To be fair, GMBM is no stranger to conditions being added to his trades: https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/ducks. And considering how cautious he usually is with trades and how much he tends to over-value his own prospects, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to finding the right mix of pieces and conditions here. I think it's far more likely that Bob can't get a deal done because he's too stubborn to part with player X or pick Y than it would be for him to overpay with unprotected assets. He's just not an aggressive GM who takes a lot of risks.

I think it is quite incredible that only THREE players on the opening night roster came to the team via trade (Henrique, Silf, Deslauries).

I've heard that, and certainly Lebrun is no doctor, but here's what he says in that piece:

So I'm not sure which number is accurate.  It's possible the four month figure factors in time for a new team's doctors to examine him and prepare him for surgery as well as extended rehab time afterward, but I'm not sure.

    Just from some light googling:

    https://www.spine.md/artificial-disc-replacement/artificial-disc-replacement-recovery-time/#:~:text=On average%2C artificial disc replacement,for up to 3 months.

    Quote

On average, artificial disc replacement recovery time takes about 3-5 weeks; however, artificial disc replacement recovery time varies from patient to patient. Many patients can return to light activities and desk work within 1 week, but a few may not be at full activity level for up to 3 months.

So I guess it depends on the person, but I would think that for an elite athlete his recovery time would be on the shorter end of the scale.

I also still don't understand the hype for Milano. His game looks like a cross between Emerson Etem and Jiri Sekac to me. There are certainly tools there, but also giant holes. And 22 career goals by age 25 doesn't make me think we'll miss him.

It's more about the asset management. In this case at least we didn't give up anything decent for Miano. Volkov on the other hand, Murray gives up Morand and a pick to get him, and then waives him 6 months later.

Kuemper's 31 y/o and only has one season left on his contract. Gibson is 28 and is locked up for 6 more seasons. I would have to think Gibby brings back more than Kuemper in a trade.

I also can't really see Gibby moving at the deadline, but if Lindholm doesn't re-sign then I could easily see Gibby traded next summer. There will be several teams in their "Cup window" who may need a top tier netminder too. Edmonton obviously. Dallas. Possibly Colorado if they don't re-sign Kuemper. Maybe Philly if Carter Hart doesn't bounce back. Chicago if they think they have another run in Kane/Toews and don't want to rely on a 38-year-old MAF. In other words, heavy hitters in the NHL. Gibby could also raise his stock with a solid performance in Beijing.

I didn't realise Kuemper is already in his 30s....I thought he was younger for some reason. Probably because he's only played 242 games over 10 seasons....dude can't stay healthy.

I've never seen a team in hockey make giving up a 2-3 goal lead look so common.

It's incredible at just how bad of a coach Dallas Eakins is and he's still getting work.

He never won anything in the AHL and is a pathetic 83-126-12 in the NHL.

To be fair, Eakins has only been given crappy rosters in the NHL.

I still think he's a bad coach but he also hasn't been given a ton to work with.

Each time I write some constructive criticism about Fowler, a few JoeSchmos (either his blind die-heart fans or some relatives) put HAHA face under my comment. Doesn't matter, I repeat again: he DOES NOT play to his expectations. Good luck trading him, though.

I don't really know if posting 'Fowler is soft, he should be traded' in every single topic is really 'constructive criticism'.

About Gibson. For some reason several fans on this forum believe that teams will line up for him. I did my own search about a week ago and found that 26 of 32 teams already have established #1 goalie. The other 6, they have OK goaltenders with reasonable save % and GAA but on much smaller contract than Gibson's. Edmonton and New Jersey may or may not be interested, I am not sure.

So, even if Gibson will demand a trade, I don't know if it's a good market for him right now.

He needs to have an outstanding season to increase his trade value.

Yeah, the time to trade a starting goalie in the offseason is when free agency opens. You can look at the Kuemper trade to see the return - Arizona got a 1st, a 3rd and a bottom pair defenseman. So it's not like the return is that amazing anyway.

What could be interesting is if a team like Edmonton felt they needed goaltending help at the trade deadline to win a cup. If Mike Smith hasn't played well enough (which, let's be honest, is entirely possible considering his age) they could make a move at the deadline for that last piece. Or if a contending team loses their goaltender to injury for the rest of the year, they could take a run at Gibson at the deadline.

Last season 9th worst goals against in the league.  if last night is any indication of what this season is about, why not trade all the veterans for talented youth.  Might as well get real about the 800 lb gorilla in the room.  #NoExcuses #NoRegrets #ShowSomeFrickentPride #Embarrassment

I have to believe we are going to see a lot of vets moved out as the season progresses. Manson, Getzlaf, Rakell and Deslauries are obvious rental candidates at the trade deadline as they will be UFA at the end of the year. I'm guessing they want to keep Lindholm but we will see how that goes. They will be hoping for decent performances from Silf and Henrique so that they increase their trade value.

Tank hard this season, move out the vets, add another good piece at the draft (possibly even Shane Wright but let's not get our hopes up). Then next offseason with a new GM, new coach and tons of cap space start building the team back up again.

Agreed. My guess is that the Ducks have 10 forwards locked in for the Big Club - Zegras, Getzlaf, Comtois, Rakell, Henrique, Terry, Lundestrom, Silfverberg, Jones, and Milano. So about 7 guys still are vying for 3-4 forward spots, with McTavish, Deslauriers, Grant, Carrick, Groulx, Steel, Volkov, all still on the camp roster. Only Groulx and McTavish don't require waivers to be sent down, so we'll see more of this in the next few days. My guess is that they'll waive Carrick and send him down with Groulx and Volkov and then start with 14 forwards, but it'll be interesting if someone like Steel or Grant ends up on waivers instead.

I'm certain this is what will happen. They definitely have Grant, Deslauries and Steel penciled into the lineup for whatever reason. That leaves one spot for McTavish to get 9 games before going back to Juniors, then we will see Groulx get his chance.

  10. Obviously Eichel has to get moved at this point. The bridges have been burned with Buffalo. But from their point of view, they are worried that if he gets this 'experimental' surgery and comes back as half the player, then his trade value has tanked. BUT no teams are going to give up the equivalent of 4 first rounders for a guy that is hurt either. So they are really stuck between a rock and a hard place. That's why they are letting teams see his medical information now. There is basically no current market for a guy with this kind of question mark hanging over his head. They are just trying to wait him out - they are thinking (hoping) he will change his mind and get the 'safer' surgery'. But at some point they are just going to have to let him get the surgery he wants and then trade him. He has no trade value right now anyway, so why not try and increase his value by letting him get the surgery.

  11. I'll never get used to seeing him in a different sweater.

I have to wonder what the response would be from Anaheim if that happened to Gibby. Take Sam Bennett off the Christmas card list?

Honestly, I think Seattle could sneak into that third spot.  Maybe that's just the Vegas PTSD talking, but they could be not terrible.  And "not terrible" is all you need to be to get into the playoffs in the Pacific.  Unfortunately, the Ducks don't qualify.

The problem for Seattle is that their forwards are so bad. I think they are going to compete with Anaheim for the worst offensive team in the league.

I'm not sure where to put this: It's an article on NBC Sports about the kings - they mention the pacific division and don't mention the ducks as being part of it - that's what happens when the team is terrible and don't make ANY changes from one bad season to the next.  They are going to be bad again I guess.  What's the point/

    PACIFIC MATTERS

The Kings are back in the Pacific Division, which includes four teams that did not make the playoffs as well as expansion Seattle. Vegas and Edmonton are the class of the division, but the final automatic playoff berth could be a scramble between the Kings, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks.

The Ducks are the only team not in contention for the final playoff berth lol.

Lots of 'experts' picking the Kings to finish 3rd in the Pacific. I mean, all of these teams are pretty bad so it could be any of them as it's probably the easiest path to the playoffs in the entire league. But my pick is Calgary.

I don't see any takers for Gibson, at least not this season.

Edmonton would take him, without question. It's just a matter of being able to fit him under the cap. Most other teams have their goalies sorted for this season, but if any contending team has an injury to their top goalie this could create more of a market. There's no rush for Anaheim on this one.

Smart money is on Steel.  Look at all the C's they will have - Getzlaf, Henrique, Zegras, Lundestrom, Grant, Steel.  And then look at the LW - Comtois, Jones, Deslauriers, Volkov, Milano, Rieder, (I think Rakell will start the season at RW because Silf will be on IR) possibly, depending on who is at C, one of Grant, Lundestrom, Steel, Henrique.

If Rieder is in the lineup, either Volkov or Steel - or both - will not be.

10 spots filled - Getzlaf, Henrique, Zegras, Grant, Lundestrom, Rakell, Comtois, Terry, Jones, Deslauriers

    1 - guy on IR - Silf

4 guys for two spots - Steel, Volkov, Milano, Rieder (5 if you count Robinson, but I think he is most likely headed to SD).

I had no idea Silf was starting the season on IR. How long is he supposed to be out?

I guess we’ll see. I ratted out a few people last season who weren’t masking to the ushers and the ushers didn’t hesitate to ultimatum the scofflaws (i.e. wear it or leave).  I think we may find the staff being pretty aggressive about it over the first couple of games.

    What a snitch.

    Hahaha

  17. I don't get why anybody is surprised about this. The last thing the team wants is another season with no fans because this thing is running rampant. They're playing their part to try and keep cases low. If we see a variant of this thing that is even worse than the current variants, we could see more restrictions regarding capacity, which ultimately affects the team's bottom line. I don't think this is anything but a business decision.

Re: children under 12, are Pfizer far away from releasing data on this age group? I can't remember but I think they said they would have this data by the end of the year? In that case they only have to miss games for a couple of months before they can get vaccinated. Doesn't seem like a big deal.

The info is on the Honda Center website. Proof of vax required (or negative test 72 hrs prior to event) and goes into effect Sept. 20.

Fair enough IMO, they want to be able to fill the stadiums all season long, and if there are tons of outbreaks linked back to games this could affect capacity restrictions, which affects their bottom line. Seems reasonable.

I was planning a trip to Anaheim for October to see some games but with the travel restrictions currently in place between the USA and Canada I think I will have to cancel unfortunately. The pre-departure test is the sticking point. The likelihood is low, but I can't afford to be stuck in the US for 2 additional weeks at the end of my trip if I happen to test positive right before my flight back to Canada. It sucks but it is what it is. All you peeps in Anaheim should just be grateful to get to go to games, even if there are extra requirements to get in.

man I got so excited when this off-season started with new assistant coaches....

I'm excited to see how Z and Drysdale improve and whatever other prospects come up and show what they've got. And I'm very curious to see how much, if at all, off last season was for Rico and Silfv and Rakell and others. What a potentially healthy Lindholm and Manson could be (fingers crossed) with the new assistants. And how Comtois continues to grow.

I'd still be excited for Eichel (with proper assets staying here, obviously). I think he'll be fine after the surgery and he'll like living in SoCal and playing with someone like Z.

I don't think BM thinks this is a playoff team at all. But I do think he thinks he's built a young team he wants to see grow and also is REALLY waiting to do anything till Eichel is resolved.

Training camp must start in less than 2 weeks and I cannot remember ever being less excited about the start of Ducks hockey.
