Last game vs St Louis in the two periods I watched, which involved 6 goals against, more then half of them were two on ones or breakaway goals. The goalie has next to no chance if they have to come across on a 2 on 1 and try to make a save. Gibson wasnt to blame for the majority of the goals against. Then there was another one that hit Benoit, then the Blues forward and into the net. By the way, how many goals have gone in off of Benoit standing close to the crease and gone in. It seems coming on a shot missing the net that it hits him and bounces in.

It's painfully obvious to anyone with a clue that we have ZERO defense.  Any team with a defense like ours is going to have goalies with a crap save %.

Absolutely. He just HAS to nail that 1st point I think. I'm not saying he needs to find the next Scotty Bowman but he can't get someone we are frustrated with and fire a season or two down the line. It's gotta be someone that works with the team style wise and being in good systems play, not whatever we currently have. And it better not be Randy, who will say he's learned something new... again.

Agree he does have to nail the first point.  Curious though as to who everyone thinks would be a good fit to coach this current Ducks team?

The east is going to be incredible to watch. Already amazing storylines....

Boston - fastest team to ever get to 100 pts. Made a bunch of moves already paying off. Will get presidents trophy. Presidents trophy curse?

Carolina - got PoolParty...didn't do much though. They are solid and coached really well! But not much has changed.

NJ - Looks terrifying on F. Not much expectation, but they are scary.

Toronto - oh man...toronto...they went all-in like they never have before. What a TDL. And all this to get out of the 1st round. Is that enough for them with these moves? Do they see losing in the 2nd round as progress?

TB - 3x Stanley Cup finalists with 2 cups. Rooting for Perry. made some great moves. They are really just as difficult to face as before. This opening round series of TB vs TOR is gonna be INSANE. I hope it goes 7.

NYR - I mean...Kane and Tarasenko...this team got some big names and were already a scary team. This NYR vs NJ series is gonna be epic, too!

Now for the wild card...Pittsburgh probably makes it in. And then it's really between Buffalo, Ottawa, and Detroit for that final spot and it's gonna be fun to see them all fight for it! I'm rooting for Buffalo.

    ...and then the west....lolz

like....the playoffs are basically set. Calgary aint getting in lol like....we have Colorado who will be a threat even with injuries. But like...Dallas Minnesota and Winnipeg from the central? lol Dallas is just on the first-year Deboer high...Minnesota has Klingberg but i don't think they really have much...i mean...Vegas I guess is scary...LA is kinda scary but still...Seattle didn't do anything...Edmonton will be interesting to see if Ekholm gives them some stability on the blue line.

    Anyway my hot takes:

Buffalo is gonna sweep Boston. Toronto is getting out of the 1st round. NJ will beat the NYR in the first round. leading the way for Carolina to come out on top in the East. And Dallas will somehow make it to the finals...Carolina wins.

Obviously anything can happen come playoff time but I really like Boston's chances this year.  Easily the one team that made our team look like elementary school kids when we played them back in January.

I'd honestly clean house from top to bottom after the season and how awful acquisitions and lack of any fixes has been. GM fired, coaching staff fired. Let's start new with a competent GM and a coaching staff of their choice. Or if this is acceptable to the Samueli's, then sell the team to someone who cares.

this is crazy...i saw someone post on twitter that this organization gets all the picks, drafts poorly, develops poorly, then the players that do develop well they trade or want out....what is this perpetual bottom dwelling system they have going on here????

If they get Bedard....i can't imagine why he'd want to be on this team.

agree, but we're not much of an upgrade at this point sadly

The deadline is going to be a letdown. Better faith in the draft lottery at this point to salvage this season. So yeah, we’re boned.

And Chicago, Columbus, San Jose all moving pieces to make their team weaker presently to naturally help their tank whereas Ducks nothing, winning games here and there.  Exasperating.  Hey I like seeing the boys win but this year has been such a disaster we needed to just let it go.

I think Verbeek initially wanted to see more immediate improvement this season when he first took the job, but it's likely the summer didn't go as well as he had hoped in terms of building out a competitive roster. We know he tried hard to get Niederreiter (who would have been a top-6 winger here) in mid-July, and if he was after Niederreiter then chances are pretty good that he was also chasing some other higher end talent (or else the Strome and Vatrano signings wouldn't have really made much sense either for a team that was tanking from the start). We'll probably never know all the names that Verbeek wanted to get last summer, but the Klingberg signing on July 29th and the Kulikov trade on August 31 should have been a signal to everyone that they were not going to be chasing a playoff spot this season. No team with playoff aspirations is waiting until that late in the summer to add two top-4 defenders, especially when those two top-4 defenders are on expiring contracts and have significant value at the trade deadline. That's the kind of move a GM makes when he knows his team can't make the playoffs, but he's feeling pressure to keep the fans interested. It's no different than what Chicago did by signing top-6 forwards in Domi and Athanasiou. Chicago was just a little more straight forward with their fans regarding their management's expectations for this season.

The big question now is, how soon can we fill in the blank spaces in this roster to become a playoff team again:

    _______ - Zegras - Terry

    _______ - McTavish - Strome

    Vatrano - Lundestrom - _______

    _______ - _________ - ________

    Fowler - ________

    _______ - Drysdale

    _______ - _________

    Gibson, Dostal

We are so soft right now and for me that's the hardest part to watch.  I think Buffalo spent 90% of the first period (maybe more!) in our end.  I know it's a re-build and I keep telling myself to give GMPV time but you would think we would have moved past Eakins at the very least by now.

I was a SSH from 1993-2010, and I wouldn't pay a nickel to attend and watch a Ducks game now with this coaching and GM.  Sad what this team has become.

Hey my good friend and I almost mirrored your time as SSH, 1993-2015 coming from Temecula.  The length of time it took to get home due to 91 construction finally took its toll.

I do insist.  Not getting vaccinated for anything other than valid medical reasons was a selfish, foolish choice.  I'm a relatively young ("relatively" is doing a lot of work there), healthy person as well.  I didn't get vaccinated for me.  I got vaccinated for everyone else and any personal benefit is a bonus.

Unless there was a pre-existing medical condition that indicated the vaccination might give him issues, there was no reason not to get it other than "I don't want to," which is basically how toddlers act.

"Smart" is not the word I'd use" (who cares what word you would use).  The words that YOU would use mean squat or deciding what is right or wrong for other individuals is NOT your decision it's theirs.  What YOU think is pretty much the age old adage of "opinions are like &*#hole's everyone's got one".  Know it all's like you kill me, you have the answer for everything.  If people don't agree with you, then they are this they are that.  I got the vaccine, even though you would believe because I support someone who didn't get vaccinated it means I didn't get it either.  YOU'RE WRONG.  You think you never are but assure you that you can be and likely are more than you think.  Since I was vaccinated, I have come to believe that most of what was said about the vaccine and the effectiveness of the vaccine was horse dung.  Simple as that and I don't care a rat's a$$ what you think.  And I still commend Bertuzzi for standing up to people like YOU.  You are muted to me in 3...2...1 (I suggest you do the same for me).

"Smart" is not the word I'd use.  But I'm glad we have examples like him to show us the evils of getting a jab in the arm to slow the spread of a debilitating virus.  I'm sure he'd be a paragon of leadership in the locker room.

Because whether you choose to get a "jab" determines leadership roflmao.  Whatever dude.  The lamb that led the other lambs to slaughter, I guess, was a good leader.

Oh God, not Bertuzzi.  The ONLY player in the entire league who refused to get vaccinated.  I realize that's not something likely to be relevant in the future, but it shows selfishness.  Like Kyrie Irving in the NBA.  Not to mention his Uncle was also a douche.

Because the vaccine prevented Covid?  Bertuzzi is looking like the smart one.  Love the fact he stood up to the masses. and their hysteria.

In what way?  He didn't stop anyone from taking runs at guys.  I'd argue that NO ONE really does that any more.  Unless you've got a big, beefy team full of guys who can hit, players are going to take runs.  Enforcers don't do anything like they used to in the 80s and 90s.  They just fill a spot on your roster with a player who can't score.

The guy who hit Zegras would have done that with or without Deslauriers in the lineup.

Well.....I've seen a lot of people leave this board over the last few years.  Add me to the list.  You know-it-alls and you know who you are...can talk to yourselves all season again.  Laters!  Go Ducks.

The only person who can protect you from hits like that is yourself.

Head up, don't cut back to the middle in traffic, keep your hands and your stick high when you see somebody coming to run you.

lol it's not about protecting him from the hit, it's knowing you have to answer for it afterwards....shouldn't have to explain that actually.

Did you not see the umpteen fights that just happened?

but...you didn't answer my question.  Who's our enforcer?  I actually don't know if we brought someone in.  I hope the answer isn't Carrick because if it is we could have a lot of guys get hit like Z did tonight all year long.
