But since we´re bringing in a new coach I suppose he wants to assess what goes on in the lockerroom so I don´t think we´ll see a new captain named right away.

    Did Eakins get fired(yet)?

  2. 25 minutes ago, gotchabari said:

Exactly.  Can you imagine a 20 year old doing that?

Getz has to calmly talk to refs 10 times to earn one of his famous outbursts.  Have you EVER seen Zegras stand calmly just listening?

It was a learning experience for Getzlaf.  He lost his temper a few times with the officials and he got spanked.  Remember one time Brian Pochmara upped the penalty for young Captain Getzlaf's arguing with the game on the line, and it put the Ducks shorthanded....Ducks lost the game as a direct result of the upped penalty.

You can certainly be a quieter guy and lead.  Niedermayer being the good example.

  3. Fowler is he logical choice.  Under contract for awhile.  He's an honest player.   Henrique is another possibility.

Also, I don't have an issue with no captain be installed.  Of the young players, Terry or Lundestrom could be future possibilities.

Outside of the Coyotes announcer, I haven't seen that.

There's are two points that I think are being conflated.

Zegras has been chirpy and cocky at times.  This does not defend the type of assault we saw from Beagle.  It will force his enforcers into willing, fair combat more than they need to be.  It also put him into a willing combat position as I've certainly seen him chest up to people during games that are twice his size.  Someone will call his bluff someday.

Spot on.  Enforcers will be forced to enforce.  Considering the lack of league response on the Beagle - Terry incident, I fear someone may decide to give Zegras the same treatment.  Might even be a smaller player.  Some of the smaller guys are capable of the rough stuff.  It's not his skill that drives players nuts, it's his antics.

    Sadly, nothing.

I partook in quite a campaign after Cogliano's suspension to ask what they were doing behind the scenes and ended up with a brief meeting with a VP.  He confirmed they couldn't do anything for fear of retribution, and took offense at my questioning if that was truly all we could do and if the Samuelis ould stand up for their guy.  He went on about how the owners are so accessible (by walking around just in time for games to start with bodyguards swatting people away) and how they'd do anything for their people if they could.

In things like this, the organization is spineless and it starts at the top.  I still do not clap for them when they are announced for puck drops or whatever, and I used to actively boo.  I have zero respect for their willingness to stand up for what's right, and their donations don't counter that for me.  Charcater is what you do without wealth, and they don't check any boxes for me in that regard.

We are definitely on the same page.  The lack of pushback from ownership on the Cogliano fiasco spoke volumes.  It was also another dunderhead Parros decision.

He woo'd and celegrated in front of the opponent's bench.  It was also mentioned during the game that he pointed at someone.  Then Voracek did it back to show him that it's a no-no.  They literally made a headline about it because it wasn't typical.  Otherwise it wouldn't be a headline.

That event actually got Gibson jacked up post game, since he thought Voracek was dissing him.    I'm seriously surprised someone with some whiskers (Getzlaf, Fowler, Henrique) doesn't take him aside and tell him to knock off the non-hockey crap.  He got great skill, but he's a bit of a clown show with his smirk and smack antics.

Both totals are pretty high. I’m old enough to remember him jumping 5’9” Brian Rafalski in the 2009 playoffs after the game ended and punching him bare-fisted in the head while Rafalski was turtled on his knees with one glove still on. Pears is actually a major part of the hockey culture you’ve been railing against  in these threads. As was our 2007 Cup team. And both WCF teams that Kesler was on.

The elbow to the head of a young Claude Giroux comes to mind.  Perry was rat dirty in a sneaky kind of way, but the players knew his antics.  When he won the Hart in 2011, he didn't win the best player award (Ted Lindsay) as voted by his peers...Daniel Sedin did.

Except by using the phrase "show someone up," you're implying that it's wrong.  Zegras wasn't "show[ing] someone up" by trying to score a goal in a 5-0 hockey game.  That's absurd.

Yes, there have been plenty of examples - some is just players saying how much he talks (all the time) and more concrete examples (the shootout goal he scored against Columbus I think?).  Whether you think Tyson Nash is an idiot or not, I completely believe him in his interview when he says Zegras was chirping all game.  His celebration where he puts his hand out and beckons to the crowd for adulation in a road arena is borderline taunting as well.

I hate that stuff.  Talk to your teammates; leave the other team alone.  Be humble.  Celebrate with your team, not by yourself.  While I agree with you that a crosscheck isn't an appropriate response to that, you can see how Zegras incites that kind of response.  It's the defense's job to move a guy from the crease.  It's a lot more likely that moving is going to take place in a violent fashion when the guy has been talking all game long.

In relation to the point above, Zegras was totally within his rights to dig for a loose puck in the third period of a 5-0 game.  I'm glad he's doing that.  But he has to know that if he's going to piddle people off all game, that sort of thing is going to get met with a crosscheck in the neck.  That doesn't make the crosscheck right, but until the culture of the NHL changes, it's going to happen.  Corey Perry knew it and invited it and withstood it.  Perry was a big guy who could handle himself in those scrums.  Zegras isn't built quite the same way, so he's going to have to get smarter.

You're arguing with yourself at this point.  We disagree.  That said, I'm truly sorry Terry got waxxed.

  9. 7 hours ago, Gorbachav55 said:

I couldn't disagree more on the bolded. Zegras' job is to score. Eakins wants him out there digging for loose pucks and trying to put them in the net. This is the NHL. Players are getting paid too much money to have their feelings hurt by opponents playing hard for the entire game. A 5-0 game is hardly crazy for teams to continue to work on things, especially a team that is on an 11-game losing streak.

Beagle committed a penalty with that crosscheck. Zegras committed no penalty. There's no question who is in the wrong. I would also prefer if Zegras were more humble, particularly in regards to the trash talk. But I'm glad he's in there trying to score every time he's on the ice. That's what we want him to do.

we disagree then.  It's not right or wrong.  It's game management.  Show someone up today, pay tomorrow.

Why does he need to be flattened?  He's doing his job.  The defense's job is to move him or tie up his stick.  If what the player is doing is a penalty (goaltender interference or something else), then he should be called for it.  If it's not a penalty, then it's the defense's job to stop it legally.  No one needs to get flattened.  That mindset leads to crosschecks to the neck, which means guys have to come hold the crosschecker accountable, which apparently gives that guy license to destroy someone's face.  All of it is unnecessary if what the offensive player is doing is legal.

It's understanding the score and game situation.  There was no need to be digging at the goalies pads in a 5-0 game that's winding down.  Eakins could have been playing his bottom six for most of the remainder of a "meaningless" game. At 5-0, it's pretty much game over.  Zegras annoys the opponents with his smirks and smack.  Unfortunately somebody else had to respond to his getting crosschecked.  I've said it before, the skill is great, but I wish he'd act more like a humble rookie.  Zegras being crosschecked is a normal opposition response to what he was doing in the crease.  It wasn't a violent crosscheck either.  Garden variety minor.  I don't blame Beagle for that.  It's not an unusual play.  The linesmen were alseep at the switch when Beagle lost his mind on Terry.  Beagle should have backed off after the first punch when Terry didn't drop his gloves.  This Ducks team is soft at this moment in time.  Someone needs to be on the roster to offer protection.  It's unreasonable to expect a middleweight like Carrick to bear that burden.

I wouldn't read too much into it.  He's 19 and has played a handful of games in Sweden.  Dostal and EE are much closer.

The trade deadline talking heads announced Verbeek was listening to offers for Gibson.  The off season makes more sense since Gibson is under contact.  Trading Gibson at the peak might still be a good play.

There's a prospect as well, although Pittsburgh's prospect pool is abysmal, so it's not going to be great return either way.  Poulin is probably the only one who moves the needle.  I was hoping for more, but it looks like there just wasn't a great market for depth scoring forwards.

Saw that was added to TSN later.  Clang is a great goalie name.

Adding a goalie makes me believe something could happen to Gibson in the off season.  Apparently GMPV was listening to offers.

    Rakell to Pittsburg

For a second rounder.  The other players returning are UFAs.

thought Rakell would have brought more return.

  14. 7 minutes ago, gotchabari said:

So, we're basically now on Rakell watch, with an outside chance of Getz and Kumkwat?  Is that about it?

IMO, Getz stays if he wants.  The one team legacy and the rafters.

I would move Raks for something.  A couple of high draft picks.  I would hope a first and a third.  He's not a centerpiece, but could offer secondary scoring.

  15. 7 minutes ago, gotchabari said:

I don't see anyone posting about DLo going to Minny for a third.  Done deal.

Sounds low.  I was thinking someone needed am enforcer and would have paid a second.  Guess not.

A third rounder is a good return for Des.  Hagg, $1.6m defensemen just went to Florida for a 6th rounder this morning.

I hope they re-sign him to a short term deal in the off season.

Good for Hampus getting his pay day.  He was not gonna get that in ANA.

Contract is front loaded.  5 year NMC, last three years NTC at a lower Cap hit.

He wasn't going to get that in Anaheim.  Makes buying him out or trading him easier if production drops.

lol. Who’s “we”? I’ve been arguing all along that the comps for Lindholm were the likes of Parayko, Puloch, Ekholm, and yes, Cam Fowler.

Its ridiculous that he’s now gone because the organization wasn’t willing to match Fowler’s contract for Lindholm.

The 8 year term was the hangup, and I think the smarter GMs are recognizing the fallout potential for the extra long terms - much like NMCs no longer being offered except in rare cases.  Hampus is a very good number two defensemen.  I like the trade.

facepalm trade We get 2 fourth-line guys nobody wants. A 2 goals per season 31 year old.

A first, two seconds, and a former first round Draft pick prospect for a guy you weren’t going to overpay to sign.  The facepalm is in Boston.

Funny if it's true. Weren't we discussing the possibility he could sign for 8 mil with some saying 9+?

$8-9 million for Lindholm x 8?  Ugh…..overpayment.   $6.5 million for 5-6 would my idea of his value.  In 8 years he will be 36.   Years 7 and 8 will be less productive.  I’m appauld GMPV for walking away.   He got a good return in assets.

I hope they offer ND20 a contract in the off-season if the price is right, 1-2 years, $1.2m.  Paid protection who can take a shift.

Well, i'm excited to see him under a new coach entirely....and a new system. I hope he does well.

But retaining 50% salary....man...thats the only thing that bugs me. It really doesn't hurt us...but i feel like we could have gotten something a little sweeter for doing that...at 50% the cost...this a steal for the Avs. Anyone would take 50% the cost Manson.

That was just a paper game to help Colorado under the cap.  It will cost the Ducks a little under $500K since salary is prorated and there are 20 games left (less than a quarter of the season).

Manson is an offensive minded defenseman forced into a SAH spot...imo that was more what was going on with his issues since Yawney left.

But I mean, it's mostly for Drew Helleson...so, I mean, exciting to see what he could turn into!

Manson fits better as a third pairing guy.  I look at him as a number 5, who can take top four minutes when pressed.  When he plays too many minutes, he turns into a turnover machine.   He'll do well in Colorado.  He might even get some hardware with that group.  He'll probably slot in for MacDermid.

I think he was a GMBM favorite.  That connection is gone.
