I think it was Elliotte Friedman who suggested trying to do a tournament in North America during the two-week break.  But I can't imagine that will happen now that they have 50 games to reschedule.  Not that it would have happened anyway; it's way too short of notice to pull something like that off.

With NHL players no longer eligible for the Olympics, the league is using the two-and-a-half week break built into its schedule for Olympic participation — Feb. 6 - Feb. 22 — to reschedule postponed games. NHL Players Association executive director Don Fehr acknowledged that players are “quite disappointed” not to be participating in the Olympics but also said he understands that “playing a full 82-game season this year, something the pandemic has prevented us from doing since the 2018-19 season, is very important.” “No matter how much we wish it were not the case,” Fehr said in a statement, “we need to utilize the Olympic period to reschedule these games.” “Our focus and goal have been and must remain to responsibly and safely complete the entirety of the NHL regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs in a timely manner, Bettman added.

Lemieux claims Tkachuk hit his tooth. League said he bit his hand hard enough to break the skin.

Anyone see anything about Lauzon today?  Is he going to get supplemental discipline for his hit on Lundestrom?  If he doesn't, that would be a travesty, but would not be surprising given the way the DoPS has treated the Ducks.

I don't believe they even looked at it.

BM is on expiring contract. Why spend time and money on investigation? Fire him due to incompetence and poor job performance, as simple as it is.

The abused deserve better. An investigation will/should prove that they weren’t just accusations but facts.

The fact that this was all aired out publicly by his wife on social media in response to his infidelity kind of makes me think it's exaggerated. Especially since she said something about how he said his friends would kill him if he didn't gamble. I don't know. Still, pretty interesting how the NHL is trying to quickly tackle this situation head-on instead of their usual policy of sweeping things under the rug (see: Chicago's ongoing abuse scandal, Montreal drafting a sex offender, etc.)

It could be a disgruntled wife but looking into is finances won't be hard for the NHL. Since she publicly made the accusations, I hope she has something to back them up. Infidelity isn't a crime but when you have a small child and a pregnant wife, it sure doesn't make him look good.

NHL Opens Investigation Into Evander Kane Gambling Allegations

JULY 31, 2021 AT 5:48 PM CDT | BY GAVIN LEE

Earlier today, allegations were made on social media by Evander Kane’s wife Anna Kane that suggested the San Jose Sharks forward had placed wagers on NHL games he took part in. The claims have not been proven to be true, but the league has opened an investigation into the matter. A statement from the league reads:

The League was made aware this evening of a post on social media alleging that San Jose Sharks Player Evander Kane bet on NHL games. The integrity of our game is paramount and the League takes these allegations very seriously. We intend to conduct a full investigation and will have no further comment at this time.

The Sharks have also released a statement:

The San Jose Sharks have been in contact today with the NHL about the serious allegations made against Evander Kane.  We support a full and transparent investigation into the situation to maintain the integrity of the game and consistency with our team values.

After Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said last week that the team was going to qualify restricted free agents Nick Ritchie and Ondrej Kase, the team surprisingly reversed course on Monday and didn’t tender qualifying offers to restricted free agent wingers. The Bruins signed RFA Nick Wolff to a one-year, two-way contract for an NHL value of $750,000 and tendered qualifying offers to goalie Callum Booth and former first round pick Zach Senyshyn, but both Ritchie and Kase are now essentially free to sign with any other NHL team.

The qualifying offer for Kase would have been $2.6 million, which the oft-injured right winger would have presumably accepted for next season as a larger amount than he’s going to get otherwise. The 25-year-old Kase has been limited to nine games with the Boston Bruins over the last two seasons due to concussion issues, and has posted just five assists, and zero goals, in 20 total games during the regular season and playoffs after being dealt from Anaheim.

“With [Kase] this year, it’s been a lot of wait and see, and that’s what we’re back to again,” said Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy at the start of the playoffs when Kase was basically ruled out from playing after missing the entire season and then suiting up for the final game of the regular season against the Islanders.

It was a $2 million qualifying offer for Ritchie coming off a career-high 15 goals for the 25-year-old power forward in just 56 games last season, but the 6-foot-2, 230-pound Ritchie had arbitration rights and surely would have been looking at a significant raise based on his numbers. Perhaps it was expansion draft subterfuge from Sweeney when he said he was going to tender his RFAs when it really didn’t make sense to ever tender Kase, but either way it seems to be an admission that Boston’s moves at the trade deadline two seasons ago really didn’t pan out.

  9. Lopina is already 20 years old, so taking him too early may be a risk, despite that he’s had time to develop. What will be key is seeing how he plays in his second year at UMass, assuming he doesn’t sign as a free agent if he is undrafted. This season showed his offensive potential, and finding consistency is the key. However, his defensive and faceoff abilities will get him selected.

    Strengths

    • Faceoffs
    • Defensive play
    • Experience winning

    Under Construction (Improvements to Make)

    • Offensive consistency

Pastujov is an exceptionally talented dual-threat winger who can beat opposition defenders in a variety of ways. He’s one of the best puck handlers in the draft class and produced several highlight-reel plays throughout the season. He’s got soft hands and can handle the puck close to his body and use a quick burst of speed to embarrass a defender. When he gets up to full speed, he’s incredibly hard to stop and can weave in-and-out of the opposing steam with ease.

LA moves up again. If they take Pustajov, I might switch allegiances.

Edit: They took a monster 6'6 Finnish center. The Kings draft Finns, the Ducks don't. Therefore, no wonder they will be significantly better than us in the future lol.

    Strengths

    • Skating
    • Defensive play
    • Ability to find open space in offensive zone

Under Construction – Improvements to Make

    • Ability to receive passes
    • Adding more weight (would make him even more impactful when he is being physical)

    NHL Potential

Helenius does not have the makings of a high-end offensive contributor at the NHL level. When he rounds out his game, I could see him being a solid bottom-six player who is relied upon defensively and can contribute at the offensive end every so often.

The Deslauriers thing is absurd.  The only thing I can think is that Murray already has a deal in place and is doing this as some kind of appreciative gesture for being a good organizational soldier.  I have no desire for Deslauriers to be on the team any more, but I've heard he's very well liked in the locker room.

I think you're correct in that Bob has a deal in place. Maybe they take Henrique and there's a trade in the future?

Wow, what a statement from the Rangers!!! Calling for Parros to be straight up fired. Can’t say I disagree. If I sucked at my job as much as Parros sucks at his, I’d have been fired a long time ago.

I’ll never forgive him for what he did to Cogs especially when you look at what Cogs was suspended for and what Wilson did to get a fine.

It’s being reported on hockey Twitter that one of the Sens players has tested positive and that “several” others are thought to be infected. Also the belief is that LA Staples Center is the source of the Sens’ infection. Sens played there right after their game at the Ponda Center, and the Ducks were supposed to play their next game at Staples, but for the season being suspended. Hopefully that means a huge bullet was dodged there.

Possible the Hockey Gods are evening things up from the Mumpisota infestation from a few years back?

BREAKING: Ottawa Senator is first #NHL player to test positive for coronavirus. Unnamed player's last games before the league suspended play last Thursday were against the #LAKings and #NHLDucks.
