Perry is probably scoring more BECAUSE he's playing less.  He's being sheltered and gets to concentrate more energy on each shift.  He'd probably be less effective getting second line minutes against better defenders.  Kudos to Montreal for maximizing his usage.

16 points in 31 games and +8 so far.  Only 2 Ducks, Comtois and Rakell, have more points per game this season (4 games minimum).  Granted he probably wouldn't be as productive if he were still on the Ducks, but he's certainly not "washed up," as many Ducks fans seem to think.

We are still paying him $6,625,000 this season for his lack of passion just to get him off this team. Lazy guy in his later career and still getting top star $  He should be embarrassed.  He turned into a real slacker.

That's totally false.  Although Perry's goal scoring fell off dramatically, he was still put up a good number of assists until his last season with the Ducks when he was out most of the year with a knee injury.  And he still went to the front of the net consistently and helped the Ducks score goals by screening the opposing goalie.  No question he wasn't producing to the level of his contract, but that could be said for a lot of Ducks right now.

I was against the buyout 2 years ago, primarily because the cap space it bought this season and last season meant absolutely nothing given the abysmal state of the team.  Now the Ducks will still have to carry something in the $2-3 million/year for the next 2 years when their cap hit would be over after this season if they hadn't bought him out.

  3. I would love to see Getzlaf traded to Montreal and then win a Cup with Perry again.  Then resign with the Ducks in the offseason.  From the video that was posted, it's clear he cares about the future of the Ducks.  So I think being traded to a Cup contender, especially if it's to play with his long time friend and linemate, to get a return in the form of picks and/or prospects that would help the team in the future, would be appealing to him.  We will know by sometime tomorrow.

Calling for a coach to get fired when he has clearly not improved his caliber of coaching is perfectly acceptable. Eakin was a lazy pick by Murray. Add in that Eakin threw the team under the bus after  five game, and his terrible  in-game coaching decisions and yeah.. the guy needs to go. Fans understand  what a rebuild is but that doesn't mean blindly accepting a team that has gone 2-6-2 in it's last ten and has a .386 winning percentage. The only lead lining you can gleam from this situation is that nobody is actually paying for tickets to watch this team thanks to covid.

I'm soooo thankful that fans aren't allowed in Anaheim this season.  I try to make sure my season seats don't go to waste and many of these games would be exceptionally painful to watch in person.

If anyone has a connection to the coaching staff, can you please let them know that Heinan had 16G / 31A playing on a 3rd line with Backes in Boston during his rookie year? Maybe I blinked, but I haven't seen them take a single shift together this season. Do you think HCDE even knows they were teammates in Boston?

    https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/02/14/could-a-more-permanent-line-help-danton-heinens-production/

I know Backes is older now, but c'mon! At least try it rather than scratching both in favor of Deslauriers-Grant-Lettieri...

I like your idea and I don't understand why Heinen has been scratched for 4 consecutive games.  There are only 4 other Ducks forwards who have more points per game and he is hardly a defensive liability with a -2 on an awful team.  I could possibly see him sitting for 4 straight games when the Ducks had a ton of forward talent 6 years ago, but with this roster???   Give the poor guy a break and let him play!

  6. I'm relieved that Henrique cleared waivers, but am still angry at BM for risking losing an asset for nothing when he could have traded him at the deadline last year for a good haul.

Overall I'm angry at BM for not trading away ANY mid-career players for picks, prospects or other young talent since it became obvious that the Ducks were in rebuilding mode over 2 years ago.   He traded Montour for a 1st rounder 2 years ago and Kase for a 1st rounder, Ritchie for Heinen, Sprong for Djoos last year.  While the Kase move likely has paid off, since he is so injury prone, why are Henrique, Silfverberg, Fowler and Manson ALL still on the roster?  I'm not advocating burning down the roster completely, but given the sad state of this team, at least ONE of those guys should have been traded for a significant return by now.

With the Kings winning tonight, the Ducks are equal distance from #2 and #7 (3 points). Only 13 games left.

I noticed that and hate to say that I am actually hoping the Ducks start losing more.  Finishing 2nd from the bottom guarantees a top 5 pick, something the Ducks haven’t had since picking Bobby Ryan at #2 overall in 2005.  It would also give the Ducks a decent shot at getting the #1 pick for the first time ever.

D - I think that's what he meant.  The question is: what is he happy about?  He may be indicating he's happy with the trade bait we have within the D-ranks as they stand now, and not really the overall performance.  The funny thing is that I think he's not too put out with the injuries.  It keeps us below average on team wins and gives him a chance to see the newbs and youngsters play hard games in the stretch.

His multiple-mentioned focus moving forward is shooters.  We have too many play makers (BM stated this, with a chuckle, but with some underlying frustration).  That said, while BM wouldn't name who we are going for in the draft, he said "there's a really good player going early!  He can shoot and play-make and do it all."  After that sort-of LOL moment, BM mentioned that there are also a couple draft forwards/prospects who can shoot more than play-make, and that there are a good 7-9 D prospects who seem to be good shooters - offensively minded D.  There's a... small chance he's playing coy with a possible trade up to #1 once the lottery happens (just a hint of a feeling on my part).

Neids/Pronger comment - this was in the context of looking for free agents, but it was solely a hand-wavy example of what the organization has done in the past, not what he is specifically looking for.  Basically, he was saying that the organization has searched out and acquired top end talent before now, in bunches, and they are open to looking for similar opportunities moving forward.  I think the comment led directly into BM making the first larger point that ownership is behind purchasing UFA talent.  The follow up caveats were brief, but maybe unrealistic?  BM doesn't want to give 8 years $10M to a 30 year old (or 7 years to a 29 year old).  He noted that when they signed Getz and Perry for the amounts they did, "we were betting on one of them making through the end of the contracts."  The second larger point seemed to be that the organization is willing to trade talent we have now to get the sweetheart target.  So, yes, assets to get an elite player to accelerate the rebuild, but not announced with the thoughtful logic and vocal/voice-timbre of full commitment I generally expect from a committed BM (purely my interpretation).  I'm tentatively chalking this up as another one of those "we're willing if the sweet deal comes along" sort of throw away statements.

I mean, come on, though.  He can't tell the world he's going to give up the shop for a Mitch Marner and expect to make a good deal.

Oh, i should mention - BM talked briefly about that one time "we thought we'd won the lottery, but it turned out not.  Sidney's a good player."  that comment was part of meandering around the question whether we'd be looking for franchise players in the draft or by UFA/trade.  Hazy made a really good point about how few top 5 picks we've had... i think he said the last top 5 pick was in 2003?  basically, we all agreed that we'd put together a great team without languishing in the bottom for a long time.  Edmonton and another team were mentioned.  Sorry, can't remember the other one.

I know someone has mentioned this before, but BM explicitly noted that he started the rebuild a year late - this was a fairly early comment in the discussion, so almost all (all?) the above was sort of under that umbrella.  Just think about what that means... BM is thinking now that he should have fired RC and brought up Eakins a year earlier, before Cogs was traded, etc.  That's... pretty interesting to consider.  Not that I want to spend endless time on the board reading about what could have been (please guys, let's not go there in any large way), but right now, I feel like waiting the extra year has helped us shed some players we might not have shed otherwise, which has opened up some new prospects that... might have been for the best for a new coach trying to change the team's direction - it was always going to hurt, regardless.  Eakins will never be blamed for losing Cogs, and that's probably a good thing.  Also, BM is shouldering whatever burden he can so that Eakins get a solid, fair chance.  That's a pretty cool/selfless thing to do (even if it's all BM's fault regardless, but you know what I mean).

Someone in the audience thanked BM for doing the talk, especially this year.  The audience member said that not all GM's do this sort of thing.  I'm not sure how true that is, but man, I really enjoy the access we get at least once a year.

Regarding the signing of Niedermayer and the trading for Pronger, BM said he would be willing to make similar moves in the future when he felt the Ducks were a Cup contender again.

He mentioned Edmonton and Pittsburgh as teams that “went to the bottom” for 5+ years to rebuild, something he doesn’t want to do.

He also said that he hopes NR will become a player that works hard on and off the ice consistently.

Other than that I have nothing to add that others, and mostly you have already said.  Unless you were taking notes or recorded the session, you have an incredible memory!

I have a much higher opinion of GMBM after attending the event and feel bad for what I said about him at the TDL.  I also got the chance to meet Hazy, which was something I have wanted to do for a long time.  I saw him play goalie at Cornell when I was a freshman there (a loooong time ago).

No, it's usually about a month before the season ends.

We're strongly considering dropping our seats.  We've been season seat holders since before the 1st preseason game of the inaugural season.  I imagine we're not alone.  It's getting difficult to give away our tickets to clients, and can't even sell them on Stub Hub for more than half the face value.

I haven’t had a problem selling my Section 433 tickets this season.  Last year I also had a pair of tickets in 432 Row A.  I couldn’t sell those after the team hit the skids and fell out of playoff contention, so I didn’t keep them.

I will hold onto my 433 seats.  I’ve been a STH for 4 years and I want to build seniority so I can eventually get even better seats at Select a Seat.  Next year the Ducks aren’t raising ticket prices and are giving a needed 10% discount on food.  It also doesn’t hurt that my new rep is cute.

Yes, he's played a lot of center. But he turns 35 on July 11th. Are the Stars really expecting a 35-year-old Joe Pavelski to center a 2nd line behind Seguin?

Didn’t he score 34 or so goals last year?  And hasn’t Thornton centered the Sharks’ 1st or 2nd lines for several years at 35 and older?

LOL! Perry to Dallas on a cheap 1-year deal is basically trolling Bob Murray as payback for bringing in Garnett and Robidas.

Wonder how Stars fans are going to take this too. Pears has been less popular in Dallas than he has been anywhere else in the league.

If he plays well, I guarantee they will like him.

That's a really good deal for Dallas. They see their window and are swinging for the fences. Good to know that while Dallas is going all-in Murray is choosing to just needlessly throw away draft picks and create an unnecessary logjam on the wing in the process

I knew buying out Perry wasn’t going to free up a roster spot.  And the fact that he traded a draft pick for a LW instead of a RW is irrelevant.  Wingers are interchangeable, as I noted earlier in this thread.  So I ask again, since the Ducks aren’t serious Cup contenders in the next 2 years, what advantage have the Ducks gained by buying out Perry? They will now have an unnecessary cap hit in 21-22 and 22-23.

That's just not true. I really don't care if BM dumpster dives. Heck, he may already have with the pending (rumored) signings of Grant and Holzer. But getting rid of Perry opens up room on RIGHT WING, which right now the Ducks are loaded at. Of course the Perry buyout opened a spot for one of our young RW players.

You can move a RW to LW without a huge impact.  I should have said winger instead of forward, but other than that my statement is entirely true.  And I will be surprised if BM doesn’t sign a winger free agent this off season.

  14. 15 minutes ago, perry_mvp said:

But he also said he wants to surround the young guys with a little more "oomph". Soooo...does that mean dumpster diving in the free agent market?

Probably, given BM’s history.  And if he signs even just one dumpster free agent forward with this cap space he has freed up, getting rid of Perry hasn’t opened up any room for our young players.  I’m glad I only renewed my cheap season tickets for this season and dumped the expensive ones...

  15. From a cap hit perspective, this makes no sense at all.  Perry’s contract is over in 2 years.  It’s highly unlikely the Ducks are going to be Cup contenders in the next 2 years, and now with the buyout the cap hit will extend  2 more years, albeit at a lower amount.

I wish Perry the best.  I thought the chance of him returning to his former form was low, but still hoped he would and score 25+ goals again.  Now the hope is gone.  This is a sad day.
