why the frak did i just waste my time listening to this Dehydrated Donkey Dung?

Lol you listened to the whole thing? I skipped almost everything waiting to hear anything on Anaheim. From the 57 minute mark is where it's actually relevant to the team.

  2. I haven't watched the Getzy interview yet. But listen from the 57 min mark and I heard it loud and clear what BM had planned.... yikes. No spoilers, you gotta hear it for yourself.

Also note that there's a good amount of swearing.

Edit: this is an interview before the season started but they just uploaded it.

Oh Haha Seattle. Does this g20 guy even do that hockey?🤣

  4. Interesting, would Vegas pick him up if he's left unprotected? And what are the rules regarding injured players for the expansion draft? If I'm Vegas, would I risk picking a player who might not return 100%? I hope he makes a full recovery but now I'm wondering if this could alter our protection list.

Getzlaf and retain salary for a 2nd its a no-brainer, never should that decline! for a 3th is still a nice deal. every pick we receive for Getzlaf is a win. stop with "Getzlaf is our face... blabla", this is business guys, yes he gave us a lot. this season is over, we can't win anything, make the best for the future!

we also buy out Perry for have a shot on a better team for the cup and he almost did it with Dallas... why you want to prevent it to Getzlaf? give him a shot and with Vegas he has a real shot. and if you both side wants, resign him at summer, then you have a him AND a pick.

You seem to have missed the biggest point which was Vegas has ZERO cap space. I'm not even sure what you're arguing anymore.

BS? THIS Season is OVER, nothing to win for, even we would win 1 or 2 games because Getzlaf (what is very doubtful because of his performance this season), it not help us for the future, the opposite is the case, it hurts our draft position! and if you have a 7th or nothing at the end of this season? what is better? especially in a draft you can pick late some good players because lack of scouting.... and I don't believe Vegas only offered a 7th! maybe a 3th, retain salary and it was too few for some people.... and that would be a no-brainer, even a 4th is a no-brainer! but we don't know what Vegas offered and maybe never will know it...

I not saying: all vets should go out, but we have 4 forwards, 3 defense and some goalie as Vets... too much... 3 or 4 you can give away...

and its fact that Getzlaf lost at least 15 games in 3 of the last 4 seasons with injuries, before he hasn't a lot.

You're assuming that Bob could trade him for anything when in actuality he has a nmc. We don't know for sure under what circumstances he was willing to move so there's no point I'm arguing that. Getzy is the heart and soul of the team to give him away for peanuts is about the dumbest thing anyone could do. Moving forward we need leadership that he obviously provides. He no longer needs to put up big points and he's just not an elite player anymore but he's not washed up. He's going to take a pay cut but for 1.5 mill? Lol if we flat out low ball him like that no one will ever sign here.

you want at the end of your career start a rebuild where you know that you aren't there anymore when the team starts to have success? especially after you were so shortly before the cup a couple years ago... I understand him, that he wants the retool and not the rebuild at his age.

Again, it age has nothing to do with it. What is he going to be the gm until his deathbed? Plenty of gms don't get to see the team they've assembled because they got fired. Brian Burke is one example. Everyone still recognized they were the ones who built the team.

Now pressure from management might force him to make moves even he might not like.

hmm Steel as a Seattle? its a possibilty...

I don't know who we will protect, the issue is, BM is 67 years old in a half year, would he really like to make a rebuild? he will not be there by the team after the rebuild is done. thats maybe also the reason he's not really on a real rebuild and only retool mode... thats maybe our problem, for a rebuild you should have a younger GM, thats the real issue... would you love to take a rebuild in his age?

Dorion is 48, Yzerman 55, Kekalainen 54, Gorton 52... they are all 10-20 years younger who takes the rebuild with their team..

This doesn't make sense. What does him being older than some GM's have to do with whether we rebuild or not? He's impatient to try to win a cup? I'm pretty sure we're not winning anything soon regardless if we rebuild or not.

it is bad asset management if you think the value is going to go up.  if the value doesn't go up, then you're wasting resources keeping him around.

here's a different way to think about it: remember the first couple of times we saw Z and Drys play on the NHL team?  while it's not obvious how good they're going to be long term, they've both taken some hits and bounced back up, and they both look extremely good.  Milano has looked decent, but not nearly as... sound, as a player, as either Z or Drys.  when you experience how easy it is to recognize talented youth (like Z and Drys), you start to wonder why we hang onto these other young players that can't turn the key.  they all have skill enough to have a good night here and there, but consistency is what wins and makes the team successful, and Milano doesn't have that.  why should we spend season after season pushing rope with someone like Milano, so to speak, when we could be testing out some 6th rounder that just hasn't had a chance to show his mettle yet.

who would we have hung on to that would have made this team magically better?  (note - you get 5 forum demerits for every player you bring up that's been discussed ad nauseam on the board.)  Montour is one of the few players I can think of that BM traded pretty much out of spite and without easy, EASY justifications at the time...

We're actually doing that right now I think with guys like agozino (sp?), de leo, Carrick,  etc. Milano is a decent player. I forgot about welinski when I saw him in the last game. We also have Guhle, where is he? He's gotta be better than Larsson right? We have too many forwards and too many defensemen. Bob knows there's a team limit? We have Backes sitting in the press box watching games for most of the season. I expect that we're going to see a lot of shuffling of players, especially now with injuries, where we're going to see more gulls brought up to see what they got. This off season should, and hopefully for all our sanity sake, be a major shake up. I'm down for giving anyone a shot at this point. Stolarz has taken this opportunity to show that he might be our backup so guys are still playing for jobs.

Well, he did almost get a hat trick last night - that should count for something...

(Watch, that'll probably be the only goals he scores all season.)

I was rooting for him to get it. He has been pretty noticable, at least this last game, even though the team played pretty bad getting straight dominated the 2nd and 3rd period. I actually like him, he's hungry and you can see that he's taking this opportunity and trying to make the most out of it. Really good pickup so far.

  11. 8 minutes ago, Fisix said:

he's eligible for the ED I think.

Doubtful that he'd get taken but would be great if they chose him. He probably satisfies the requirement for a goalie to be exposed though.

  13. Sorry to bump an old thread but the gdt is closed and didn't want to start a new topic. Apparently Stolarz has actually broken the ducks record for most shots against for a shut out. Looks like it's possible we found our backup for next season.

I think part of the reason he got such a haul was that the Caps wanted rid of Panik's contract, so they had to give up even more in order to make Panik part of that deal.

Ducks don't have the cap space to weaponize it like that.

That's what sucks to be honest. Watching teams get picks for space was depressing.

Please explain why.  I've seen other teams, including the Kings, trade their veterans for picks and prospects this year and over the past several years.  Why can't the Ducks do it when they clearly should be selling?

Because those guys all have more than one season on their contracts besides Manson, who I did say was more likely to move. Teams are loading up for playoff runs and guys who have a lot of term left usually aren't the prime targets. I get that teams did trade players with term but I get the sense that we just weren't getting the kind of offers we wanted. What, should we trade guys for 2nd and 3rd round picks?

I was expecting more moves to be made but I'm not going to complain because teams might have low balled us, we don't know for sure but maybe in the coming days we'll hear the fallout.

So yes, it's possible we might get better offers in the off season because teams have more flexibility. Nothing strange about that.

  16. 7 hours ago, CAsFirstCup said:

Now more than ever the Ducks should be selling at the trade deadline.  GMBM should be trading a veteran for picks and or prospects.  If Silfverberg, Henrique, Manson, and Fowler are all still on the roster after the the deadline passes, it will be 100% clear that he has no clue how to handle a rebuild.

Those aren't really the kind of players who are moved at the deadline though. They're more off season moves. But I'd be happy if we were able to move them now though but aside from Manson the other three are less likely.

    NO-TRADE CLAUSES

    • David Backes (15-team trade list)

    • Cam Fowler (4-team trade list)

    • Adam Henrique (10-team no-trade list)

    • Josh Manson (12-team no-trade list)

    • Kevin Shattenkirk (12-team no-trade list)

    • Jakob Silfverberg (12-team no-trade list)

    NO-MOVEMENT CLAUSES

    • Ryan Getzlaf

    • Ryan Kesler

For the purpose of a trade deadline and a dying team a NMC and a NTC have the same effect.  Harder to trade obviously

I'm pretty sure most teams have some kind of no trade for their top players.

i can meet that halfway.  i'm not saying we have stellar coaching in place right now, but the thing i want to scream at the void is that i don't think there's a head coach out there that can short-cut cure the self-responsibility and team-responsibility problems with our veteran players (that in my opinion we've been seeing for years now, across multiple coaches).

the team is going to mostly look like garbage while the restructuring is happening, but it's the type of looking-like-garbage that matters.  when i see the vets periodically/progressively buying into the present system and putting their heart into the game (and what looks like practices too, when you start to see the lines smoothly transition from D to O and back and forth, like the better teams do regularly), i see something working... and i don't want to mess up even that seemingly slow movement forward by bringing in a new HC.  it would restart the rebuild with no reasonable guarantee of better results (in my eyes).  for now, i'm more willing to shuffle vets than HCs.

you can launch the current assistants to the moon - it doesn't seem like they've made Eakins' job any easier or the players' jobs any easier.  they've failed under three different coaches, in my eyes.

I think it's fair to put some of our current issues on ther vets. This whole season is a giant mess with injuries, our overall play, still a young team, and coaching. I'm not of the opinion that we're going to magically become a playoff team if coaching changes but I think it would definitely help. Especially the assistant coaches. We also don't have much of a team identity right now. Are we a speed team? A tight checking team? A run and gun type? Who are we? GMBM probably doesn't even know. He keeps saying we need speed yet traded Cogs for whatever reason who wasn't slow by any means. We're picking up players who seem to almost be fringe nhlers. That's on Bob. But we're trying to fit square pegs into round holes when coaching takes this bunch and jumbles everything and tries to get players to almost be what they're not. Why are we utilizing Grant and Del in the ways that we do?

I understand our current circumstances and that our vets are being asked to do things they normally wouldn't. Our vets are also on limited time, they're not getting any younger. Why would they deliberately toss a full season away because they don't like the systems? Seems like it goes both ways. The current system isn't working, players are frustrated and we're going on long losing streaks and quite frankly they seem like yeah maybe they've had enough. Coaching is refusing to change and adapt so we're seeing a vicious cycle. I remember BB was in the hot seat and we weren't scoring, so he could have continued to try to get everyone back but instead we saw a change in the way we approached games. We became a defensive team and were grinding out games 2-1 for example. To me, that's what's missing. Coaching can't adapt and is trying to do the same things over and over, it's not working. Even just in game adjustments, they're not there. We just toss everyone in a blender and hope it works. Yeah I think our vets have probably given up at this point. We're getting a losing culture in the room. I think if you probably ask guys maybe they would secretly like to be moved. It's concerning, this might affect our young guys. We're in serious trouble. I think what needs to happen is coaching needs to change and probably some of our vets need to go. This off season we should definitely make some serious changes.

i guess that's one way to mischaracterize the series of deductions i posted, all based on what we've seen play out on the ice and at the various press conferences held by, and other conversations with, BM.  the quoted language also apparently infers that the "coach has lost the room" posts that've been made fairly consistently since the RC days aren't all fairly dated assumptions about NHL player psychology; that inference doesn't seem like a reasonable take.

people blaming Eakins for the current team dynamic and performance are in denial about how weak the team is, and in particular, how weakly our vets have been playing.  people wanting to swap Eakins out for another coach are inferring a bunch of team psychology effects (magically occurring after such swap) that have no basis in how the team dynamic has worked since before BB was fired.

it doesn't take a psychology doctorate to figure out that BM is piddleed at the vets, and it also doesn't take a psychology doctorate to figure that it's because he's asked them to do something that he thinks they can do, but that he thinks they aren't doing.  it also doesn't take a doctorate in team history to figure out that BM's displeasure with the current veteran lineup has been around for more than 2 seasons.

deducing from that very reasonable set of knowns that our current performance and team dynamic is all Eakins' fault (or even that it's all BM's fault) doesn't make any sense.  furthermore, none of the coaching changes we've seen in the NHL over the past 3-4 years indicates a coaching change with this team and under these conditions would get the Ducks where we want them to go.  at best, some other coach could come in and maybe scrape together a few extra wins over the course of this season, but it'd cost throwing the entire team development plan completely out the window.

no matter what the Ducks do, it's going to take more time than what they've used so far to get out of the pit.  i wish Eakins had gotten a fairer shake by the veterans on the team, and while that dynamic takes two to tango (or tank), based on what i've seen watching most (98%, 99%?) of the home games in person over the past 5 years, i put the blame for any failings in that dynamic on the veterans - they've proven (to me) that they aren't as self-reliant, as a group, as vets on other teams, both in terms of policing their own game by game performance AND in terms of assisting the team in turning rookies into dependable, highly performing NHL players.  they need to turn that around under Eakins before I'll feel they'll be able to take additional steps under a better coach.

that last is about my psychology, not the teams'.

I'm still not agreeing with what you're saying. Special teams are garbage, lines are a jumbled mess, players are strangely deployed, defensive structure has tanked since Yawney left. Yes, I think Yawney brought out the best in our defense, he's a perfect example of why I don't agree that it's not a coaching issue. The players are obviously to blame here as well.

If you're suggesting the vets are the problem, do we trade them all? Do we strip Getzy of the C like the sharks with Thornton? We had some good playoff runs where I think we really had a chance to win the cup. Did we choke in game 7s? Yes. It could go both ways though, BB or the players? Both should share the blame and I think the players understood that. But to say that it's the vets who quit on the team isn't right as it was pointed out that Silf was praised by GMBM for his leadership ability and got an extension. Besides, if the players were solely to blame we'd see more of them traded off as GMBM was also HCBM for a short time and could see who was doing what. He did say that he had concerns, but besides Perry being bought out who actually left? Kesler is injured. We probably lost some veteran leadership if anything from the loss of those players.

To me it seems that coaching is the bigger issue currently. I thought we should have gotten rid of the assistants this past off season. And it's too bad that we didn't because maybe, just maybe, we'd be having a different conversation about Eakins. Because as it currently stands it's fair to say that they're an issue but how much of an issue towards Eakins are they or is Eakins just as bad as them?

  20. Besides the ducks I'm following (kind of just watching highlights) Montreal, only because of Perry. But I can't help but notice that they don't play him very much. His TOI is fairly low. I understand he's getting older but he's one of the top scorers on the team. I'm just baffled that a guy who arguably should be top 5 in scoring on the team, because he's missed more games then some of the others, isn't played more.

But I should give some credit to Perry here because he deserves it. He's still producing and I know it's the Habs but seriously though the guy can still produce. He's not the player he once was but he's no slouch either. And he's arguably a guy who we could use right now. He consistently parks in front of the net. We currently have few guys who have net front presence.

He'd currently be tied for 6th with Getzy in points in 6 fewer games. And because he's played fewer games based on points percentage (with at least 2 games played, thanks to Drysdale) he'd be third overall on the team. Let that sink in. I believe he's 7th overall in points for the Habs but much higher based on points percentage. Perry may be old and slow but he can obviously still produce. I hope he retires with the Ducks someday instead of somewhere else, even if it's for a one day contract.

both Scotty and Bieksa (and Kesler) coach (have coached?) kids to significant tournament appearances, and i think they'd make excellent adult-people coaches.  i think Scotty part owns a WHL? team with his bro in Canada.  Scotty was listed as an assistant coach for our AHL affiliate at one point, but none of that went anywhere solid.  Scotty still lives in the area, at least he did before Covid came to town.  I think he'd be interesting, but he's super focused on family, and he just may not be interested in entering the AHL or NHL again until all the kids are out and through college... if then.

i think (i certainly hope) that the organization has stayed in good graces with Scotty.  to their credit, if they have.  any investment in that relationship is worth its weight in gold.

Yeah I believe both Bieksa and Kesler mentioned on their podcast that each was coaching kids in some kind of tournaments. As a side note, it's interesting that so many podcasts from former nhlers have come up. I guess when you have some interesting stories to tell about when they were in the league people are interested. But Bieksa definitely makes a good tv personality besides just doing a podcast.

    nice!

now do every goalie. Has someone with the same last name ever scored on other goalies with the same last name???? .... :P jk jk jk

This is more interesting then watching the ducks play....😥

This season should never be remembered ever again! But it just continues to get worse, can't we just skip the rest of the season? Throw in the towel or something? Just give us the #1 pick already!
