  1. None of the trade deadline deals netted 2023 picks.
  2. somehow somewhere in Halifax, he is ready to bring a postive spin on all this.
  3. horrible returns. big fail.
  4. I think it's situational too. If the Ducks had forwards making salaries of Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Zucker, then we would also see many of our bottom 6 in the AHL. i do think it's time for guys like Comtois to move on. It's not a great trade but also not bad if McGinn sees a new opportunity in Anaheim. He was a decent hard checking bottom 6 in carolina.
  5. you would think that he's a better player than Comtois though. it's not a bad trade considering McGinn has two more years left in his contract. im surprised kulikov was able to pull a 3rd + a non-UFA roster player
  6. The Coyotes cap position is completely against what Bettman has warned before deadline. The roster who's actually on the ice covers $43M in cap space, while all dead cap/LTIR (players who will never set foot in the state of Arizona)/cap retention make up the remaining $30M or so. Mind you the cap floor is like $58M. What a way to circumvent the cap on a full tank mission.
  7. Quick traded to Vegas. Would that not be something to see Quick having to start for Vegas for some strange circumstance and knock out the Kings in a first rd matchup.
  8. Agreed with the big win for the Kings on the move. Just always surprised to see then a franchise legend gets traded out of nowhere. I certainly didn't expect this. It was obvious the Kings needed to add a goalie for a deep playoff push, but certainly would have assumed Quick would have still be in the fold.
  9. Am i hearing this right? Quick traded to the Jackets for Gavrikov and Korpisalo? Very surprising move by Blake.
  10. The proposed scenario makes sense any year and I would have agreed with you not even an hour ago, until you see what Tampa gave up for Jeannot. Klingberg for a 1st rd pick is not out of the question next week. Especially if the Oilers can't make Karlsson happen. I'll take the wait and see approach 😜
  11. The eastern playoffs will be fun to watch!! The first round matchups of leafs v lightning and devils v rangers will be a treat for neutrals.
  12. Expect Draft picks, salary retention, bottom 6 roster players, and mid-tiered prospects. Anything more than that is unlikely. Ducks are not in the position to attain quality players who can contribute, and I doubt that's Verbeeks direction. He's rebuilding. I would be in the position to want to finish bottom 2. Once you draft Bedard or Fantili, sign Z/Drysdale/Terry, then you will see more impactful moves being made. But between now and then, don't expect much.
  13. That's an interesting thought. Something to consider for sure.
  14. The rumor is Kane to the Rangers pretty much done per sources, but looking to finalize cap issue with a third team. I can bet you the Ducks are involved to broker this deal. This is a massive trade for the Rangers, and I think they'll be desperate enough to give up more that just a 5th rounder for a third team to help get this done.
  15. Unfortunately players like Kane will never waive his clause to be traded to Anaheim. And to your question on Toews, his contract ends in 2 months. To me it seems no different than a regular LTIR issue. He's not going to decide to retire with 2 months left in the season if he think he can come back.
  16. Wow that's incredible. This is one of the deepest draft pool in a long time. They can rebuild and draft good players, or flip a couple of those picks for actual solid assets over the summer for a quick retool.
  17. I mentioned on another thread but with the cap being tight this year for playoff bound teams, Ducks should take advantage and be a 3rd participant on cap retention type deals if it relates to trades for expiring rental players. Minnesota basically got a 4th rd pick for helping blues and leafs by retaining a portion of o'riellys cap hit.
  18. Very interesting trade with O'Rielly to the Leafs. Minnesota stepped in to retain a portion of his cap hit to make it work for Blues and Leafs, for a 4th rd pick. With cap space being tight this trade deadline I think Verbeek should look at being a 3rd participant in these types of cap retention deals (for rental deals only) and accumulate a good number of draft picks.
  19. I've made the realization at the 10 game mark that I'll watch the dumpster fire ensue, and just pray for the draft lottery to go our way. If we stay the course and end up with Bedard or Fantili, I will just erase the 2022-2023 season from the history books and move forward. My hope through this dumpster fire was for Z and McTavish to get points for statistics, which at least is happening. I am actually very surprised there are 2 teams worse than us at this point of the season....well at least surprised by the Jackets with the Laine-Gaudreau hype during the offseason.
  20. for a goalie who is 16-3 and in a playoff position, his GAA and save % isn't that impressive. the kings play an incredibly structured game and allow one of the fewest shots per game. his stats tells me the team in front of him probably only allows 25 shots a game and he allows about 2-3 despite the tight defensive structure. I'm going to tell that Gibson would likely be closer to 2.3 GAA and 92% with the kings. You underestimate the toll it takes on your mental and physical fatigue to be bombarded 40-50 shots a same. Eventually once you allow 40 consistently the precise focus to save the next shot likely diminishes due to fatigue.
  21. I saw Dostal got called up this morning. Haven't heard any news on injuries to Gibson or Stolarz. Not sure if I'm reading too much into it but could there be something brewing? Maybe we'll face Gibby on Wednesday in a Buffalo sweater.
  22. I'm surprised we're 50+ games into the season and we've opened up a new thread to discuss how soft we are. They have been soft for years. Just ask Gibson and the pounding he's received for 4 years in his own crease.
  23. Bedard has been prolific on the right wing though. That's where he played in the world juniors with Shane Wright in center, and he played on the wing with McTavish centering last year. Adam Fantili actually is the true natural center. He played on the wing early in the worlds largely because of the center depth Canada had, but he struggled. He was back in form when they moved him back to center later in the tournament. I can see Zegras being the second line center if we end up with Bedard, with McTavish centering the first line.
  24. Seeing this team makes me think we're now a few years off from being good. I thought during the off-season that maybe one more subpar year, but doesn't seem to be the case anymore. But to be honest, seeing Bedard dominate the WHL as a 17 year old has me salivating though for long term success. If he dominates the junior worlds in a few weeks, we can hopefully get something to be excited about after several awful years--albeit number 1 pick is not guaranteed. Penguins and Hawks have won 3 titles with the core after horrendous consecutive seasons. Wish the turnaround would happen next year with Bedard in the picture, but agree that there's a lot of work to be done to get this team to be an 80-85 point team.
