  1. Can y'all believe it? I started this thread a little over 10 years ago, and Ovechkin's now less than 50 goals away from breaking Gretzky's record! Might have seemed a little unbelievable to some 10 years ago but looking forward to history being made. Only 47 goals away! Let's just hope goal 47 isn't an empty netter. Lol. Hopefully he'll break the record next year. We shall see...

  2. I don't know about y'all, but I'm pumped about the New-And Improved Ducks! For the first time, in a long time, I think we have a very balanced team. Great chemistry with all of our lines, and promising defense pairings. We just keep finding ways to win, lately, and really hoping we make the playoffs this season. Y'all liking the direction of the team? Obviously, it's tough not to, when we're winning. I know some had some doubts about the GM and coach. But I think the direction we're going is great. Not to mention, the Ducks were ranked #1 in NHL pipeline rankings for 2023, and so we'll be good for a while. Exciting times for Ducks fans! Have a great rest of the week, all. Peace.

  3. I wouldn't mind seeing the Ducks sign Blake Wheeler. He's 6'5", 220 pounds, and was the Jet's captain from 2016-22.  He also had 55 points this past season, in only 72 games, including 16 goals. So, he's still productive. I think we can use a power forward like him, with all the youngster's on the team, especially if we want to compete with heavier teams like Vegas. And who knows-Ducks might consider making him captain a few seasons. I'm guessing Selanne, a former Jet, would love the signing.

Another player I think we can use is Max Domi. I know others have mentioned him before too. Now if we can add both Wheeler AND Domi, that would help our team tremendously, IMO.

Strawman.  They were the least physical team in the league last season, and it was a large part of why they were dead last.

Hockey is NOT a skills competition.  You have to have skill, you have to be able to skate well.  You also MUST be able to physically compete, and, if you want success, win the majority of those physical battles.

Part of the benefit of being bigger, taller, having more weight is that you can absorb those hits, instead of avoiding them.  Especially in the playoffs.  It's not just about hitting the other team, it's being able to take those hits, fend them off with your size and/or reach, maintain puck possession, and make a play.

It's also about being able to use physical play/size to dispossess guys of the puck, kill plays entering the zone, tie up or move guys from in front of the net, win those battles.

You've heard the phrase "they are playing at the end of their sticks", right?  That means you're skating around trying to poke check and stick lift everybody, and you cannot play that way in the NHL.

Knowing all that, do you think the Ducks will be better off in the long run, and in the playoffs, that they will likely be drafting Adam Fantilli and won't get the opportunity to draft Connor Bedard?

  6. I hear what y'all saying. I just don't know too many head coach candidates who've won 2 Stanley Cups, the latest in the last 9 years, and won a Jack Adam's award in the past few years. But wouldn't surprise me if Ducks hire somebody else. Guessing y'all are right, that Ducks won't hire Sutter. We shall see.

Yes.  Do you know that his players hated him so much, they got him fired a year later despite that award?

That's true. But it could be the culture we live in today where some people don't want accountability. The teams that have the most success have accountability, whether the players like it or not. It's kind of like when some players leave the Patriots in the NFL and complain how strict of a coach Belichick was, but who never have the same success on any other team they play for again. Life shouldn't be a party for those in the NHL. Just my opinion. Thanks for sharing yours.

  8. Howdy, Ducks fans. Been a little while since I last posted here. Hope all has been well with you all. Anyways, how would you all feel about Ducks hiring Darryl Sutter as it's next head coach? I know some might say his coaching is too old school. But Flames won 50 games last year with him as their head coach (1st in Pacific Division.) And I was always a fan with how well coached the Kings were when Sutter was their head coach. He obviously helped them win Cups in 2012 and 2014. I think the Ducks should at least consider hiring him. I know he previously was an advisor to the Duck's coaching staff. At the very least, Ducks players would work hard every shift, finish every check, and probably make the playoffs. Anybody else want to see him considered? We shall see if he is.

He's proven to still be an effective goal scorer. Even if he slows down over the next few years he could get there like this:

    2021-2022: 40 goals

    2022-2023: 40 goals

    2023-2024: 30 goals

    2024-2025: 30 goals

    2025-2026: 25 goals

Obviously that means he would still need to score at a near-elite level for another couple of seasons. Also he would have to stay healthy which is tougher to do the older you get.

He won't get to 1000 though, that's a bridge too far I think. He would have probably gotten there were it not for the multiple lockouts and shortened season during his career.

Definitely think he can have at least a few more seasons with at least 40 goals. Should be fun to see how it all plays out. Just hope he doesn't decide to randomly retire in a couple years and move back to Russia, before breaking the record.

  10. Update: Alex Ovechkin now has 730 goals! Even in the shortened season, he was just able to score 24 goals in 45 games! Keeps his chances of breaking Gretzky's record alive! Gretzky scored 894 goals in his career, and so Ovechkin is only 165 goals away from breaking the record. And he will only be 36 years old this upcoming season. Want to hear something crazy? He can break the record at 40 years old by simply scoring 33 goals the next 5 seasons! And I see no reason why he won't have at least another season or two with at least 50 goals. No reason he can't be the first player to 900 goals! I think it's actually more realistic than not now that he breaks the record. After all, who doubts he will score at least 33 goals the next 5 seasons? And if he wanted to, he could retire at 40 with the goal scoring record. But let's just say he breaks the record at 40 years old, and at 41 knows all he has to do is have 3 more seasons with at least 33 goals and he can get to 1,000 goals! (Assuming he's already at 900 goals by 41 years old.) In that case, we might see him play until at least 43 and get to 1,000 goals! Will be fun to see how it all turns out. By the way, hope you all have been well! It's been a while since I've made a comment or post on these boards. Lol. Have a good one, all. Peace.

  11. Hello, my fellow Anaheim Ducks Patriots! It's been a while. Last year was pretty crazy, huh? Lol. Anyways, anybody know what the lineups are going to be for tomorrow's game? Or what they have been in practice? Any lineups you want to see? How long until Zegras gets the call up, in your opinion? Hopefully he does what Getzlaf and Perry did when in the AHL, and takes that league by storm. Tomorrow should be a great game. Can't wait. Let's go Ducks! 😎

I just have a feeling that Corey Perry is about to have a resurgence. And a lot of Ducks fans will wish he were back on our team. Yes, sometimes a player needs a change of scenery to get that extra bit of motivation for a resurgence. I just think we are really going to miss Perry's gritty, hard-nosed style of play. Terry has never had a 20-goal season. Neither has Steel. Or Comtois. I am really looking forward to seeing all of our young guns develop. However, Perry has proven what he can do. He's just been injured the past few seasons. He had been dealing with a knee injury since Juniors. Finally got the surgery to fix that. Would have been neat to see what a healthy Corey Perry could do with a full training camp and summer worth of training. If Perry could look as fast as he did in some games coming back late in the season, imagine how great he might play with a full summer to work.

By the way, to answer your question, I wouldn't even mind if we kept Perry on the 4th line. The Detroit Red Wings for years had very good talent on their 4th line. Like Mike Modano. The thing with Perry is that he can produce and be productive no matter what line he is on. I think Ducks fans are about to witness a Corey Perry resurgence. He has all the motivation in the world to prove he can be great. Remember what he said when he came back late in the season? Teemu Selanne was inspiration for him. with how he came back from the knee injury. How he ended up playing 10 more years. And how he hopes that can be him. Wouldn't surprise me if, at 34, his hope comes true. We shall see.

Ok. So which young stud player would you be willing to burying at the 3-4 lines and possibly lose with the Seattle draft at the expense of keeping Perry?

    Nick Ritchie.

  14. I don't agree with this decision. Corey Perry looked faster than he had in years when he returned from injury. With a full season, he might be back to his scoring ways. If Patrick Maroon can win a Stanley Cup with the Blues--and Maroon certainly is not faster nor more skilled than Perry--than some team certainly will be able to get a productive season out of Perry. Just imagine if he goes to the Blackhawks and gets to play on a line with Kane. Or if he goes to the Oilers and ends up on a line with McDavid. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Perry score at least 30 goals next season and win a Cup elsewhere. Hopefully it's our team though hoisting a Cup next season. I appreciate all Perry did for our team, and wish him nothing but the best wherever he signs next.
