Z now leads all rookies in assists....and is 1 back from tying for most points...

Even if he does pass Raymond in pts, Raymond is getting all the love right now as the favorite...but the season is still young!

Raymond started with a roar but Zegras has gotten better as the season has gone...I honestly think Zegras could finish 20 points ahead of Raymond. That may be crazy but I think he's already that good.

Hampus has been much better than Doughty for several seasons now. The only reason Doughty got 11 million is that his name is Drew Doughty and he WAS very good.
    Seth Jones - 9.5 for 8 years

    Charlie McAvoy - 9.5 for 8

    Darnell Nurse - 9.25 for 8

    Miro Heiskanen - 8.4 for 8

    Adam Fox - 9.5 for 7

    Dougie Hamilton - 9 for 7

    Jacob Trouba - 8 for 6

    Zach Werenski - 9.6 for 8

    Cale Makar - 9 for 8

I think Hampus is better than at least 3-4 of those guys. He’s gonna get paid if that what he wants

I know this is not a common opinion here, but I don't think Hampus is going to get money in the same ballpark as these guys in UFA. He just doesn't score at the same rate as the players on this list. He's just not going to score more than 30-35 points in an 82 game season. His career high is 34 points, 6 years ago.

In the last 3 seasons the only players on that list that have scored at less than 0.5 points per game are Heiskanen (0.46 per game) and Trouba (0.47 per game). And Heiskanen was given that deal based on what they think his future production will be - he's only 22 so they anticipated his scoring would increase. With Hampus he's already developed, he's not going to get any better. Over the last 3 seasons Lindholm has scored at 0.38 points per game. So the closest player is Trouba, and he's paid at $8M per year. That would be the absolute maximum for Hampus IMO, and would be a bit of an overpay.

...sigh...I really didn't want to believe it was BM....man..... frak that....i bet it was Bob too for why Gibson started against Nashville and not Freddie....

No doubt. Which basically cost us that series as Gibby was average in the first 2 games. Andersen was the guy at that point.

The Angels “shafted” Mike Trout early in his career by renewing his contract without his consent which was perfectly legal under the CBA. He signed two big extensions with them despite the franchise being crap for most of his career. The Ducks manipulating service time will not even be a factor if Zegras wants to stay or go. The vast majority of the time players take the big bag of money when it’s offered to them, and when they don’t it’s not because, “they kept me from reaching UFA 1 year earlier. Screw them!” It won’t have any impact on how much it costs the Ducks to keep him either; that’ll be determined by all the other traditional factors.

The GM from when the team "shafted" Zegras is also no longer here. Just blame it on him. I don't think it will be an issue.

I wouldn't be surprised by anything under $9 million with Lindholm.  With most teams locking up their young, first-time eligible UFA d-men, he's going to be the premier guy on the market.  I'm sure there are a few teams with a bunch of money earmarked for defense and they're going to spend it.  Hampus stands to gain a lot from that, even if he's not worth it based on his scoring history.  I'd be shocked if he got less than $7 million.

I think $7.5M per season is probably about right for Hampus. If he wants over $8M the Ducks probably let him walk.

Yes, but when you're the boss, where is the line between being a grump and being so surly and vindictive toward the people who report to you that you cause them emotional anguish (i.e. being a bully)?  Is this a thing where there are a ton of little incidents that have added up?  Or did he do something that finally crossed a line?  Or has he been crossing lines for years and someone finally reported it?

There's too much unknown at this point to say.

My girlfriend's boss was fired for a pattern of bullying behavior over the course of many years. Basically she would just pick people she didn't like and make fun of them, blow her lid when they asked for time off, things like that. Essentially creating a hostile work environment, making people's lives hell. Eventually enough people complained that HR did a full investigation and finally got rid of her. So it could be something like that as opposed to one or two big incidents.

Was just listening to the new spittin chiclets podcast today. Ryan Whitney was talking about Bob Murray and how mean and vindictive he was to certain people. The hockey gods fired him for us. Hoping this doesn’t effect the good hockey we’ve been playing this year.

Ryan Whitney also goes out of his way to defend Dave Portnoy, who is a known POS.

There are too many a-holes in this world.

I'm extremely curious what unprofessional behavior is.  I think everyone's minds are heading towards sexual due to recent events, but maybe not?

Well I mean, we know he threw a chair at somebody once, right? So we know he's got a temper at least, so could have physically assaulted somebody. But you're right, it could be something along the lines of embezzlement. Probably not a good idea to speculate though.

Edit: Says the guy that just speculated about different fireable offenses...

I would say it's byebye Bob.  They wouldn't have placed him on Admin time off unless the charges were credible AND likely to lead to dismissal.

Agreed, based on the Ducks statement ("upon recommendation of their initial findings"), I can't see him getting his job back. It seems like they already know whatever happened was grounds for dismissal, they are just waiting for the final report.

I guess now we also know for sure that Solomon was likely brought in to take over from Murray at the end of this season, since he is now the one in charge.

After letting this trade simmer a bit, I can't help but wonder if Buffalo's hot start to the season changed the game for Adams. With Tuch and Krebs, you're talking about players who should be expected to contribute in significant ways within the next 5 months. If Adams believes his team needs to win sooner, then it makes more sense that he went with a more NHL-ready trade package. Calgary and Anaheim seemed to be heavily skewed towards futures in the proposed offers that were being thrown around. Like for Anaheim, many were speculating a last/best offer would be a 2022 1st (top-2 protected) + Lundestrom + Perreault + LaCombe + 2023 2nd. I honestly think that package provides better assets for a rebuild than what Buffalo got from Vegas. But that package from Anaheim probably makes more sense to Adams if his teams start this season 1-5-3 rather than 5-3-1. Adams is looking for talent to build around for the future, but he's also gotta be anxious for a major culture shift in the organization, so getting a player like Tuch that can help the team win more games this season had to be pretty enticing. He probably felt he owed it to the players to add given how hard they've played to start this season.

Edit: I should also add, I think the player Adams wanted from Anaheim was Terry. Terry's hot start to this season probably made it impossible for GMBM to move him though. That likely killed any deal with Buffalo, not any demand for Zegras.

We might be kinda lucky this deal didn't go through in the summer. I absolutely would have moved Terry in the summer but I would be more hesitant to do so now, as it seems like he has finally turned that corner.

Perps choose their victims based on a number of different criteria, conscious or subconsciously recognized. Lonerism is a big one. Socially separated (self-imposed or not) is another.

I don't listen on a regular basis, but on Spittin' Chicklets they were talking about how for the black aces the playoffs are basically just 2 months of partying. The black aces tend to stick together outside of the rink, and the roster players stick together. So when Beach says none of his teammates wanted to have dinner with him, he is likely just talking about the black aces - and it is entirely possible they were all just too hungover and wanted a night in. Lol. So I don't know if we can read anything into the fact that he couldn't find anyone to go to dinner with that night.

I was a bit off when I wrote $3.5M, but they're only above the floor because Mittelstadt and Jokiharju are on IR, which means they're counting 25 players against their cap instead of 23. When Mittelstadt and Jokiharju come off IR then they'll have to move two more players down and they'll be under the cap. A healthy roster there is under the cap floor. The only way they can stay above the floor with their current roster is by using IR. Further, this really presents a problem for moving their UFAs later in the season. Nearly all of their D-men except for Dahlin are pending UFAs and you'd have to think they'd like to move them for assets. Hovering at the cap floor will make that tough because they'll have to take equivalent money back in any deal.

They could go the Arizona route and add bad contracts along with first round draft picks. Though I'm not sure how many teams would be looking to do this during the season.

The Stars could be in cap trouble if Bishop ever becomes healthy. They could ship him to Buffalo with a pick just go get rid of him.

I would say the Sabres should trade for Skinner's terrible contract but uh...

  13. There is going to be a chance to pry some players out of Vegas prior to the trade deadline. With everyone healthy they are more than $7M over the cap, and all of their players on LTIR, including Eichel, are expected to be back by March.

They certainly aren't operating from a position of strength. I hope the other GMs bend them over.

Maybe we can bring back Karlsson or Theodore. Lol

  14. I take any of these lists with a grain of salt, they are always so subjective and tend to pander to bigger and eastern markets.

Marner and Pettersson in the top 20 seems kind ridiculous when both have started the season so poorly. Also, McAvoy in the top 25 players in the league? LMAO.

well, Eichel has no interest in that....surgery and all....i was thinking the same thing, but it seems like he wants out despite a good or bad team at this point

I think one of the reasons he wants out is that he doesn't trust the medical staff there. The team playing well doesn't really change that. There's zero chance he plays another game for that franchise.

Mostly, I'm impressed with the fight in this team.  They got demolished in the first period of the Vegas game, and were down 4-1 in the third only to come back and tie.  That's a very positive sign.

If they can just figure out how to get Comtois back on track, I'll be very satisfied with the beginning of the season, despite the record.

This is what I'm most pleased about too. The effort has been there, and for the most part the team has (or tried to) outwork the opposition. There have been a flew blips (e.g. the first period against Vegas) but overall I'm very happy with their fight. They've been right in every game because of this, even against teams that have a clearly better roster.
