  2. The Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch came prepared to handle the transition from All-Star exit to trade mania, reporting on a number of situations in his latest “Insider Trading” column. Garrioch begins with the further shift in the status quo of the Anaheim Ducks. Anaheim began the season hoping to return to being contenders with a talented mix of veterans and youngsters. However, it has not played out that way on the ice, as the Ducks hold the second-worst record in the Western Conference. Recently, a report came out that the team was willing to use their cap space to take on bad contracts if it meant that they could add prospects and picks in return. Garrioch now reports that the team is taking it one step further, perhaps in response to winning just three of their past 15 games. He hears from multiple league sources that the Ducks are preparing for a full rebuild and are at least willing to listen on just about every player. For a team with so few valuable impending free agents – Michael Del Zotto and Derek Grant lead the way – this shift in the status quo could make for a much bigger deadline in Anaheim. Ondrej Kase, who has previously been rumored to have fallen out of favor with the team, could be one possible casualty, as could defenseman Josh Manson, who has recently been linked to a few other teams. What about Rickard Rakell, one of the best value contracts in the league and a player that any contender would like to get their hands on? Or long-term players like Cam Fowler, Adam Henrique, and Jakob Silfverberg? Franchise faces Ryan Getzlaf and John Gibson and top defender Hampus Lindholm are likely off the table, but nearly anyone else in Anaheim over the age of 24 appears to be a candidate to move at the right price.

There seem to be a lot of ref haters online trying to justify this, saying he was just trying to get back to the bench or back into the play or whatever. To me Kane was CLEARLY trying to get back to the guy that he was just tangled up with. The linesman is trying to prevent that, and considering the entire game was a gong show I don't blame him. Kane is classless.

JUST IN: #Sharks F Evander Kane suspended three games for physical abuse of an official following Sunday's incident in their preseason finale against the #GoldenKnights.

Ugh....bringing up Vermette for SLASHING a ref...you mean his light tap that didn't mean anything????

But anyway, back to topic at hand. Yes he absolutely should be. At first when I watched it it looked he may have thought that was Knights player...but then reading his comments made me just hate him more and he was trying to justify pushing the ref 'cause hte ref "attacked him"....made me realize he did it intentionally and 100% should be suspended.

From what I can tell the ref got accidentally slashed, sure (and also much more dangerous of a slash than Vermette's love tap), but the ref didn't take a bunch of strides to tackle Kane. He was keeping him from the other player and then Kane lost his balance and took the ref with him. That's a category II, no question.

What upsets me the most is that he will get the category 2 suspension and will think he doesn't deserve it. Classless player.

His comments and attitude after the fact didn't help him at all.  Especially accusing the ref of taking a bunch of strides, which he clearly didn't.

I'd guess Winnipeg just wants to lowball Laine as much as they can considering how "bad" he was last season...which is just insulting to everyone involved. I'd love to have Laine....sigh....

But yeah, man, no clue what those teams are going to do. But I would guess yeah, us and Ottawa and Columbus will be helping them out...

I don't want a player with an ego problem on the team.

  8. Training Camp Notes: Byfuglien, Dach, Perry

September 13th, 2019 at 10:19am CST • By Gavin Lee

The Winnipeg Jets today announced that Dustin Byfuglien has been granted a leave of absence from the team and will not be participating at the start of training camp. Head coach Paul Maurice and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff both explained that it is not injury related and that it is “nothing sinister.” There is no timetable for his return, but hopefully he can get whatever it is sorted out quickly.

You said it above - he just had his first kid a month ago.  He'd either have to uproot his family or spend half the season across the country from them.  And he's from New York, so he most likely has relatives there who want to be around him and his family.  I have no idea who his wife is, but it's not far-fetched to assume she might be from the area as well.  I think the Ducks have as a good a shot as any other Pacific Division team, and probably a lot of the Central teams as well.  But I have to think it would be easier on the family to either stay in the area or at least be on the East Coast.

We can hand-wave the distance thing away all we want, but he clearly wanted to be in New York. People like being around family. I have to think that teams out east have an advantage when it comes to signing him.  He might not consider West Coast teams at all unless he's got no other offers.

Having an infant is much different than having school age children.Infants are easy to move. I also agree with DTS that a change of scenery after being eaten up by the New York media would be a nice a change. Anaheim is in rebuild but I still think they can be contenders this year. SC probably not but they will compete. As far as family, he's spent 11 years in the NHL with the last 2 being in New York. Most people want to be around family but when you're a professional athlete, member of the military, etc. being around family isn't always doable. I think if BM offers him decent money and term, he would take the chance knowing it could revitalize his career. I would give him $3 X 2 or $2 X 3. I disagree with splitting Lindholm/Manson so it would be nice to have someone who could possibly pair with Cam.

Assuming he’d be willing to sign on the west coast, I think that Murray should kick the tires on him if he’s not going to trade for a RHD. The Ducks need to improve that position so badly and Shattenkirk would be an upgrade at a huge discount  to what he was getting paid by New York.

Shattenkirk bought out so BM should be able to sign him to a cheap 1 year show me contract.

LOL! Perry to Dallas on a cheap 1-year deal is basically trolling Bob Murray as payback for bringing in Garnett and Robidas.

Wonder how Stars fans are going to take this too. Pears has been less popular in Dallas than he has been anywhere else in the league.

Looks like Dallas is also picking up Sekera.

Expect DAL to sign recently bought-out defenceman Andrej Sekera to a one-year contract today.

1.5M in base salary, $500 in potential bonuses.
