    not to the Ducks, hopefully.

Just curious, what would it take to lure Alexander Barkov from Florida?

Why would anyone pay top dollar for a guy with a herniated disk in his neck,  Give me Sam Reinhart for a 1/3 the price

p.s. Bring on Barkov  love him  Just researched this.  Barkov has a NTC with contract ending 2021.  He wouldn't want to come to a rebuild.  He will want a Stanley Cup before his career is over and it wouldn't be with the Ducks in our time frame.

What evidence do we have that the Samuelis think that way, though?  If we grant your premise, that still leaves us with ownership who has very, very rarely shown an inclination to hire short-term solutions.  This would be a significant departure from their modus operandi.

The organization needs change, that much is obvious.  And if their solution is to bring someone in for a few years to get the ship turned around, I'm not opposed as long as they nail the hire.  But I would much rather see them hire someone who is a long-term builder.  Hire someone who will build the scouting department and the analytics department and the player development department.  Maybe that person is in the president role, rather than the GM, but either way, I envision that person having a long-term plan that requires more than a couple years at the helm.  Of course that involves risk - if you're giving someone from outside the organization the reins to do a long-term project, you'd better get it right, otherwise you're stuck and you have to re-do the whole thing in three to five years (see Sabres, Buffalo).  Maybe the Samuelis aren't interested in that kind of commitment.  But they seem to like people who stick around for a while.

I don't know.  Until this hire, I was feeling pretty sure that Bob Murray was going to get a different cushy front office job and that Madden would step into the GM role after next season.  This shakes that up a little bit, which does make me happy.  Not that I dislike Madden, but we have no idea what kind of GM he'll be.  We only know that he's been decent at running the amateur scouting department.  And this organization could use some new blood.

I agree with most of what you have said except, Just because someone is an excellent scout doesnt assure they can negotiate trades and contracts (approval of the asst GMs plans) or carry the business aspects of the GM Role (See Murray, Bob)

Interesting....but IF that fails Ducks should make a Deal with Seattle and another team via Trade.

Like the one Vodka Bob made costing us Theodore?  Not a chance.  Expose the players and Seattle has to take one from every team.  The less Vodka negotiates the better.

  4. Im pretty sure he has been around since Brian Burke days.  Then you have to ask why did we also had Darryl Sutter until he took the Calgary coaching job?   All this top tier management doesnt come cheap.   Face it Murray is as incompetent as they come.

I am sure if Bob was a manager back then, he would not trade Tverdovsky - he would treat him like he treats Cam Fowler - our untouchable "franchise player", creative defenseman, how can I trade second-overall pick, bla, bla, bla.....Jack Ferreira had guts to do it, something Bob does not have.

Also, if memory serves me right, at the time of this trade Selanne had like 3 years remaining on his contract at very reasonable $2.75 mil per season. It was a steal for this team, perhaps the best trade in Ducks history. Selanne turned out to be a Hall of Fame member, Tverdovsky was bounced from team to team before he end up playing in Europe, and Chad Kilger? I never even heard of him since he got traded.

Didnt Vodka Bob also trade Palmeri for a 2nd round pick?  I can only imagine what Bobs peers say behind his back.

Moose we are not building a rocket to Mars.  There are only so many options or combinations of options.  Murray is not needed for that task.  If this happens, you make that choice.  Im sure its mapped out to a large extent.

Firing is not common after the draft, but there are plenty of examples of GMs stepping aside after the draft for a new GM to step up from within the organization to take over. Yzerman-BrisBoise in Tampa. Sherman-Sakic in Colorado. Tallon-Bowman in Chicago. Even our very own Bob Murray took over for Burkie in November 2008.

I think it's not out of the realm of possibility that Bob does the ED, entry draft, and the opening of the UFA period this summer and then moves into a different role so that Madden can take over GM duties. I don't expect him to be fired though. Not ever. He's too entrenched in the executive leadership to be run out of town. Stepping aside is the most fans who want him gone can likely hope for.

No new GM would be happy about a former GM making the picks that determine the franchise future.  Bob Murray does not have the moral compass to do the right thing and step aside.  Again like a post I wrote months ago, the fans opinion does not matter.  I wont be dropping a dime on anything Ducks if he stays in the current position.  I think Murray has a massive ego and the rest of the organization is afraid of him for some reason.  Sad continued decline of a once great franchise.  He needs to go.  The fans pay for everything but ignored?  Doesn't seem right.

  9. If you were not watching the St Louis post game broadcast of tonight's game, you have to really appreciate how classy St Louis team, broadcasters and fans were in what appears to be David Backes final game.  Like Millers final home game a couple days ago, St Louis players congratulated Backes one by one, the fans gave him a 15 minute standing ovation and the broadcasters couldnt have been more kind and respectful.  All were very emotional.  Lastly they surprised Backes with a video message from his wife and kids. His parents drove down from Minnesota for the game.  He was also named the #1 Star tonight. He played for the Blues for 10 years and Captain for 5 years.   Very classy goodbye for a great career.

I'm shocked Eakins isn't more that way...especially with how much all the players talk about how much they like him and how he's even re-sparked players love for the game.

Everyone says Eakins is a nice guy.  Newsflash...The guy isn't there to make friends.  Its a business.  Moron Bob went from RC (Similar to an unliked prison warden) to a guy from Cheers Bar.   I think firing Boudreau was a huge mistake.  When dealing with adult players you have to mold the team style around the talent you have or change the people/ players.  Boozer Bob swung from one extreme to another, again proving his incompetence as a manager of a business and people / players.

  11. This topic has been beat to DEATH!  Give it a rest.  No one knows what he is going to do or what the organization intends.  Absurd posts sometimes by the same posters as many as 6 or 7 times over.....whew.  You need to get a job if these are you.
