  1. We need to be a destination players want to play in. One of our strengths is how exciting our young core is. This is headlined with Trevor and Troy. Leo Carlsson and McTavish are also part of that too. Drysdale to a lesser extent. And then our promising prospects on defense that have yet to play a single NHL game. We can’t afford to not sign Terry and Zegras long term. Not doing that hurts how we exciting of a destination we are. And will also risk pushing our rebuild back by a few years. If terry and Zegras both sign short term that isn’t a death sentence, but it certainly is Verbeek betting a lot on the team taking a big step.

  2. I hope Pat is doing more than just thinking he’ll figure it out later in terms of the cap. We have a lot of players who will likely be commanding a lot of money within the next 3-4 years. We can’t keep them all.

Oh that thought, we can not possibly think in 3 years we will be Zegras, McTavish, and Carlsson down the middle. If they all hit their ceiling, that’s a lot of money being spent on a 3rd line center. I think that would be amazing, but I do not see how that is our center depth in 3 to 4 years.

And they were for Drysdale, Terry, Zegras, Dostal which was always going to happen. Groulx even got a QO

Question: does this mean they will sign it? Or does this mean next step is more negotiation but they received the QO so everything is squared away legally speaking? Does this reduce the risk of RFA? I am just not understanding why we know they got a QO but we have no news about them signing said offer.

Dreger is reporting it as the Kings giving up Vilardi + Iafallo + Kupari + 2nd rounder.

Am I undervaluing Vilardi and Iafallo and Kupari? This seems like a steal for LA to not give up a byfield or turcotte or a 1st rounder.

Krug rumored to NOT be willing to waive his NMC/NTC to go to PHI in a trade package for Kevin Hayes.

LAK rumored to be moving Vilardi AND Iafallo in a trade package for Pierre-Luc Dubois.

It’s amazing to me if they are able to do this without byfield involved.

I´m not opposed to the kings moving vilardi. And who knows for how long PLD sticks around?

No way the Kings trade without an extension in place. But this may be the first time ever a player negotiated a “must-trade” clause! 😂😂😂

Yeah, SJ, CBJ and CHI can’t go 0-6 on points. Bad news got the Ducks who will probably jump to third worst on Saturday after beating AZ

New rule: we aren’t allowed to win a game until COLUMBUS or Chicago wins a game. Deal? Deal.

    From the Tankathon site:

The 1st overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls. A team can only jump ten spots, so only the top 11 teams are eligible for the 1st pick. If a team in the 12-16 range wins the first drawing, the first pick will remain with the worst team.

The 2nd overall pick is awarded by a drawing of ping pong balls. If a team in the 12-16 range won the first drawing, the worst team keeps the 1st pick and is excluded from the second drawing. Like the first drawing, the second winner can only jump ten spots.

Guys, this is so confusing LOL

Does this mean teams 13-16 will not, under any circumstance, move up in the draft?

OR does this mean say, the 14th worst team is Buffalo, if they win the 1OA lottery, worst place team keeps the 1OA pick and Buffalo moves up 10 spots to 4th OA? What if Detroit is 12th worst? And they win the 1OA lottery? Do they move up the 2nd OA? Or do they wait for the 2OA lottery, and if say Vancouver at 7th worse wins that? Does Vancouver get 2OA and Detroit gets 3OA? And the last place team gets 1OA?

With the absolute pillaring of Eakins, I think most fans are very aware of how important Beeker's coaching hire will. I've said it's the biggest decision that he has to make in the laundry list of decisions coming up this summer. That said, do you think it is easier to get a good capable coach or the potential talent that picks 1-4 this year have? I think the ladder is much, much harder to get.

IMO, it's completely rational and justified for fans to be upset at the Ducks getting meaningless points that will prevent them from getting a desperately needed stud player who can be a major part of making this team not suck any longer than it has to. We want the suffering of watching this team to be worth it and it's not going to be. Chicago, Arizona, San Jose, Columbus, et. fans are stoked when we win and when their teams lose and vice versa for us. This team isn't close to tanking the way that other teams are and is just straight terrible (historically bad actually). What ever stretch of success they have right now isn't something that will carry over to next season either. Beating absolute garbage teams and having John Gibson make 40 or 50 saves almost every night to steal points shouldn't inspire long lasting confidence.

The Ducks had four months to show that they aren't terrible, win games and failed to do so while also somehow still screwing up their draft hopes. We suck and winning and suck at sucking at the worst possibly time. It sucks.

Chicago looks horrible right now. They may not win a game the remainder of the season. Arizona looks next horrible. Columbus and us have the next worse looking lines. San Jose next, only because they still have Norris favorite Erik Karlsson. I say facetiously. But I think out of all of those, regardless of the draft, we will be a better team sooner. And competing for a cup sooner.

     Good post by the way.

He’s getting Henrique’d. I don’t think he gets claimed with a 3.2 mil hit through next season. Teams likely want an asset or swap a bad contract to take him on

Oh, I see. I guess that makes sense. It was so long ago, but I don't remember how Chris Kunitz was viewed when we picked him up from waivers. But with the cap the way it is I can see why no one is interested in helping unless there's a pick. Man, what a strange time to see such weird trades. I get it. But they are a bit odd.

  10. Kasperi Kapanen on waivers today. 26 years old, right winger. I would take a flier on him. He must have some issues if he’s on waivers, but it might be that he’s just not performing as expected for a 1st round pick.

  11. Seeing rumors that Bo Horvat will be going to the Bruins. I am shocked at this. I’m shocked the Bruins want to risk doing anything to the team that has 5 regulation losses over half-way through the season. That’s a big change. I remember hearing Teemu talk about going to Burke at the 2007 trade deadline, not asking for any big changes as this team felt special. And all we got was Brad May. I guess if they are going to mess with chemistry, the earlier the better to make sure they can right the ship if necessary. But if I’m Don Sweeney, I’m not touching this roster!

I think it depends on what the rest of the roster looks like. If he's healthy and ready to go with a couple of weeks left in the season, and guys like Helleson, La Combe, Thrun, and Zellweger are also then in the mix, I'd be interested in seeing all of the young guys together for a few games. I don't think 2 more weeks of Eakins is going to cause any additional harm to Drysdale's development.

That is true. I could see that scenario benefiting him. When I look at it logically, I also agree, he's already had a year of Eakins, so another couple of weeks won't hurt much if at all.
