Did you mean something else?
You said earlier Verbeek got desperate to get Zegras signed because Killorn got injured. I’m saying they have nothing to do with each other.

I listened to the Friedman Drysdale piece, and I think it’s pretty basic. Drysdale feels like he’s already given something back to the Ducks by not playing in those 2 games (a loss of a year closer to arbitration rights ), so he’s a bit miffed that the Ducks aren’t being more generous with his contract. Kind of the expectation of, “I gave here so you give here” kind of thing. Friedman also goes on to say Drysdale doesn’t want this to become some big thing, seemingly understanding that it’s just part of the business but he’s frustrated by it. This is where the talk goes with the whole, “sometimes the team has the hammer, and sometimes the player does.”
Overall, it doesn’t seem like a big thing.

Then why wasn't this done months ago instead of half way through camp after Killorn is injured? I'm not about to give some kind of praise to Verbeek.
Because months ago Zegras wasn’t willing to sign at the number the Ducks wanted him to, and it took this long for both parties to finally be willing to agree on something. The Killorn injury has nothing to do with this; the Ducks aren’t supposed to be any good this season and he’s not even going to miss that many games. There was no rush to get Zegras signed because they need him with Killorn out. Not everything is some connect the dots conspiracy.

That’s 2/2 for Verbeek/organization on contract negotiations. I’m glad all the doom-posting with Zegras is over now; ya’ll need to chill out lol. Next up is Drysdale, but really the only question will be when it happens vs what the contract implications are. I don’t see how Drysdale gets anything of note.

He’ll miss about 7 games if it’s 4 weeks and about 13 if it’s 6. Not a big deal as long as it heals properly.

We lucked out and only 2 games this year will be exclusive to ESPN+ and Hulu. 1 game on TNT. 79 games on Bally sports and all will be available in San Diego as well.
One benefit to being bad and not expected to do well is ESPN+/Hulu aren’t poaching a bunch of our games and keeping them off local TV.

no wonder they don’t have any beat reporters now. Can’t ask management tough questions if there isn’t anyone to ask them
Our beat writers rarely asked tough questions to begin with lol

With Zegras and Drysdale set to miss time in training camp, it’s just painfully ironic that Verbeek overpaid to get Gudas and Killorn because he wanted them to instill good habits and a winning culture in the locker room, then didn’t sign two of the most important players to instill those values into
Gudas is here for 3 years, and Killorn for 4. There will be plenty of time for that when they eventually sign.

My top 3 players in this game were Carlsson, Dionicio, and Sidorov. Mintyukov had his best game as well. I’m really happy for Sidorov getting that goal because he probably put himself in good chances to score the most out of everyone in the roster during the tournament. Carlsson continues to look really solid; he brought it consistently in each game he played, and in all 3 zones.
Even Bombay’s punching bag (Myatovic) had some really nice moments. He was a big factor in the 1st goal when he picked off a pass in the defensive zone, got the puck in on the forecheck and separated it from the Kings player leading to the goal. He had a really nice play finding a player wide open in the slot for a dangerous scoring chance. It’ll be interesting to see who makes a big leap this year out of Pitre, Myatovic and Terrance. Hopefully all 3.

People really need to stop posting “rumors” from nonsense sources/websites on here. If it’s not coming from the usual, more well-known places then 99.9999% of the time it’s garbage. I can live missing out on .0001% situation where the rando actually knew something.

Sidorov’s had some nice chances/shots. Would love to see him get a goal, but I like that he’s putting himself in good spots.

Awful penalty to take by Zellweger.

Mintyukov post and then goal. 5 on 3 goal though.

Great sequence by Zellweger there. Too bad Sidorov couldn’t finish it off.

Could really use a save for Clang. Ducks have by far been the better team.
Ask and you shall receive.

Luneau looks awesome in the offensive zone. Goal #2 for him.

Pitre best Duck in the 2nd period.

Great play by Gaucher to pick off a pass and set Sidorov up with a great chance at the end of the period.

Carlsson sweet dangles and off the post.

Nobody signing Zegras? A thought provoking article...
I think this is a good thing for fans. Wage suppression is also a good thing in a sport with a salary cap. Never having to worry about another team trying to poach your young stars, and being able to sign them as cheap as possible means a team that drafts well and manages their contracts/salary cap well can remain a cup competitor for a long time. That’s ultimately what fans should want.

The jury is still out on the bolded as far as I’m concerned. Maybe getting Carlsson will make the Lindholm/Rakell trades and last season’s tank job all worthwhile, but I still feel like there’s a good argument to be made that the bleeding could have been stopped right when Verbeek was hired. Instead, Verbeek just kept right on digging, and apparently his plan to get the team out of the even deeper hole that he’s created is to pay Killorn $6.25M until age 37 and Gudas $4M until age 35 while lowballing the team’s young stars.
I think his plan is to build a core through the draft and the young players already here when he got the job. The next step will be to supplement that core through trades/signings. I think he feels good about his offensive core since they’ve been around for a few years, but this year will be all about evaluating which ones of Mintyukov, LaCombe, Zellweger, Drysdale, and possibly Helleson take steps to belonging in that defensive core. That’s going to be one of the most important aspects of this season; if these guys struggle then the Ducks are even further away from turning things around. Gudas and Killorn don’t really have anything to do with that. They aren’t here to dig the Ducks out of a hole; that’s the job for the upcoming core players to do. You need some veteran leadership, and Gudas especially fills a need as a RD. As far as lowballing the young guys, so far he’s 1/1 with the Terry contract. Time will tell how well he does with Zegras and Drysdale.
-
And yet, even after that Kucherov ended up signing an 8 year extension to remain in Tampa. Should Zegras end up signing late like that, I hope the people that inevitably end up freaking out over potential “bad feelings” between him and the team remember this.
-
Helleson isn’t beating out Drysdale or Gudas, so the last spot comes down to him or Lyubushkin. I think some crazy stuff has to happen for Helleson to get that spot right out of training camp. Helleson should be in San Diego and 1st in line to come up to replace one of those 3 guys for whatever reason comes up.

A CBJ beat writer said on a podcast right after the draft that he heard from people he trusts that Carlsson was Jarmo’s guy, and when he got taken #2 he had to be talked out of taking Smith over Fantilli.
