Why Trade for Marner?.......Ducks should focus on Free Agent Frenzy then go with a Trade right now.

The Ducks hardly ever do anything significant in FA.  They don't pay what it takes to get the more sought after FA's, and FA's are less likely to be interested in playing for a team that's in the middle of a rebuild, and is years away from contending, despite what Verbeek is trying to BS the fan base with.

  2. I realize that I've been a Debbie Downer about this team for awhile now, but I honestly feel it's safe to say that the Samueli's are going to be putting their focus and their $$$$$$$$ into this OC Vibe project for the next several years, and the Ducks are going to be somewhat of an afterthought.  This is a massive undertaking, and it will carry a great expense.  Eventually they'll have Revenue once it's all completed, but that looks to be several years from now, and in the meantime, they're going to be throwing a lot of money at it, and probably keeping the Ducks payroll at a modest level.

  3. I've come to the conclusion that there needs to be a 3rd referee that is able to call Penalties.  If not on the ice, then perhaps in the officials box.

And perhaps a team should be allowed to call for a video review of either a missed Penalty, or an unjustified Penalty that was called against them.

I know it's a pipe dream, and there's no chance of it happening.  Bettman couldn't care less about the officiating quality, and the League is apparently perfectly willing to let games occasionally be decided based on the incompetence level of some of these so-called officials, who can literally control a team's destiny.

Watching Hughes with blood running down his face, explaining to the official in the nicest terms, that they're Pathetic, after McJesus gets away with what should have been a 4 Minute Penalty, is just another example of how the NHL referees are ruining all legitimacy of the game.

  4. Giving up 4 straight goals to lose it at home in OT has got to be devastating.  I can't think of anything more depressing than being a Stars fan at that game and enduring the full range of emotion over the 4 periods.  Feeling like you're dominating, and in control after 20 minutes.  Filled with anxiety after CO closes within 1 during the 2nd period.  Getting sent to OT when CO ties it in the 3rd.  Then losing it on a breakaway in OT.

Brutal last two PPG penalties they called.

The last one seemed like a call to offset the prior penalty call against NY, and almost looked like a dive.  NY goalie should have been called for a slash during the Carolina PP, but of course, there's ZERO chance they're going to put the Rangers down 2 men during OT #2, and the goalie knew he'd get away with it.

It's not entirely his fault the team is this bad, Bob should have started the rebuild sooner, we could be watching the Ducks in the playoffs right now with Gibson in net. But selecting the younger goalie of the two with comparable performance was a move 90% of NHL GM's would make.

It's certainly not entirely his fault, but I've NEVER felt that Gibson was a lights out goalie, in the mold of someone like Giguere.  He always seemed to give up the critical goal when a save was needed.  I feel like he had a hand in the string of playoff losses we had in the last 2010's decade.  When Andersen was let go, I felt in my gut that it was 100% the wrong choice.  Despite some flashes of greatness since, Gibson has shown me nothing to prove otherwise.  Andersen, on the other hand, seems to be in the Playoffs consistently.  Whether it's because of his play or the teams he chose to be a part of, it's clear that he's a good goalie, and has helped the teams he's on, make the Playoffs.  And teams don't make the Playoffs unless they have good to great goaltending.

It has always bothered me that Gibson cannot stand on his head for any extended period of time.  And sometimes, a great goalie has to do that.

Sorry, but if the Goalie leaves the blue paint he should be fair game.  If the league is calling back goals because players happen to be in the blue paint then it should go both ways.  Hell, how many times have we seen opponents skate right through Gibby in his net with NO call? Fing hate the NHL right now.

The League is a joke, as is Buttman.  God awful officiating night in and night out.

  8. I have not once wavered in my belief that we should have kept Freddie Andersen and gotten rid of Gibson.

So, since that trade, how many Playoff games has Andersen appeared in, and how many has Gibson appeared in?  Anybody know?

To think, Gibson now holds the record for games played by a Ducks goalie, and that record may never be broken.  And what has he got to show for it?  A whole lot of failure.

  9. The only time I've felt excited about Ducks hockey was for those few weeks in October last year.  And looking back, that was a fluke, in that we had to come back from behind to win many of those games.  I realize a guy like Verbeek has to talk a good game about how we're going to contend for a playoff spot by next season, but realistically, that seems like simply homerism to me.  He's obviously going to be like Mooseduck and be eternally optimistic, even when we're finishing with 60 points for consecutive seasons.  We'll see what happens during the off season, but if history repeats, it will be more ho hum acquisitions and a ton of unused cap space.

  10. Now we can spend the next 2 months analyzing who Verbeek is going to pick, and get it completely wrong.

Was there anybody on these boards who correctly predicted the Carlsson pick?  All I remember was everybody saying Fantilli, Fantilli, Fantilli.

  11. I'm not going to bother watching the "lottery."  I'll just come here tomorrow night to see where we landed.

Like us, San Jose has never picked #1, so they'll probably get it, leaving us as one of the very few select teams to have that honor.

If the Sharks don't get it, Chicago obviously will.  Ducks will end up 3rd or perhaps 4th.

  12. I know we hate the Kings, but aren't we supposed to be rooting against the Oilers, since our pick from them is dependent upon where they finish?

Ya the red clearly saw his helmet off. He waited to blow the whistle until AFTER the shot. He seriously could have died if he took another 90+ mph puck to the head. Terrible. The reffing association, whatever it’s called, needs to pull that ref from playoff games.

Are you kidding?  The league will probably extend his contract.  They reward ineptness.  Chris Lee is 49 frickin' years old, is one of the worst officials in the league, and he keeps coming back year after year.  Is he trying to become the oldest official in NHL history?

  14. I really find it difficult to watch this sport.  The "officiating" is God Awful.  The fact that these MORONS can completely impact the outcome of a game, makes this sport a JOKE.

Just saw the Kings get totally screwed by a PATHETIC call.  Then the Kings goalie lost his helmet, and it took them another 5-10 seconds to blow the play dead.

Yes. And they will most likely be correct.

The large Mormon population in Utah are going to love such a physical sport.

Vegas & Seattle made sense for teams, though I still question the long term viability in Seattle.  And they got Expansion teams, not a franchise that's on it's 3rd city.  It took the league almost 3 decades to give up on Arizona.  So I'll probably be dead by the time they pull the plug in Utah.  If they run the team like they did in AZ, the excitement of having a team will taper off eventually.  You can't put lipstick on a pig.  If AZ had a team run like Vegas' club, the fans would have showed up.

I would take 1 handful of points improvement this year over last year. How I wish that was the case. Right now the Ducks are set to finsih with 1 point less then last year. Not more, less. 58 points last year vs 57 points this year and likely a loss to Vegas. I wish we had a handful of points more.

Ya know, I didn't even realize that.  For some reason I thought we had 64 points.

Why? I have right to express my passion for the Anaheim Ducks....Past 23 years I can abit of Zealot and know I rub people the wrong way....Which lead to some within Ducks Fanbase to ridicule me which I no longer get annoy thanks to advice from a Local Ducks Fan I met few years ago. Regardless how this Season will Conclude......I want to say again...I DO NOT agree or FALL into the Gatekeeping Mentality on the Ducks Message Board......I am OG so I reserve the Right to say what is on my mind about our Anaheim Ducks.

You're a die hard, dedicated and loyal fan.  Part of me admires you for that.  Like Cubs fans who waited decades and decades to even reach the World Series, and started Every Single April saying "This Is Our Year!!!"

What I find surprising, is that you are not like the typical Canadian Hockey fan, I have long heard of.  I hear how harsh and critical Canadian fans can be about their team, when they Stink.  I hear how great players have it in places like Anaheim & L.A., because the spotlight is not on them constantly, and when things go bad, the majority of fans aren't going to get in an uproar about it.  While in places like Montreal & Toronto, your butt is on the line daily, and when a team plays poorly, the fans let them hear about it.  It's one thing to be upbeat, but it's another to be upbeat when it's clear there is little to be upbeat about.

We're not talking about a bad period, for a good team.  We're not talking about how they're inconsistent, but are 1 step away from being a playoff club.  We're talking about a team that has finished in the bottom 10 for I believe 3 consecutive seasons, and in the bottom 3 for 2 consecutive seasons.

This season is over, and I'm sure you look forward to '24-'25 with the same optimism as is customary.  And you won't be alone, everybody starts fresh come October, and we all should have hopes that they'll improve significantly.  Meaning more than 1 handful of points improvement like was the case this season.  But one would hope, that IF that improvement doesn't materialize, you could find it deep inside, to Rip the Ducks a new one.  It would be refreshing.  I think any of us do them a disservice by acting like we don't see the forest through the trees here.  Supporting a team that returns our loyalty by being an embarrassment on the ice, does them a disservice.  And that goes all the way from Ownership, through ALL the coaches, and down to ALL the players.

Sometimes it seems like there's so much passion amongst the fans, while it's become more or less a job with a paycheck to the players.  I guess sports is weird in that you can get paid $7M and score 1/2 or 1/3rd of the goals you're expected to, and then take a few months off, knowing you'll be back to earn another $7M, and even if you score less, rinse, cycle, repeat.

I think I speak for others here, who would like you to call a spade a spade.  It's
