  1. I think it's going to be a Loooooooooong Season. Aside from Zegras, we really don't have anyone in the lineup that truly excites me. I know there are many here who discount the idea of getting a marquee FA superstar, and believe a well rounded lineup is a much better way to go, but I think you need both. Who honestly is seasoned and of such high stature, that really has a "Wow" factor? Where is the Selanne, the Pronger, the Niedermayer, Getzlaf, Perry? It's not Silf, he's coming to the end of his career, and off an injury. It's not Henrique, who we essentially wanted to give away last year, for nothing. After that, you have a lot of journeymen and rookies. We've more or less Stood Pat the last 2 off seasons, AND we lost Getzlaf along the way. He too was at the tail end of his career, and although still very talented, couldn't carry the team on his back. Probably at least one of the reasons he decided to retire. If we had a Cup contender, or were even close, who knows if he would have given it another go. I probably have a reputation for being a Debbie Downer in recent years about the Ducks. But guess what, our team has really Stunk it up on the ice for the last few seasons. We haven't even reached what could be considered mediocrity. Until we take a step to seriously upgrade the roster, And The Coaching Staff (i.e. Eakins), nothing will change. We'll still have certain cheerleaders here on the message boards giving their before game pep talks, but every season will be spent hoping to achieve 80+ points, rather than the 95+ points it will take to make the playoffs, and have a shot at the Cup. My 1 cent.
  2. Who is the "proven playoff stud?" Surely it's not Gibson. In 26 Playoff games, he's 11-13 with 2 no decisions. That's hardly studly.
  3. I think it's kind of pointless to speculate about what Verbeek is going to do this summer, when the ONE THING that everyone expected him to do, Fire Eakins, apparently isn't gonna happen. Incoming GM's can the coach even under mediocre circumstances, and Eakins has performed far worse than mediocre. Wish I could understand his reasoning on this one.
  4. Yes, but I think if it hasn't happened by now, it's not going to. My prediction is they do Getzlaf next season. Then maybe Perry, whenever he gets around to retiring.
  5. April Fool's Day Was 2 Weeks Ago. Perhaps this is the real reason Getzlaf decided to retire.
  6. If "leading by example" really made a difference, the Ducks would have done better the last 3-4 seasons, with a great Captain like Getzlaf, who did exactly that. I shudder to think how bad things will be when we don't even have that. We've got a glimpse the last couple of weeks, as Getzlaf has spent most of those weeks out of the lineup. I suppose Terry seems like the most likely choice from the current roster. The question is, does he have any interest in taking on that role?
  7. I wonder if he would have stripped the team down if we were 7-1-2 over the last 10 games rather than 1-7-2.
  8. Were the Kings, Sharks, Rangers, Islanders, Sabres all on his list, because CA & NY both have some of the nation's highest rates.
  9. Yeah, considering the maximum # of points they can achieve if they go 17-0-0 the rest of way, is 99, I'd say it's fantasy.
  10. I'd like some of what Pat is smoking. Just now on TNT, he said that the Ducks are still in the hunt for a Playoff spot. Really Pat? What a bunch of hogwash. If the Ducks are in the hunt for a Playoff spot, why did you just trade 20% of the roster?
  11. So, they're either going to get a marquee UFA during the off season, or they'll be reducing ticket prices for next season, right? I guess they better raise concession prices at Honda Center again, to make up for the loss of SSH and non-SSH.
  12. So, the Ducks lost 25% of their Starting Lineup. Manson, Deslauriers, Lindholm, Rakell, and Getzlaf, assuming he retires.
  13. How would they have a deal for a comparable or better Dman? They're Sellers, Not Buyers. The next chance for a comparable Dman won't come until Free Agency opens up in several months. And the Ducks only go after marquee UFA's, once every decade, so I'm not optimistic that they're going to get someone of Lindholm's caliber, anytime soon. But there's zero chance they're going to get one before the trade deadline.
  14. On the Radio pregame show, they mentioned the "High Profile Free Agents," the Ducks have. They talked about how Manson was traded, then discussed the Lindholm situation, and also touched on Rakell. Getzlaf was not included in the discussion, although they later talked about how he was out of the lineup due to injury. I guess that means he's not going to be traded and is safe? Perhaps he is going to retire after the season ends.
  15. You're probably right. I just don't think he's going to get a 1st. He could very well get a top prospect along with a 2nd.
  16. My prediction is a 2nd Round pick, which will be in the later part of the round, since it's coming from a Playoff bound team, along with a Grade B prospect, who may make the NHL club simply because our roster is not deep enough.
  17. If Verbeek thinks that Lindholm is worth a 1st Rounder, a Grade A Prospect, and another "piece," perhaps he should get a deal done to keep him in Anaheim. Assuming he were even able to get a 1st Round Pick, that would essentially be the "Grade A Prospect." He's not going to get both. The additional piece won't be a problem to get, because it's going to be a player who will spend the rest of his career down south with the Gulls.
  18. I'm not sure why everybody thinks it's a good possibility that Getzlaf retires this year. He's 36, which is the same age Scottie retired at, and people thought he was retiring earlier than he needed to. Of course, there was really nothing left for him to accomplish. Perhaps Getzlaf does want to spend more time with his family, and realizes the Ducks are not going to contend for a Cup anytime soon, and desires to have played his full career here. Unless he feels his body is breaking down, why not sign another 1 year deal, like Selanne did at the end? I guess I'm thinking like a fan, who doesn't want to see him go. He's certainly suffered less abuse over his career than Perry, and Corey is still going. I hope at least if he is about to retire, that he is not traded to play out his last weeks in the NHL for a different club, even if it is for a playoff run. No matter the return, would be devastating to see him hoist the Cup in another uniform, and then call it quits.
  19. The Ducks don't exactly have a history of signing high priced UFA's. The only one they signed last year was Getzlaf, and they really haven't gone after anyone big since Scottie, who signed here primarily because of his brother.
  20. I know, and this is the main reason I hope that he stays. It's probably pretty much up to him. Based on what Verbeek said, he doesn't want to lose free agents for nothing at season's end. So unless he and Getz have a handshake deal for next season, it seems likely the Ducks could get something decent for him in return from a team that could use him in the playoffs, given his experience. I think if he were to accept a trade, he would want something close to home. That leaves Vegas & L.A. as likeliest.
  21. So, what are the odds on Dallas making it to the end of season? I say that when it looks like the Ducks are realistically out of the Playoffs, he's out as well. I think he'll make it to at least the 3/21 Trade Deadline, but be gone by the end of the month. We'll see, but so long as the Ducks are within striking distance of a playoff spot, management isn't going to rock the boat, and he's safe. I've never really disliked the guy, unlike the Former GM. It's kind of sad that the team actually overachieved this season, yet he knows his days are numbered. The only thing that could possibly save him at this point, would be the Ducks advancing to the 2nd or more likely, the 3rd Round. That would make it more difficult to fire someone who accomplished this as coach of a team people thought more likely to be in the running for a lottery pick than a Cup.
  22. I fear that Getzlaf will play his last game for the Ducks on Friday March 18, unless the Ducks can get it together right quick.. Wouldn't surprise me if he went to Vegas, since they're in the playoff picture, and it's close enough to his family in O.C. WORST case scenario, he ends up in L.A., but I don't think the Ducks would move him there, and hopefully he'd be opposed to playing with them, but perhaps he would just for the remainder of season, since he'll be free to leave as a UFA once it's over.
  23. I seriously doubt that he'll be fired this season, unless the Ducks completely collapse in the next 3 months. But I think it's pretty much a 100% certainty at this point, that he won't be back next year. I suppose if the Ducks win the Cup, that would change, but does anybody really expect that outcome?
