  1. I really believe he loves it out here and for now wants to be in Anaheim. The only other team I could see him wanting to play for would be the Rangers. As of now and the next few seasons, it doesn't look like they could fit him into their line-up if his aspirations are a $9+M contract.
  2. Well maybe but I think he would have to have 90-100 point seasons in his bridge years to command that. He doesn't really hold all the cards, some cards because he still needs to prove he's worth that much and he can't do it unless he's playing. A bridge is still sketchy though. Say Anaheim is offering him 8x8 now and he doesn't take it, he could blowup his chances of getting a big payday if he doesn't have two (or how many) good bridge years. Say he's still stuck in the 60-70 point range. No one is going to give him $9.5M or more. Being marketable is in his own best interests to get sponsors.
  3. I look at it this way: If Murray didn't resign, was what he was doing rebuilding or re-tooling? Because the Samueli's looked to be onboard with whatever he was doing. As far as the owners being delusional, look what it took to get rid of Murray. He wasn't even fired for his actions, he resigned. So I think their "task force" was sent out to find someone who probably wouldn't have cost as much to employ but have some front office experience. I would think if you intended to rebuild, you would hire someone with extensive experience.
  4. Was he hired to rebuild the team though? We really do not know the criteria that ownership tasked Niedermeyer and Kariya with in their search. The only General Manager experience he had (not including Assistant GM) was the few months in Grand Rapids before he was hired here. We really do not know how much input he had in Tampa or Detroit but while in Tampa he switched between Director of Player Personnel and Assistant GM quite a few times. He was also the Director of Pro Scouting his first two seasons in Tampa. In Detroit he was an Assistant for two seasons before going to Grand Rapids in his third season and eventually being hired here that same season. So it appears on it's face value that rebuilding was beyond anything he had done before. To me, Verbeek is more of a middle management guy. Not the leader of an organization. I think his hire was more of a cost cutting measure than it was bringing in the best person for the job.
  5. Well I kinda said he was a less drunk version of Murray from the beginning. If the Ducks don't show any improvement (at least a .500 team) this season he should be in the hot seat.
  6. Are you viewing Rakell and Lindholm as a mess to clean up? The biggest mess Murray left was Eakins and Verbeek came in with no plan for a replacement. The other "mess" Verbeek was given was Terry, Zegras, McTavish, Drysdale, LaCombe, Zellweger, Hinds and Dostal. He was even given the mess of a #1 goalie like Gibson. If one of the better prospect pools in the NHL is a "mess" then I would like to see a disaster. What I will blame Murray for is hiring Eakins and firing Dineen. Those two moves on their own dug the hole. The biggest mess though is ownership. The Samueli's allowed Murray to run amuck for years. The fact that he's still allowed in the building is mind boggling.
  7. I think he fumbled and bumbled his way into having the worst record last year. I also truly believe he thought he put a .500 team together. if that's the case, he would have picked 10th OA no 1st OA prior to the lottery. When it comes to the 2023 draft, I wanted Carlsson. He got Carlsson. Organizationally is Carlsson the better option than Fantilli? Hard to say. If Fantilli pans out to be a wing then we kind of missed. I like Zegras at C. Now he's probably going to be pushed to wing. Maybe that's why negotiations are where they are at.
  8. Well, when Yzerman took over in Tampa, he already had two future cornerstone players in Hedman and Stamkos. He had veterans like St. Louis and Lecavalier. He got lucky in his first two drafts with Kucherov, Palat and Vasilevsky. His biggest gold strike was Jon Cooper who was hired to coach Norfolk before Yzerman became GM. He made some pretty bold moves in acquiring veterans along the way. So in Tampa, I think he just got lucky. Trying the same formula in Detroit hasn't had the same results. He had Dylan Larking as a cornerstone player and who else? He didn't have a Jon Cooper waiting in the AHL. So I tend to believe that the Yzerman mystique is just a bunch of hooey. As for turnarounds, I don't know if you can really count them but Vegas went from expansion to a Cup final team in one season. Bold moves and not caring about the cap. Seattle in their second year went to the playoffs. So if Verbeek is trying to copy Yzerman, I don't know what he's trying to copy. Lindholm and Rakell are gone. Manson who can be fairly argued as being replaceable because of injuries is gone. The apparent face of the franchise Zegras isn't signed yet and his coaching hire is a 60 year rookie NHL head coach. Maybe Cronin turns out to be good, I guess we will find out.
  9. The problem for me is that I don't want a clone of another GM. I don't care what Yzerman is doing in Detroit. The Red Wings are an original six team. He can dilly dally all he wants because Detroit has a fanbase going back decades before the Ducks were even a twinkle in Disney's eyes. Last off season it was it's Verbeek's first off season as a new GM so just give him some slack. But next off season there shouldn't be any excuses. So now it's, well he's only been here not even two years so just give him some slack. So five years down the road when the Ducks still haven't made the playoffs will the excuse still be the same? Sure, Verbeek came into a hole and he started digging more because of Eakins. He owns that. He owns his signings. Every move that he's made he owns. I think the fanbase just wants explanations and accountability.
  10. Big difference between what he faced in WJC and the top pro league in the world. To the bolded, that's what I'm saying. He needs strength and weight. It will take time for that. As for the floating, hopefully Cronin has a plan for that because I'm sure Zegras wants to do more. The kid wants to play, he just needs good direction.
  11. I don't think he has now or ever will have the physical stature to do that. Unless the league is inundated with players his size in the next few seasons, he's never going to be the biggest guy on the ice. Right now he just has his chirping and his attempts to be a prick with what you mentioned. If only we had Perry to be his sensei.
  12. Carrick is 31 years old. He also had Eakins as a head coach at some level since 2018. So he should have at least shinned a little more than his jaw dropping 7 points. Leason has potential upside as what? I'm just saying there are some players on this team that should be secure with their roster spots. Some should not but Verbeek thinks they should because I don't think he has much of a plan. I think the accepted term now is Pricks or Prick. Ask Troy Stecher how annoying Zegras is to play against. Jones even got one of the Yotes (I believe) to slash him in the back. I think the forwards are fine, it's the defense that needs to up the prick game and hopefully it's happened.
  13. How are coaching changes is their first two AHL seasons helping? I'll agree if the talent isn't there then what's the point but really, are you saying guys like Carrick and Leason deserve a better shot at making the team or should be on the team? Carrick had 7 friggin points last year. Leason had 9 points. They shouldn't be in the NHL.
  14. I would call it organizational ineptitude as to how long the likes of Tracey, Perreault and others have been left to marinate. To be fair with Tracey, he shouldn't have been picked anyway, that was just Murray wasting a pick on a pet project. Perreault on the other hand, should have at least played more than one NHL game but hasn't. Coaching changes, GM changes, player development changes, new systems, there hasn't been anything cohesive. Now you have the Little Ball of Potential saying he doesn't want to send anyone up until they are "ready" because he doesn't want them to get into a habit of being sent back down. I mean, kinda of makes sense but if the kids are having the door slammed their faces what's the motivation?
  15. Former Ducks 1st round pick and Ducks legend Peter Holland has a PTO with Colorado. He hasn't seen NHL ice since the 17-18 season with the Rangers spending the past few years in the KHL and SHL. Best of luck to him.
  16. I think it would be more of a signing to protect Carlsson if he sticks. Carlsson is a big kid but he's not as familiar with North American hockey as he is with European hockey..
  17. I was halfway expecting him or our old buddy meathead.
  18. The Kucherov bridge deal took up 6.53% of the Lightnings cap when it was signed. Also, the cap ceiling was $71M back then, much lower than today. To use Strome as an example, his $5M AAV only takes up 6.06% of the Ducks cap. Now since I'm not good at math, if Verbeek offered Zegras a bridge at the same percentage as Kucherov got back then, the AAV would be considerably higher for Zegras now. Also since the cap is supposed to be going up the next two seasons, that 6.53% would decrease.
  19. I've said this trade makes no sense from the beginning of the original post. To add, I even heard about this rumor before it posted here and I thought it was laughable when I first heard it. I just never bothered to post anything about it until it became a discussion. Brodie for clarification has a 10 team no trade list. Liljegren is a former 17th OA pick so Verbeek could see that as a sweetener. Robertson is a former 2nd round pick.
  20. So this is your trade proposal: "Lyubushkin (1/2 retained) + Vaakanainen <---> Brodie (40% retained) + Robertson + 3rd" This is the rumored trade: Vatrano+Vakanainen for Brodie+Lilegren+Roberstson. In your proposal Lyubushkin and Brodie are the principal pieces which really isn't good from Toronto's perspective because they already had him once and didn't even bother to re-sign him. You want Toronto to retain salary on Brodie which also doesn't make sense from the Toronto perspective because they want all of it gone. So Treliving calls up Verbeek and says hey Beeker, would you be interested in taking this Brodie contract. Verbeek says what are you thinking? Treliving says I like that Vatrano kid of yours which Verbeek counters well that Brodie contract has him getting $7.5M this year in salary, that's a bit much don't cha think? I need to make it worth my while. I'm having trouble signing this Drysdale kid so if you want me to take Brodie of your hands and you want one of my 20 goal guys, you have to give me Liljegren. Wow Pat, that's kind of steep, how about Robertson instead? Well, nope but since you're offering your injured player, how about I throw in Vakanainen. He and Robertson both need a change of scenery. Well ok Beek, I'll have to sleep on this one.
  21. Again I'm pointing out the fact that he isn't signed. Will he be signed before training camp?
  22. Getting Lilegren would be the sweetener for taking on all of Broidie's contract. Toronto wants to keep their picks, even a 3rd round pick. The problem I have is if this trade took place today, we would lose a 20+ goal scorer and have yet to signed another 20+ goal scorer in Zegras. If Zegras finally signs before camp then great but who's going to make up for that other 20 goal loss? Leason? McGinn? Jones? Also if we do lose Vatrano and sign Zegras, that's still only 12 forwards on the roster. Is there anyone listed in San Diego that will come up and make up those 20 goals?
  23. Drysdale isn't signed. So if that trade happened today, there would be eight. CapFriendly has Hagg, White, LaCombe, Fowler, Gudas and Lyubushkin listed. If you add Brodie and Lilegren that's eight. Fowler/Brodie LaCombe/Gudas Hagg/Lyubushkin Lilegren White Drysdale (unsigned)
  24. Adding Lilegren and Brodie put the D count up to 8 and that's without Drysdale. Brodie also has a 10 team no trade list. Why would he agree to come here if Anaheim is on the list? I believe Toronto doesn't want to lose anymore draft picks. Also Verbeek just got Lyubushkin. I also don't see Brodie agreeing to come to the worst team in the NHL last year after being on a playoff team.
  25. I don't think you can put Drysdale and Zegras on the opening night roster until they are signed. Also if the rumored Ducks/Leafs trade does go down, where does that leave Drysdale? He wasn't included in the trade going back to Toronto but it seems kind of dumb of them not to have him in the package.
