  1. I'm not sure who stays or goes, but slipping out of the playoff picture is a positive development.  Like GM Verbeek commented, you can't let guys leave for nothing.   If the Ducks were truly competitive, there would be a tendency to keep UFA assets for a playoff run.

Getz can help mature the young guys. Also, if he's enjoying playing...why leave? He loves the Ducks. He's said as much. And he also said he has no desire to chase for another cup and I'm sure he's doing fine financially (i hope). If he's happy playing with the young guys -- like he looked in the first half of the season -- ...why WOULDN'T he come back? I don't think he's suffering. He's a future HOFer who has accomplished basically everything he has set out to do and plays the game he loves in a small market team by the beach and great weather with a future face of the NHL player. He's not suffering.

I do wonder with a new GM, Getz just puts in his own head it's time to leave. Like he had a good relationship with BM. He also said he would do whatever it meant to help the ducks. He'd waive his NMC if Bob could get something worthy in return. He cares about this franchise. I think a lot of people project their own -- valid -- frustrations with this team on Getz and assume he feels the same. But I just don't think he does. The only thing I feel unsure about is if he just feels "it's time" 'cause of the changing of the guard.

...i do need to listen to that podcast someone mentioned where Getz sounded like he was done....that may change my tune completely lol

Lindholm, Gibson, Rakell...I actually understand their desire to leave a lot more. Even if the first 2 I'd be very unhappy about.

I don't see Getzlaf getting moved.  He would be the only Ducks jersey hanging in the rafters who played exclusively for the Ducks.  That is a serious accomplishment.

oh wow....I didn't realize this thread got so dark and depressing so fast!

Man I'd hate to see Getz retire...i really think he has so much left and like...he just needs a better team around him...

Also, why does Lindholm want to test free agency? Anyone know? Is it the coach? Is it the team? Is he unhappy? Man, fire Dallas before losing Lindholm....

Looks like we'll be in the Bedard sweepstakes at this point lol

I would expect Lindholm to say he is testing the market.  It gives him more leverage in negotiations.   And I think Getzlaf is about done.  Mother time is not friendly.

  4. Verbeek was a scrappy guy. Brought it every night.  Not the biggest guy around, but very hard working, and would drop the gloves as needed.

He’s not in the HHOF, but really should be IMO.  500+ goals, almost 3000 PIM, over 1400 games, over 1000 points.  Has a SC Ring….

They played maybe their best defensive game of the season on Wednesday night, then played one of their worst last night. It happens, I won't be getting too upset over one game.

Agreed.  Their stinking up the place against an underwhelming opponent could be a positive in the long run.  All teams and players have bad games.  You can't take any opponent for granted.

3 more teams have games postponed through Christmas now (Anaheim obviously caught up in that too since they were meant to play Calgary next week). They have also postponed the Montreal-Boston game that was to be played tomorrow, and it sounds like more Boston games will be postponed. So at this rate there might be quite a few games to catch up on come February.

At this point I don't see them going to the Olympics.

I think the players are having serious doubts with the long Olympic quarantines.  I believe the end result is they wont participate.

Eric Stephens had this in The Athletic today: https://theathletic.com/3003417/2021/12/07/after-a-do-it-or-else-conversation-the-ducks-are-getting-the-best-from-sonny-milano-its-amazing-now/

I like watching Milano a lot.  There's the great chemistry with Zegras, obviously, and his forechecking tenacity is off the charts.  He's still a bit lost in his own half of the ice, but it seems like the effort is there.  His hands and vision are great. I could see him sticking around with the team, but I'm curious what kind of contract he'll get.  I don't think he's going to put up 70 points - he'll slump eventually - but he could legitimately have a 25-goal, 60-point campaign.  Having had no previous season even close to that, what is he worth?  Do the Ducks bank on his chemistry with Zegras and trust that he'll continue to produce beside a star center?  And you hate to even bring it up, but the concussion issues could always rear their ugly head.

Zegras looks like he can play with anyone, so I wouldn't be incredibly concerned about finding wingers who work alongside him.  But I do like the thought of keeping Milano around.  If you sign Milano for three or four years at $3.5 - $4 million per year, is that a risk worth taking?  I think I do it.

The other interesting angle in that Stephens' piece is the role of coaching.  My take on Eakins is that I like him as a guy but think he's out of his depth as an NHL coach.  He's obviously getting results this year, and his handling of Milano has worked out well.  How much credit does he get for giving Milano an ultimatum and figuring out how to use him?  I think there's a lot of luck to that move, and I do think the additional assistants have had a ton of influence on the trajectory of the team.  But Eakins has to get some credit.  I'm just not sure how much.  And does it mean he's sticking around after this year?

Make an extra effort (keep your emails) if you ever want to cancel the subscription at THE ATHLETIC.  Numerous complaints on the Better Business Bureau website.

Agree with your assessment on Eakins.  Eakins is more suited to coaching in the AHL IMO.

    Did you get your tickets?

Now that my family is completely vaccinated, I'd love to take them to a game.  As big a fan as I am of the Ducks, we don't go to many games due to the cost and our general busy-ness.  But the team is exciting, we've got a little bit of extra money, and it's been a couple years since I've been to a game.

We're looking to go to next Friday's game against Arizona (Star Wars night!).  Ideally, I'd like to splurge and get something down low in the arena.  Those tickets are incredibly expensive, but my kids have never sat down there to see a game (they're 11, 13, and 15).  However, I'm also fine with getting seats higher up if getting a good deal on lower seats isn't an option.

Any recommendations?  I've only ever used Stubhub for secondary market tickets, but I know there are dozens of ticket agencies out there.  I just don't know which ones are good or reputable.  I usually play it safe and get tickets through the official website, but that means no savings.  Any pointers are welcome on places to go or the timing of purchase.  Thanks!

SeatGeek is worth a look.  If you can wait closer to game-time, prices drop as people try to get something, rather than nothing for their tickets.  The app has a venue arena map and you can surf the prices for the different sections.  You do better mid week, and against an opponent that doesn't have a following fan base (Chicago, Detroit, Las Vegas) or teams close by (San Jose, LA).  If you sit in the lower bowl, you will have a better view from higher up the section.  The first few rows are good view, but only for the area of ice you are closest too.  The glass can obscure the view.  Personally, I like being higher up in the corners (e.g., 218, 204)

Also check your email.  There was flash sale sent out by the Ducks for the next day and a half.

He's also the best player in baseball.  If Zegras overtakes McDavid for the best player in hockey, I'm down with signing him to a record contract.

I’m not sure that comment applies today, although it was on target (Trout) when the contract was signed.

Zegras has elite talent…McDavid has generational talent.  The closest thing to McDavid is McKinnon.   Extreme skill at full speed.

That doesn't mean he's wrong about Murray.  I don't feel like we've seen many glowing reports about Murray's amicability.  He's always struck me as overly harsh in his public comments about players.

Whitney feelings are his.  He might even be on target with those comments.  Murray used to hang out in the defense end zones.  He wasn't a people person (from my personal observations).

    Whitney still sucked.

If he turns into Theo 2.0, I can't wait for everyone to say how they always liked him and it was stupid to leave him unprotected.

If Seattle takes ONLY Fleury, that would be pretty good on GMBM's part.  If he then also signs Hakanpaa in FA, then we basically would have lost no one in the ED.  Heads would explode.

I wouldn’t doubt it if GMBM acquired Fluery from Carolina knowing he would expose him in a prearranged deal with Ron Francis.

yeah honestly, I have nothing against ND, fine to have him and let him play less minutes........maybe don't put him out there when we need to score a goal to tie it in the final minutes.........

It's just more there truly was no risk of him getting plucked. So I' think im on the same side as a couple others here that it was more of a show to FrenchyD that his work ethic etc.... is appreciated. Probably 'cause it doesn't matter who is protected since there will be a deal.

No doubt his ED protection has a message.  I too doubt he would have been selected, but he's a useful energy player, and offers a degree of protection for younger skill players.  He can actually play a shift too without being too much of a liability.

All I can say is that this GM couldn't organize a game of cards.  The "Ducks" that we knew are not going to be any sort of team with this guy making the moves.

    It's really disheartening.

    Delauriers?  Seriously?

I’m ok with ND getting protected.  At least he’s useful.
