  1. So the NHL approved the Coyotes move to Utah.  Arizona  to explore expansion team??  I see all our young talent and the last thing I want to see is it being vulched by another expansion.  We fans earned all this young talent by enduring mostly terrible hockey over the last several years.

I just thought of something. Didn’t they put a new rule in place that said if you win the lottery, you aren’t allowed to win it again for 4 or so year after? I bring this up because I will piddleed if Chicago gets it again.

    prepare to be piddled

You hit the three issues on the head.

    1) No leadership. This team has no captain because nobody is capable of being a captain and leading. I see nobody on this roster who should be named captain. Right now my top pick is Leo Carlsson for captain as he seems to be the only one who cares night in and night out.

    2) Coaching. Cronin is a terrible NHL coach. Never has any idea why his team loses every night, even though us fans can see the same issues every single game so not sure why he can't. Doesn't understand that his system doesn't work, but continues to push it on the players even though it is a complete disaster. Doesn't change anything. Cronin is Eakins 2.0, good AHL coach but will not be capable to get it down in the big show.

    3) GM. Verbeek has shown the past couple of years that he is in over his head. From questionable trades (more so questionable returns on guys he should have got more for), terrible waiver moves both placing guys on waivers and picking guys up, questionable moves for not picking certain guys off waiver (Tuolvainen would look way better out there then Johnston), and awful contracts handed out in free agency to terrible coaching hires, not making moves when he should, and lame excuses for keeping guys on too long (Eakins needs more time to be evaluated), Verbeek is just as much of an issue as anything. And now the whole he might move Zegras as well. A team that is strapped for offense should be keeping their offensive players. He is the one responsible for the players on the roster and the refusal to bring up anyone from San Diego. He has stated he doesn't care about wins/losses in pro sports where wins is all that matters. He also stated last year he expected that team to be a .500 team despite how awful they were before the season even started. Even the Gauthier trade is questionable. That trade should have easily been one for one and I don't think there was a need for a 2nd round pick as well.

How to fix this team? Start with owners that care. Fire the GM and bring in someone that knows what they are doing. Bring in a respectable coach. And move out the useless players off the roster. Guys like Strome and Vatrano should be nowhere above the third line and guys like Silfverberg and Carrick should be nowhere near powerplay minutes.

This. Start with owners that care.

  4. First reaction shock.  Second reaction, something needs to change in a big way because this team is an absolute mess right now.  First domino to fall?  I'm all for some sort of change because this team is a rudderless ship atm.

I don't think any of us would have guessed 6-4-0.  A 6 game winning streak that included handing the existing SC champs their first loss of the season -  also not on the bingo card.    Pleasantly surprised.

    7-4-0 with a 6 game win streak.

I don't know about y'all, but I'm pumped about the New-And Improved Ducks! For the first time, in a long time, I think we have a very balanced team. Great chemistry with all of our lines, and promising defense pairings. We just keep finding ways to win, lately, and really hoping we make the playoffs this season. Y'all liking the direction of the team? Obviously, it's tough not to, when we're winning. I know some had some doubts about the GM and coach. But I think the direction we're going is great. Not to mention, the Ducks were ranked #1 in NHL pipeline rankings for 2023, and so we'll be good for a while. Exciting times for Ducks fans! Have a great rest of the week, all. Peace.

    our future is very bright

At this point you should not be surprised.  Many fans think that GMPV makes decisions off the top of his head or pulling them outta his ass.  No plan, no research, no collaboration.  Just winging it.

    "Why'd you draft that guy?!?"

    "Why'd you offer that contract?!?"

    "Why'd you hire that coach?!?"

    Armchair GM's it's comical.

Hagg is 6'2" 204lbs. Wilson is 6'4" 220lbs and is an absolute monster. Hagg still went after him when Wilson took a run at Giroux and he landed the first three punches of the scrap before Wilson got the upper hand. Hagg is not a great fighter, and he had zero chance of hanging in with Tom Wilson, but at least he stood up for his teammate. We need some of that.

We need a LOT of that.  Florida bullied it's way through the playoffs until Vegas put them in their place.  When you have a guy like Zegras, you sure as hell better have players that will step up to the plate when he runs his mouth.

lol.  SoCal is a great place to live, and our tax burden isn't huge in the scheme of things, especially if you have a decent tax atty to help manage your assets.  the only people who focus on tax issues are people hoping players will be gullible enough to choose Dehydrated Donkey Dungholes like FL and TX over the rest of the NHL.

nah you don't bring your politics much to this board roflmao

Just sign Tatar already. I’d much rather not sign Dumba. At this point I’d rather get looks at Helleson and Lacombe, then you have Zellweger and Mintyukov in the wings. Dumba probably raises the floor, and not having him makes the team worse, I would rather be a little worse and play the kids.

I agree with you on one hand because we have so may promising Dmen in the wings but on the other hand we need to start building a winning mentality sooner than later.  I don't think the organization could endure another season like that last one with it's fan base.

Just watched NHL Network's special on the "Re-draft" off the 2003 draft.  Pretty fun to watch if you can find it on replay. Mike Rupp and Booce are the hockey guys on the three-person panel.

Anyway, if you made a team with the Top 30 or so guys in their redraft, it would look like this*:

    Zach Parise/Patrice Bergeron/Joe Pavelski

    Thomas Vanek/Ryan Getzlaf/Corey Perry

    Mike Richards/Eric Staal/Jeff Carter

    Louie Eriksson/Ryan Kesler/Dustin Brown

    David Backes/Nathan Horton

    Shea Weber/Brent Burns

    Ryan Suter/Dustin Byfuglien

    Brent Seabrook/Dion Phaneuf

    Braydon Coburn/Tobias Enstrom

    Marc-Andre Fleury

    Corey Crawford

    Jaroslav Halak

    * I just put guys in the order they were ranked in the re-draft (Bergeron was the #1 C {and #1 OA}, Weber the highest ranked D, etc.) and didn't worry about handedness or C's/W's, just tried to be the "coach" of the lineup.  Btw, Getzlaf was 4th OA and Perry 6th.  And Kesler 14th.

That's nuts.  I don't know who your "Dream Team" in their prime would be, but I'd take that group.

Getzlaf&Perry and Burns&Pavelski alone are two DEADLY duos.

That team is so skilled, so competitive, so big, so mean... holy cow.

Booce said Getzlaf is the best Captain he ever had, and he loves Perry, Getzlaf, and Kesler.

    What an amazing draft class.

As much as we think Terry would want to go to Colorado, the Avs will not give him anything close to what Anaheim will. The closest Terry will get to the Rocky Mountains is if he signs with the Coyotes and they move to Utah. I like Terry and everything but he's only had two productive seasons and last season he had a very long goal less streak.

If Terry had better players around him I believe he would be even better.  Terry was easily our best player at creating chances last year and many times the only one.

Switching back to Gudas, here's a blurb from yesterday's newspaper:

"Gudas ranked second in the NHL with 312 hits, only six behind defenseman Luke Schenn of Toronto, in 2022-23.  That was nearly 100 more than the Ducks' leader in that department - defenseman Simon Benoit (216).  The only other Anaheim player with more than 100 hits last season was Max Jones (110)."

(For that reason I LIKED Benoit - although I, uhh, seem to be his ONLY fan here...)

He always seemed out of position to me.

My biggest issue with Myatovic is upside. I think you should draft for upside, I think getting bottom six wingers is easy, but they picked a lot of upside with every other pick. Im very happy for the most part.

Madden basically calls him a roll player to support top line players.  Really don't get taking a guy like that at #33.

Yegor Sidorov #114.ep described him as the most improved player in the WHL, 40 goals and 76 pts in 53 games, lots of nhl habits, he’s an ankle breaker, potent shot, elusive and creative. His knock is he’s overly patient sometimes and takes too many low danger shots.

Low danger shots ring a bell.....Etem.

I think it was more : "Thank you guys for going to the two worst teams in the league" so he could go to Columbus and play with Johnny Hockey, Patrik Laine and Boone Jenner. In his draft interview he was all smiles. Much more animated than over the weekend when asked how he felt about the Ducks.

    He'll regret it eventually.

lol.  we absolutely need another scorer.

I would argue we need more help on defense than offense, but we need more scoring too.  I was really hoping for Fantilli but if Carlsson is close in ability to Fantilli but he's a better 2-way player...maybe it works out for us.  Time will tell I suppose.
