Watching Rempe play is hilarious. Looks like a baby Giraffe on ice skates, fights a guy, takes a questionable penalty and plays like 4 shifts a night.

Rempe is a lot like John Scott.  Not a great fighter, just a large human.  Guys closer to his size do ok against him.

  2. Of the teams in the playoffs, who has the best fan base?

My vote goes to Winnipeg.  Great fans in their home arena, and as visiting fans they are knowledgeable, respectful, and don’t act stupid.

  3. That will be a contract they regret after year three or four.  Hanifan already has almost 700 combined regular season and playoff games,   Good player, contract term is excessive.

8 years to term is doubling that number of games figure.

With the news that Luneau is going to be out for a while and then headed back to juniors when healthy again, the bolded seems like more of a possibility than ever before. If he stays, he'll need to be extended though. What's Boosh's asking price and what is Verbeek willing to pay to keep him?

I'm sure it will be a shorter term deal in the 3M range.  I thought from the start he was brought here to help Mintyukov adapt and make the transition.  Mintyukov having someone who shares his native language and hockey position made for a very skillful acquisition IMO...

So what's the play on defense now for the rest of this season? I think most of us are assuming that Lyubushkin gets traded before the TDL, right? So even if Luneau stays in Anaheim, they're still going to be thin on the right side within the next 1-2 months. Is there a call-up coming? Maybe Helleson finally? Or perhaps another trade? I wonder if this means Verbeek is in on one of CBJ's RHDs. Verbeek didn't seem happy with LaCombe on the right side, and Cronin has been very reluctant to put Vaks on the right side. I guess Fowler could play on his off-side, but that's not ideal for him either. Feels like something else needs to happen to get us through the next 42 games.

I think Lyubushkin stays put.  Russian speaking mentor for sure.

I wish Verbeek could have gotten away with including a third round pick, versus a second.

I see this as a good trade.

Has Torts coached him before? Honestly, I don't know when or where but I think Gauthier said he wouldn't sign with Philly after he was drafted.

Anyone around hockey know about Torts.  That is probably one of the primary reasons he wants to steer clear of Philly.

  7. You had to know the NHL wasn’t going allow itself to “waste” Bedard in Anaheim….low volume, non traditional hockey media market.

I think it was rigged from the start.

Never know though…. it might be a blessing…..some very good players in the top four or five picks….

I've thrown this name out there before, and it never seems to generate much discussion.  Is it because nobody thinks it's anywhere near a possibility?  Is it because people think that he would never want nor accept the position?  Is it because people feel he would not make a good head coach, or that it might tarnish his legacy?

The name is Scott Niedermayer.  He's a Hall Of Famer, with multiple Stanley Cups.  Known as an extremely intelligent defensive minded player, who during his illustrious career, could survey the ice like few others were capable of.

He's been with the Ducks organization since the day he retired.  Supposedly he's worked with the players on the team in recent months.  His credentials mean he would command the utmost respect in the locker room.

The moment he hung up his skates, I felt that the next chapter in his life, when he was ready, would be behind the bench.  I can't help but believe that if he were announced as the new Head Coach, the support from Ducks fans, and in fact from around the league, would be overwhelming.

As he is about to turn 50 this year, I'd say that if it's ever going to happen, the time is now.  I don't know if the question has ever been posed to him, and if he's said he has zero interest, but I'd hope that if the Ducks do have a list of candidates in mind, his name is on it.

good player doesn’t always translate to good coach……Gretzky?

Have a parade in Anaheim to celebrate the firing.

I welcome the change, but Eakins never really had a chance to be sucessful with such a thin roster.  I think he’s a great developmental coach, and would do well in an AHL job.

As sad as this sounds for Bobby after the great recovery that he achieved earlier, he should move to the KHL...we don't have a problem with what he got arrested for.

Sandis Ozolinsh had a similar problem during his playing days.  Great skills.  Trouble with the liquid hooch.

Bobby Ryan's performance downslide started with the Ducks under Randy Carlyle.  Carlyle ended up getting canned not that long after.

  11. No issues with GMPV's list.  A couple of these could be re-signed for less $$.

Not sorry to see Steel move on.  He was unsuitable in a bottom six role, and wasn't going to crack the top six.  Emerson Etem 2.0....

    Same with Larsson....

I wouldn't mind seeing Milano signed as a UFA.

Did you see who NHL Network - the league's TV station - had on set for game highlight commentary last night?

    Tyson Nash.

You can't make it up.  Just brutal optics.

Tyson Nash made some foolish comments.  Wonder what he'll say next year when Beagle gets demolished.  That is if the dog doesn't retire.

agreed on this....and lets see if we can pull Thompson from their mess lol

While yes they have a pretty short history and already it is filled with mistreating their players...it really would be just as easy to right that and in a few years be on the right track as far as how you treat your players...

Hard to believe I was pulling for the Kings so VGK didn't get in.  Turk Gallant has to be laughing out loud profusely.

I don't agree. Laine would cost too much to acquire as he is a RFA. Can you imagine what it would cost to bring him to the Ducks. Next year's 1st is a starting point. The Ducks will not be competing for anything next year, especially if Gibson is on his way out. I'd rather keep that first and hope it turns into Bedard. The only UFA worth going after is Johnny Gaudreau. He can play wing with Zegras, is 28 years old, and costs the Ducks no assets to try to bring in. Calgary will not be able to afford him and Tkachuk.

That said, isn't it already a pretty good guess that the Ducks free agent signings will be Josh Manson and Rickard Rakell. Neither player will likely be back with their current teams.

Do you really think Manson will be back?  He was more of a Bob Murray favorite...

  15. You need to keep numbers for the players to wear, otherwise your players look like Montreal with football linesmen numbers.

I’d like to see JSG35’s number retired.  10 and 15 should go up in due time.  The others you mentioned were good players, but not worthy of having their jerseys retired.  A jersey retirement needs to be the rare exception.  IMO, I’m not sure Niedermayer’s should have gone up in the rafters, but it’s a stronger case than the Ray Borque’s 77 going up in Colorado after one season.

I met Guy Hebert a couple of times back when he was playing.  Really nice guy.

Unless Eakins has compromising information on Verbeek, I can't see any way he's retained.  I think it's safe to assume he's done at the end of the season.

As for the captaincy, it could go a lot of ways.  I don't think Fowler's less vocal on-ice demeanor necessarily disqualifies him for the role, but I haven't seen much from him publicly that makes him an obvious candidate, either.  Henrique strikes me more as that guy, but he doesn't have quite the same cache within the organization.  Silfverberg is obviously well respected and already wears an "A".  Among the younger set, Terry seems like the most obvious candidate.  Lundestrom is a potential darkhorse.  I do not think it's a role that would suit Zegras at this point, but perhaps he will mature.

You want your captain to be leader on and off the ice, be a representative for the organization, and command respect from his peers for the way he treats the players, coaches, management, and other staff.  Fowler probably fits that the best at this moment, but I could see a scenario where the Ducks decide to go captainless for a season or two, having alternate captains rotate through that role from game to game, and seeing if someone steps up.  Maybe you wait to see if a guy like Terry signs a long-term contract with the team.  I wouldn't mind that approach.  It has the potential to alienate Fowler if he thinks he deserves the role, but maybe he doesn't even want it.  I can't see it bothering anyone else.

Good post...I just floated the question since @DucksFan_08 posted we are getting a new coach as if he had been terminated.

I think his contract expires and he doesn't get an extension.  The guy is not NHLHC material AFAIC.
