There can only be one, and once Getzlaf decides to hang ‘em up, we’re gonna need a new one. Is our future captain currently on our roster? Who do you think it should be?

    Zegras? Terry? TBD?

Terry, great kid, humble and well spoken.

well, first off, not what I said. Never said he wanted to stay in Anaheim. I said there's nothing to imply he wanted out of Anaheim.

Not sure what you think these quotes are proving...'cause, again........

Lindholm did NOT choose Boston OVER Anaheim. Pat Verbeek CHOSE Boston to trade Lindholm OVER offering Lindholm the term he wanted.

THEN (key word, this happened next)

Lindholm had the option to sign an extension for the term he wanted. And he had that offer ONLY with the Bruins. And his quotes here were about that extension (which is interesting that it was difficult for him to sign) and how much he wants to play in the playoffs and how fun Boston is specifically. I don't think any current Duck would disagree with him!

NONE of this happens if Pat Verbeek offers Lindholm an 8-year contract. Boston NEVER even enters the conversation. Lindholm would have signed it. And he'd still be a Duck.

There's a lot between wanting to stay in Anaheim and wanting out. He clearly wasn't dedicated and committed to staying here under any cost (nor should he be) but he certainly wasn't itching to leave.

what do you mean the man didn't want to be in Anaheim anymore? Based off of what? I don't understand this assumption. Based off of his quotes and actions there is nothing that even implies he wanted out.

Lindholm didn't pick Boston over Anaheim. Lindholm didn't have a say in who he got traded to. All he wanted was an 8-year extension. He said as much. He would take less money to have 8 years. He said that exactly. If Anaheim offered him the 8 years...he would have taken it. The ONLY reason he didn't re-sign in Anaheim was 'cause he wasn't offered the term he wanted.

Whether or not that the was the right call by GMPV remains to be seen and we shall see how it plays out. But this is all Pat VerBeek.

The only player I have seen show any comment about NOT wanting to be here...is Gibson. And it wasn't explicit but it was implied. Literally every single player seems to want to stay here. Rico didn't waive his NTC. Did you see how excited Drysdale got when he got picked by us? It may seem shocking to us...but I think most (if not all minus Gibson) wants to be here.

you're right he wanted to stay in Anaheim.   Sometimes you have to take off the "home-er" glasses.

The 28-year-old defenseman met with Boston reporters for the first time Sunday in a Zoom video call. He explained why signing a lengthy extension with the Bruins was the right decision for him.

"For me, that was a tough decision, Lindholm said. "It's not easy to extend your career that long in a place you haven't lived. But for me, I go on a (gut) feeling, and the team itself is a great team and they always have -- Boston as a city and a team always has that winning mindset. They find ways to get in the mix.

"That's somewhere I always want to be. I love playing in the playoffs. I've missed it the last few years (in Anaheim).

He spoke at length about his emotions upon joining his new team.

“I felt good. I love that feeling,” Lindholm said. “A little butterflies, a little nervous getting out there. That’s why you play the game. The fans here are unbelievable. I have to say thank you to them for supporting the whole game. It was so loud out there. It makes it more fun to play.

  4. Just look at the roster of Boston.  If you're Hamp....where would you want to be playing?  The man didn't want to be in Anaheim anymore.  Can you blame him?  We can point the finger at BM, Eakins, Beek but the finger should be pointed at ownership.  Quit trying to save a buck all the time and maybe we wouldn't be where we are now.  Think Robert Kraft vs. Alex Spanos.  Ownership means everything.

I bet Gibby is thinking same thing , hope he and TT go somewhere that can win.😂

Well he's not wrong.  Teams like Boston, Pittsburgh seem to always stay relevant.  I've always believed a good owner makes or breaks a franchise.  Think Robert Kraft vs. Alex Spanos.

After the Chiarot deal and given all the teams that could use a d-man like Lindholm for the postseason, that would be a huge failure, and I don't see it happening.  A second rounder and a B prospect is exactly what the Ducks got for Manson, and Lindholm is healthier, far better, doesn't have any sort of no-trade list, and he's not much more expensive.

As I said above, I think Verbeek is going to get two assets, either a first or second rounder, and either an A or B prospect.  If he gets a second rounder, he'll get an A prospect.  If he gets a first rounder, the prospect probably won't be quite as good.  And he'll probably get another low round pick as well, although I could see this being moved to another team to grease the skids, which I'm ok with.

What makes you think he'll get the same deal for Lindholm that he got for Manson?

yes but the closer we get to the deadline the lesser you are likely to get eventually falling to zero the day after.  If Lindholm is going....the deal should have already been made.

But who's going to maintain some quality in D while heading towards being a threat?  It's not like they won't be in the playoffs sooner than they are going to be a real threat.  You need someone for that.

And even a skill-dropping Lindy would still be a good second pairing when we do get to our peak.

Have we really seen any quality D on this team the past few years?  Wonder how Gibby would answer that lol.

Do we need to draft a stud though? You look at the 07 cup team...and we didn't draft most of those studs: Pronger, Scotty, Giguere, Selanne.... sure we drafted Getz/Perry...but we drafted them the same year we went to game 7 in the finals...so clearly making the playoffs didn't impact us drafting studs...

I'm just saying it's not necessary. It can help, sure...just not necessary.

You can give BM criticism for not being a big time trader. Trades that probably don't work out more than do. But this is the Beek we're talking about here...he has yet to show what kind of GM he is. So far so good though imo. What he's accomplished with letting Nonis go shows he sees the game correctly

Hey!  You left out Penner lol.

Don't think Sustr has anything to do with Shatt but......watching Shatt last night I can't wait for the day he is gone.  I know he added some punch to our O early on but he is an absolute defensive nightmare turnover machine.

I normally don't put much stock in the Fourth Period (they're almost always wrong about everything), but it was interesting to hear that Rakell has switched agents and that he and Lindholm are both now represented by Claude Lemieux. Those two guys really are attached at the hip. Sad to say, but it seems pretty likely that Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are both destined to be ex-Ducks within the next few weeks.

Based on Getzlaf's interview with Friedman and Marek a few weeks ago, he sounds like he's likely done after this season too. I think this team is going to look completely different next season. Verbeek is going to have a pretty long shopping list this summer - top-pair D-man, 2C, top-6 RW, head coach, (starting goalie?!?!). Yikes.

Yea after last night's game looks like we are going to be sellers at the trade deadline.  I will hate to see Hamp go as it feels like he'll be leaving right when he's set to be playing his best hockey.  Time will tell I suppose.  I won't miss Rakell.  Seems like the boys haven't reacted well to our GM hiring thus far.  Love Getz, his number will be in the rafters one day but he has been a terrible turnover machine of late.  Re-build stage 2 incoming?

  11. So much fun watching this team play right now.  So many players playing well and with enthusiasm.   I'm going to give a shout out to guy who does a lot of little things and he's been a career AHL'er....Sam Carrick....well done.

Maybe. Or we get to see McTavish-Groulx-Carrick as the 4th line? I don't think Grant is a lock yet for that 4C spot with Groulx and Steel still in camp.

I also still don't understand the hype for Milano. His game looks like a cross between Emerson Etem and Jiri Sekac to me. There are certainly tools there, but also giant holes. And 22 career goals by age 25 doesn't make me think we'll miss him.

    Bingo!

My son found this on reddit....  It would be funny, if it were not so true

This is going to sound like sour grapes from a Boston fan but I don't give a Dehydrated Donkey Dung.

Ritchie is one of the worst players I've seen in a Bruins sweater in a long time. He routinely made me question what it meant to be a Boston fan, he tested my patience and my ability to root for my boys on a routine basis.

I can excuse a lot, that's what sports fandom is, right? It's a place to be biased and petty and stupid in a safe little sandbox of biased petty stupidity. But suck me sideways Thick Dick Nick made it a chore. I can handle guys lacking talent but playing with heart, I can handle a lack of heart in crazy talented guys, I can handle the staggering room temperature milk mediocrity of guys like Lee Stempniak, but Thick Dick Nick is none of those things.

He plays the game like someone trying to egg you on into taking a swing at him. He skates with the urgency of an old lady shopping for canned beats, but with half the speed. His hockey IQ is on par with Brett Favre's. I'm assuming Brett Farve has never played hockey, correct me if I'm wrong. Nick constantly skates around like he's surprised he's at an NHL game and then glides back to the bench (probably from the penalty box for a stick infraction) with the dim look of Lenny from Of Mice and Men. Then he sits there like a melting chocolate Santa, with his hair inexplicably sticking up through the vent in his helmet, waiting to be surprised by his next turn to get on the ice.

Consider this: He scored 15 goals last year, found some dangerous ice as a PP scorer, and Bruins fans were debating if he would be a good 4th liner or not this year, because our 4th line was that fraking bad, and Ritchie was the only skater who could conceivably make it worse. He scored 15 goals for us and we weren't sure if he would be a good replacement for Chris fraking Wagner, the surly hobbit of the TD garden.

Nick Ritchie is a bigger contributor to the decline in cardiovascular health in Boston fans than smoking and obesity. He's the equivalent of a double bacon cheeseburger on your system. He is hockey diarrhea. The guy takes the stupidest retaliatory penalties you've ever seen. He is complete invisible until you need a momentum swing, goes "Got ya boss" and cross checks someone in the neck and bumbles off the ice like Abbott and/or Costello while simultaneously shrugging and bitching to the refs and the guy he blindsided.

I'm sure he's not a bad guy IRL, I don't mean for this to be a character assassination. I'm sure he has family and besides Brett they probably don't suck. This isn't about kicking a player on their way out; let the record reflect that every Boston fan has a few memories of cursing his name and that we started kicking him long before he was down. (See also the general well wishes for Kuraly upon his departure.)

Nick isn't a goon, he's a bad boyfriend. He'll score a couple of goals one week and you'll think he's turned a corner and then he'll hit on one of your friends and tell you to chill out because he's just being friendly. Don't buy the hype, be fraking aware.

I am ecstatic that Ritchie wasn't held onto as a sunk cost, and that Toronto signed him. There you go, that's your analysis.

This is so funny.  "Nick Ritchie is a bigger contributor to the decline in cardiovascular health in Boston fans than smoking and obesity."
