Firing is not common after the draft, but there are plenty of examples of GMs stepping aside after the draft for a new GM to step up from within the organization to take over. Yzerman-BrisBoise in Tampa. Sherman-Sakic in Colorado. Tallon-Bowman in Chicago. Even our very own Bob Murray took over for Burkie in November 2008.

I think it's not out of the realm of possibility that Bob does the ED, entry draft, and the opening of the UFA period this summer and then moves into a different role so that Madden can take over GM duties. I don't expect him to be fired though. Not ever. He's too entrenched in the executive leadership to be run out of town. Stepping aside is the most fans who want him gone can likely hope for.

I agree with this. He does bring value but not as the GM of the team any longer.

Ducks GM Bob Murray says he spoke with captain Ryan Getzlaf about trading him, but Getzlaf only wanted to move if Anaheim could get something significant in return to help the franchise, "and it wasn't there. He is all about the organization, whatever is best for us."

Just Bobs poor excuse for continuing to be a below than average GM. My bet is that he missed on a couple of good trade opportunities and couldn’t pull it through ... like usual

  3. Best thing in my opinion would be for Getz to be traded. It could be a win win for the team gaining assets and him as well having the opportunity to play for a contender. No point in whittling your last years with a second to last place tram which isn’t going to be good again for another few years.

No way I move Rakell right now. If the plan is to eventually move on from him and not re-sign him, you still HAVE to wait until next year's trade deadline. His value is going to be extremely high next season at the TDL and we could end up with a huge haul, but it's rock bottom right now with the Ducks in big time cap trouble and sucking hard. You also have to expect that Rakell will likely have much better play next year in a contract year, as many guys blow up during their contract years and inflate their value. So if there's ever a time and player to be a little more patient with, I think it's Rakell this season.

Rakell is also one of the only guys generating legit scoring chances. He doesn't have the goal stats yet, but that's only because his shooting percentage is abnormally low (currently 2.9%, career is 11.6%). There's no way it stays that low for the whole season. He's got 34 SOGs though, which is 14 more than the next highest Duck (Heinan at 20) and almost double what Terry (9) and Steel (9) have combined for.

Move Rico is that situation with him stays bad, but don't touch Rakell until you can actually get real value for him = my two cents.

Watch Bob will let Rakell go for freeeee in the expansion draft LOL. Wouldn’t doubt it, he let go a valuable asset last time around 😵

  5. My biggest complaints for years about Bob has been how incredibly slow he is to react. I’ve always thought for many more years that he is a better assistant GM than as a top GM. Yes we have a small market team with not as much money to spend but that does not mean you sit on your hands most trading periods or just go dumpster diving for cheap reclamation projects every single year. His team vision is sub par and he can’t even decide which direction to build the team either. Time to get a new GM it’s long overdue.

    Love this!!

Honestly, I think we may have the best goalie duo in the West...2nd only to Vegas. And at worst, maybe 3rd best. But with that duo in this kind of schedule...if our D can just be...better haha and one or 2 of the young guys take bigger steps forward...we might be a bit better than people would give us credit for.

    I dunno, I get hopeful!!

We’ve had the same duo for a few years already and the results have been ... well you know

Well,  i know a few people moving out of this state.  The politicians and bureaucrats still collect their checks, but they get to tell everyone else who gets to work, who gets to collect their checks. The back breaker is the closing of the schools, when everyone knows the children aren't in danger.  It's just Sacramento bullying working people, and making it harder for them to live their lives.

I had this whole big post, I don't care about it anymore lol so I kept just the last half

Well I'm glad to see you agree with that. Yeah, the media doesn't help much, they tend to enjoy sensationalization and annoying headlines. But they also are literally just reporting what they are hearing/seeing (at times). I think the media as a whole gets a pretty bad rap as people don't seem to understand the difference between an article that is an opinion or an analysis and one that is just reporting what is happening. But the news likes to blur those lines, anyway. Also, I've noticed so often people tend to misunderstand what is being reported.

(it's not letting me do any more quoting lol)

So, I actually do know a few people who have had it very much affect their lives. Friends roommates (though somehow she didn't get it), friends coworkers...friends in Chicago, New York, Costa Mesa, Ohio. Not anyone who had it personally though. Not counting hospital friends who see it more often than probably any of us. Another friend has immediate family in Iran and it's ravaging through her family over there. I believe there's a fallacy for not believing something just 'cause you don't see it/experience it. I can't remember what it's called. It goes both ways though. We clearly are experiencing different perspectives on it.

And I appreciate your ending sentiments and maybe I went too quickly on the attack. I also mean no disrespect. I think it's good for people to keep an open mind and question things. But that can definitely go too far at times I would say.

    🙂

I'm not going to get into an argument, but #'s are being inflated. ANY death that occurs (heart attack, stroke, accident, etc.) and the individual also happens to test positive for covid, it's counted as a covid death. From the CDC, "use information from Covid-19 testing, but also allow for deaths to be listed as "presumed" or "probable" Covid-19 based on symptoms and the best clinical judgement of the person filling out the death certificate."

    Exactly

Or maybe...we don't have the best healthcare system in the world...

Sorry, but doctors aren't doing that. The only doctors that have any political agenda...are the doctors that claim other doctors have a political agenda. I have a lot of friends in the healthcare system from nurses to doctors...so I've been trying to stay up to date from them and hear what's going on...and they've seen those conspiracy theories...and it's just absolutely ludicrous to say that's what is happening.

It's all fun (well, also dumb) and games thinking about the NHL conspiracies against whomever with refs and the draft or whatever...'cause it's harmless. But it's another level when you have millions of people doing their best to keep everyone alive while a brand new virus sweeps the country to say they DON'T have your best interest...not only is it incredibly insulting as they sacrifice their life for others...it can actually lead to direct physical harm and more death.

So, what...you're saying these surge of deaths in our country these past 4 months aren't COVID-19 related...and we're just seeing a surge of respiratory deaths, pneumonia deaths, blood clot related deaths like stroke and heart attack, kidney failure related deaths...and...it's just a coincidence?

I’m a firm believer that the US is one of the top leaders in medicine and healthcare. We have the best doctors and nurses from all over the world here so yes our death count for actual CCP virus related deaths should be lower when compared to other countries.

dont get me wrong. This virus is nasty and is real but to the extent of what the mainstream media says it is?? I don’t think so.

lets ask ourselves, if this thing is so crazy rampant and “surging” everywhere. How many people do you or your friends or their friends know who actually got this? I for one have polled everyone I know and they have asked their friends and so on and not a single person... none. Again, this is not to say that this thing is fake or not happening I’m just saying that when I look at the numbers and compare it to all the people I’ve spoken to which includes folks in Mexico and a couple of other states things don’t add up.

also about people in government sincerely caring about the welfare of its people compared to power grabs, they will ALWAYS choose their own personal agenda. There is no doubt about that in my mind.

what I’m saying here is that we need to look at everything going on around us and question it with our own eyes and our own minds especially when there is TON of misinformation out there intended to keep people in fear. This has always been the tactic of those in power to stay in power.

Also, no disrespect to anyone here, my fellow duck fans just keep an open mind. I know there are lots of intelligent people on these boards....and my hope is that everyone stays safe and healthy.

  11. Good conversations on the CCP virus. My 2 cents: How can the US have hundred of thousands more CCP Virus related deaths in the world when we have one of the best healthcare systems in the world bar none and we are still tripling and doubling up on countries like India and Brazil who have massive populations with India having almost more than China at 1.353 billion??? This tells me that the US States are purposely inflating the numbers. There are actually articles online with doctors even thinking this is the case. I think the hospitals are labeling as many deaths as COVID-19 related when its not the case and making it political while keeping the American people in constant fear. Fear is how the powerful stay in power and the media is all about it as well too since they love to sensationalize everything

Does anyone really trust a system where they don’t show the actual ball selection live?

This has ALWAYS been absurd. Proof it’s rigged. Just a way to boost whatever team they want which will project more money for them

  13. This lottery is soo rigged. After the NHL got Edm all squared away with #1 picks it’s time to look at what other big market teams like LA can benefit from the rigging. So p-I-s-s-e-d

  14. This is planned right on top of existing parking space for Honda Center. They must be building a parking structure as well.

And more residential too eh? Crazy, that whole part of Anaheim is inundated with new residential buildings all around that area. Traffic is going to be INSANE even when there is no Honda Center event.

Incredible! Top notch owners. Now hope fans reciprocate with filling arena even when they are not doing great in the standings and stop complaining saying they will stop buying due to decline in standings

Yeah, I guess it depends on what he wants. Most contending teams don't have the cap space to give him $3-4 mil, so he'd have to take a very cheap contract to go on a team like that. If he wants to go that route then I think that Nashville makes the most sense (adding another RHD after losing Subban). The Ducks are in a position to offer him more money but I don't get the sense that he'd even want to come to Anaheim. My guess is that he'd want stay closer to home on the east coast, especially since he and his wife just had their first kid.

A contending team would be able to get away with a cheap contract for him after being bought out. (See Perry). ANA in the other hand will not be nearly as cheap unless there isn’t a huge market for him.

Shattenkirk bought out so BM should be able to sign him to a cheap 1 year show me contract.

I would imagine he’s seeing the buyout as an opportunity to go with a contender. As we are not contenders he is certainly not going to sign with us for cheap unless we are offering him the most of any other team wanting him. I doubt we get him unless Bob pays him more than 3-4 mill +

Apparently Perry has been talking with Nashville.... 😕 Nashville and Chicago

Wonder if the Ducks could’ve put some clause in the buyout contract that says that if he resigns with any team following his buyout that said team needs to contribute like $1mill (something low and affordable) to help towards his buyout.

  19. People need to stop comparing Perry and Teemu with regard to their knee injuries. They are completely different players. Teemu always was a speed player and so he relied on his knee to accommodate that speed. Perry on the other hand has never been the best skater and not nearly as quick. Perry has always been the grinding type player who just cycled down low and “slowed” the game down with Getz. As such, his knee is not going to make him a better skater nor a faster one. So really I don’t think he will come back and have ANYWHERE close of a resurgence that Teemu did ... not even close. The very wide majority of players only decline as they get to Perry’s age not get better. Sorry but he will never again be a 30 goal scorer. So paying him the amount he was getting to be a 20 goal scorer was insane. I love Perry too but seriously everyone don’t look at this with so much emotion. The younger kids who will take his spot will be better than what he currently brings to the table as far as points goes. This is the young players team now even Getz will eventually wind down. It’s just nature, people age and it’s also business too where spending that much money is better spent somewhere else and not on a 4th liner.

The expansion draft happens June 2021. Perry's contract would have ended in the 20-21 season. This buyout may have a shorter term than say a Kesler buyout but the second year of the Perry buyout has a cap hit of $6.25M according to capgeek while say a Kesler buyout would have roughly have an average $2.3M until it was completed. Roster spot wise, I don't think Perry put a hamper on anything.

On how the buyout affects his (GMBM's) plans for the upcoming years
You can't go jumping into any long-term deal right now. The further issue is, when we get the cap number tomorrow at the [general managers] meetings, we're going to know that stuff and be where we thought it was going to be. A lot of us are going to be scratching our heads as to what we can do. Some teams are in worst shape than we are. One-year deals always work. We're going to try to surround this young group with a little more oomph. We're trying to do that, but I don't know if we can. I'm going to protect them a little bit, and let them grow.

Bob didn't appear to be too worried with that with the Henrique and Fowler deals and to a lesser extent, Silfverberg.

Good point. But Perry would still be taking up a roster space and arguably force a premature trade of one the younger players during that time span

  21. 1 hour ago, duck123 said:

I don't agree with this decision. Corey Perry looked faster than he had in years when he returned from injury. With a full season, he might be back to his scoring ways. If Patrick Maroon can win a Stanley Cup with the Blues--and Maroon certainly is not faster nor more skilled than Perry--than some team certainly will be able to get a productive season out of Perry. Just imagine if he goes to the Blackhawks and gets to play on a line with Kane. Or if he goes to the Oilers and ends up on a line with McDavid. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Perry score at least 30 goals next season and win a Cup elsewhere. Hopefully it's our team though hoisting a Cup next season. I appreciate all Perry did for our team, and wish him nothing but the best wherever he signs next.

Ok. So which young stud player would you be willing to burying at the 3-4 lines and possibly lose with the Seattle draft at the expense of keeping Perry?

  22. I’m good with this. We need space for the young players and he was wayyy to expense to keep on 3rd or 4th. Bob wants to keep his good young players and not lose them because he couldn’t find space for them. This move had to be made.
