  1. Palat - 4 yrs 23M (unfortunately 4 yrs bc i dont think Palat signs if it's 3 yrs) Ryan Strome - 3 yrs 15M Dylan Stome - 4 yrs 15M I could live with those contracts. gives us 3 players with 15-20 goal potential. we'll have a couple veterans with cup experience and deep playoff runs. Keeps us within a solid budget to look ahead to Zegras and Drysdale's future contract. And likely gets us to the cap floor after signing Lundestrom, Benoit, and Vakkanainen
  2. also to add that Gibson has the 2nd highest cap hit. They're so far off from the cap floor, I can't see them moving him before the season.
  3. ....they'll keep Kucherov or Stamkos in LTIR until the playoffs starting in 2023
  4. Probably related to actual salaries and not cap. I'm guessing Weber will still be paid $3m this year despite being in LTIR? Not sure how the insurance works if he's retiring bc of injury. By trading away Weber, Montreal is getting rid of the salary obligation, which a wealthy ownership group like Vegas doesn't care paying as long as they can build their cup winning roster. The city of Las Vegas is all about going big and winning, with no care of spending. Montreal wouldn't just take on Dadonov's salary if the deal didn't include getting rid of Weber's salary. It's win-win...one team gets cap space, the other team gets a pretty good player. I am surprised though that Vegas didn't ask for a pick to take on the salary dump. That's a miss by Vegas mgmt in my opinion.
  5. Looking forward to the statue that will be built in front of Honda Center for a great former Duck. Joking aside....Vegas pretty much cleared $5M of cap space since I'm assuming Weber goes straight to LTIR for the rest of his career?
  6. I understand he wasn't all-star caliber, but he was only 19. He has incredible mobility and his physicality for someone his size will only get better over time---I prefer his willingness to get dirty over Fowler over the past decade. His hockey sense on the PP as a 19 year old is incredibly important for a team that has struggled for years. His hockey IQ on the rush as a 19 year old is also incredibly impressive. I'm struggling hard to see why we shouldn't invest in a player like him.
  7. It'll probably be something like Gibson + 1st rd (10th pick)+3rd rd pick for Fiala+cheap roster player+ Talbot. Minnesota gets a goalie that can get them deep in the playoffs (at cheap 6.4M for starting goalie), and gets to dump salary by moving Talbot and not re-signing Fiala. I dont think they're necessarily looking for prospects or addnl roster player back bc of their cap situation, and the fact they have Rossi and Boldy already. By no means am I saying we should trade Gibson. Just presenting a realistic scenario to getting Fiala.
  8. Ignore this question. I see now that in his age group he completely dominated over the rest of the field.
  9. Is there anyone here who follows the OHL closely? I've noticed looking at stats (while following McT stats) that Shane Wright pretty much went quiet in the playoffs. Also seeing that he's not that high in OHL stat. What's the reason he's considered the unanimous number 1 pick?
  10. He would be an upgrade over Rakell from a compete level perspective. I have always felt that Rakells great puck handling focus of his game never really translated well in playoff hockey (evidenced by his poor game 7 performance against the Rangers last week). Fiala hustles hard and is really relentless in his forechecking game. I admit he had a bad series against the Blues as well, but i see more upside with his style if playing with Z or McT .
  11. Nice thanks for sharing. Do they also wear the visors unusually high ? ....that's one thing about Nic i oddly remember.
  12. If you developed/drafted Vasilevsky, Kucherov, and Sergachev you would certainly not be averse to signing Russians.
  13. I didn't realize the cap nightmare Minnesota was in with Parise and Suter making up $14M of the cap the next 3 seasons. With Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi moving up to be franchise players the next couple seasons, there's no way Minnesota can hold onto their current roster . I think Verbeek should take a serious run at trading for Fiala's RFA rights during the draft. Would be great to see a hustling forechecker with scoring skills playing alongside Z.
  14. the fact you call Helleson and Vaakanainen two "4th line players" makes me guess you have not done your research. odd thing to say about two young defensemen, especially one who just completed his college season.
  15. it sure is a good "3 year term" at the end of his contract. verbeek likely focused mainly on his young guys and upcoming picks that he can control. still, even with an 8 year deal it's not like the deal handcuffs boston down the line. it's still a contract that looks enticing for a trade 6 years from now.
  16. my guess it's not so much about the 6.5m average cap hit but what would have been offered at 5 years. Hampus will be making $38m the first 5 years in his 8 year deal. This was likely something Verbeek didn't offer even at a 5 year deal. Maybe they offered 5 years 35M max?
  17. Looks like the salary breakdown is $38m the first 5 years. This was likely something the Ducks couldn't offer even for a 5 year deal.
  18. Helleson and Vaakanainen look to be similar type of strong 2 way dmen with confidence in moving the puck up the ice. Looks like Verbeek has a plan of how he wants his system to look.
  19. Colorado's combo of great development and high drafting allowed us to make that steal. The fact they have Makar, Byram, and Girard made Helleson disposable. On any other team Helleson would be higher in the defensive prospect pool and likely untouchable.
  20. I also believe that if Getz gets traded it'll truly be a rental, and that he'll sign with the Ducks over the summer. I'd be for trading him and getting some picks in return if a handshake deal is in place. Would be crazy to see him traded to tampa to create a 4th line of perry-getz-maroon. It'll be unlikely bc of Tampa's cap issues, but i'll be rooting for them if that happens.
  21. That is true from the sports competitive perspective--i do agree with you there. I'm an accountant, so when it comes to managing my cashflow, I am always cheap :). The Samuelis are still running a business with pretty poor attendance this season, so any cash savings makes sense.
  22. Ducks are playing the salary cashflow game here. Lettieri gets paid half with SD than he does with Anaheim. Ths is the luxury of having a farm team down the freeway. You'll see this type of roster juggling during off days for the rest of the year.
