Spend the money we have. I don’t understand how ownership can build big entertainment districts and upgrade the rink and pay their employees during the pandemic (not complaining about any of this cause it’s awesome) but not spend up to the cap where it matters most. You win games people come the games and spend money and buy jerseys and you make the playoffs and all the revenue that comes with it. By being 10 mil cheap on the budget/cap probably cost more that that in revenue loss. You can not target B level players and expect to get an A.

Why trade both big RD....Toronto is supposedly actively trying to move Nylander. Mason seemed to be the key piece in those rumors. But with Gudbranson on the move, I think that rumor dies. I really like Gudbranson. I think he played well with Fowler.

Well this specific thread has been about that for awhile now moose. It’s about the covid as it affects the league and although some of it has not been directly related to hockey the issue in itself is the reason why there is no hockey thus it is related. also from I recall reading this isn’t so much politics as it is just world news.

Regarding the post about how the US has so many cases and deaths with such a great health care system not making sense. Keep in mind that people with diabetes are very affected by the complications. The US (I believe) is the world leader of obesity which goes one in hand with type 2 diabetes at least. There may be a correlation with that.

I’m hoping, that because of their depth at center they will pass on Byfield (or trade down a spot) and we trade up with Ottawa’s third and we can get him...wishful thinking, but they would still have 5 and 5 plus probably our what is it 20 sumthing and a prospect? The thing about Murray and possibly partially ownership, we always seems to go cheap at the deadline. Where we could have had a great player that could have easily put us over the top, but do to budgetary reasons or an unwillingness to pay a price we always settle for second or third rate players. As well as the case when we almost got Kessler at the deadline but didn’t get him until the draft. Had we got him at the deadline, we could have won that year. Why? Because of some unknown aspect of the trade that was an ‘overpayment’ in the eye of Murray. How has the team been since? Dwindling. We missed that window for what, an extra third? And mid tier prospect. Not well played...in hindsight. Sometimes you have to pay to play. I understand not selling the future, but what good is the future if we have to settle for second best. It doesn’t seem to have paid off has it, only perhaps prolonged the inevitable.

Right. And in the comments by GMBSBM he said we were too young, especially with the injuries. We wanted a ‘youth movement’. My money is on him picking up more veterans this summer to plug the gaps. Maybe even AHL veterans to give us options for call ups. Don’t tip the scale sort of thing. And he has made comments that suggest he is going to try and make a splash with defense either via trade or FA. But we have been let down by such promises before.

I think he talking about coaches too. Specifically assistants running special units. Sounds like they were being to soft with the kids “letting them get away with murder”. I too want to hear audio. What’s his tone. A lot of this is repeated over the years, but I’m picking up on more anger. He is cussing in the interview. Not professional imo but shows he has had enough.

If the team was competing for a long run or had a chance to win it, I could see Getz taking a discount to help the team add that final piece and to give himself one last shot at another cup. With the team hurting and about to have some space, I don’t know why he would take a discount. There is no real reason for it outside of him letting the owners off the hook for a couple million. Without Getz we have no real ‘big name’ players on the ice do we? Idk if the rest of the league considers it. Maybe Gibson but I fell like the rest of the core are B list Actor/player kind of guys. Second line tier. Getz might put butts in the stands. Pay the man. Do people get Season tickets to see Fowler or Silvferberg? I would rather pay Getz more to keep him around and on the team for another season or two just to have a little extra something to look forward to (my person opinion on players I want to watch). I don’t really think the team will have a ton of upside for a couple more seasons, if we get lucky with some picks, gems hidden in the draft, surprising UFA signings, young guys finally waking the heck up! We, or at least I, need Getz for the excitement/passion aspect he brings.

It might. I’m not sure. Just tying to think of a way for everyone to benefit the best they can. Maybe they do it pay per view style like a UFC fight. I don’t want to have to pay to watch, but maybe that generates some income.

To have a neutral location for the playoffs, albeit most likely no ticket/merchandise sales etc...the tv rights and commercials and sponsors in Canada would be insane. If the season is canceled I would say it would only be fair that the revenues/profits generated be split amongst all the teams rather than just the ones playing or just the venue. Because there will be teams/owners that say ‘hey we might have been in the playoffs if we didn’t stop, it’s not fair’. On another note. Since there were wild cards seats and teams on the bubble, why don’t they do a small best of three wild card round to see who gets in. Make the four spots outside the top three from each division play it out to get those two spots. For similar reason I said above. Makes it more fair IMO. Yes they would not be as rested as the other team, but they would also get the rust off before.

Unfortunately it s looks more and more like this season is lost. They could go straight to playoffs if they get the ok by late April early May. But the experts are saying that May could be worse, with deaths growing exponentially at this point. 300 today, 400 tomorrow 500 after etc...(look it up). They should call the season where it stands and that’s the standings. If we get play offs then great, if not, it is what it is. They could hold the draft regardless virtually which is what the nfl is going to do. Free agency and draft can be done later if need be. As long as it’s before the next season, whenever that is. I wonder if they would consider a shorter playoffs like the top 8 get in, not sure that would fly.

A trade that brings a primo scoring winger at a young age I’m all for. Either Zergas in the system and a potential top pick this summer, we could address our center position immediately. We could win the draft lottery and draft a guy ready to go now, usually the #1-2 guys are ready. Then if Murray goes out and makes a splash in free agency like some are saying he said he might and manages to get Pietrangelo, we get what we need at forward and upgrade Manson at the same time. Everyone shakes off this years funk and the prospects/kids finally break out. We could see a complete 180 as early as next year. But most likely after the ED. But players like Pietrangelo don’t go to FA very often. We need to take a swing.

He has to go to another team to be his best? Why not other seasons with the ducks. Injury aside, I’m piecing together he didn’t really seem to care as much about his fitness until recently.

Other teams probably didn’t want his salary either. In BM comments he said as much. A trade would have brought something back he didn’t want. Another larger contract and a body. He wants some cap relief, and a spot for the young guys.
