adding another defenseman isn't going to significantly change that.

So there are rumors circulating that Dustin Byfuglien has taken his personal leave of absence from the Jets due to a falling out he had with his teammates, Blake Wheeler (captain) in particular. Makes you wonder if there is a trade demand there and Byfuglien is just waiting it out until he is traded. If so, why not Anaheim?? He's 34 and is due $14M over this season and next, so that's a bit expensive for an older guy. But if there was ever an old and expensive guy I'd want to take a chance on, it's Byfuglien. He would immediately improve our PP by 150% and he would be pretty much the ideal RHD to slide into the #4 spot next to Fowler. If there's really a trade demand there, and with him not reporting to camp at all, you'd have to think the price tag would not be that expensive either. He's also got three kids under 10 and SoCal could conceivably be high on his list of places he'd like to raise his kids. Lastly, his contract expires before the expansion draft, so he would not need ED protection.

    Any other takers besides me?

If this is the reason then count me in. If he has just lost his love for the game then that would worry me, as I would think his head wouldn't be in it even if he decided to play. Although Ryan O'Reilly said he lost his love for the game in Buffalo and a change of scenery worked out well for him.

No, at least because of the injury, but if there actually is some issue wither Wheeler, I don't expect that mindset (intra-team politics) to magically change with venue.  So, nope.

I don't think there has been talk of Buff not getting on with teammates in the past, so it could be because of some specific incident that occurred in Winnipeg. It doesn't mean there would be issues on a new team.

Ugh....bringing up Vermette for SLASHING a ref...you mean his light tap that didn't mean anything????

But anyway, back to topic at hand. Yes he absolutely should be. At first when I watched it it looked he may have thought that was Knights player...but then reading his comments made me just hate him more and he was trying to justify pushing the ref 'cause hte ref "attacked him"....made me realize he did it intentionally and 100% should be suspended.

From what I can tell the ref got accidentally slashed, sure (and also much more dangerous of a slash than Vermette's love tap), but the ref didn't take a bunch of strides to tackle Kane. He was keeping him from the other player and then Kane lost his balance and took the ref with him. That's a category II, no question.

What upsets me the most is that he will get the category 2 suspension and will think he doesn't deserve it. Classless player.

There seem to be a lot of ref haters online trying to justify this, saying he was just trying to get back to the bench or back into the play or whatever. To me Kane was CLEARLY trying to get back to the guy that he was just tangled up with. The linesman is trying to prevent that, and considering the entire game was a gong show I don't blame him. Kane is classless.

Retiring would be a the best option for Ryan Kesler and for the Ducks. Kesler would not risk to aggravate his hip injury that could affect him for the rest of his life, and the Ducks would shed almost $7 mil from their salary cap.

I assume you mean he 'retires' but goes on LTIR. Because if he actually retires he would forfeit the money from his contract. Which will never happen.

He reached his milestone of 1000 games so maybe he doesn't have to prove anything anymore. I suppose the only thing left for him to do in his career is win a Cup but he has to weigh his condition vs the quality of life in the off season. If he's feeling fine that's great. This team needs him along with Perry because they bring that sandpaper.

He might be hoping the Ducks buy out his contract so he can sign with a team like Washington or San Jose for league minimum and take one last stab at a Cup.

The article does seem to indicate that 1000 games was the goal and this has been reached now, perhaps he feels he is done. Frees up enough space for BM to go after Karlsson? Lol. Probably more like a 36 year old Jason Spezza.

He's still put out there quite a bit for defensive situations.

He's been creating a little more offensively lately, and has started getting back in front of the goalie, but now that he's improved a little there he's snake-bit like everyone else, as are his linemates.

I actually think Kesler has been somewhat unlucky with his scoring because it's not as though he's generating absolutely nothing....he's obviously less effective than before the injury but I feel like he should have more than 6 points. But I could say the same about half of the team. The Henrique/Kase/Ritchie line seems to generate 3-4 grade A chances every game but barely converts any of them.

  7. A lot can happen over the course of a few years. He'll need to score 50 goals for the next 8 seasons. Don't know whether he can keep up the same level of play for that long. The way he plays he asks a lot from his body.

This. 50 goals a season for the next 8 years? Do-able but unlikely. There will be an inevitable slow down due to age, injuries etc.
