lol, actually Gibby NOT being on their list is the first time i'm thinking a trade for him MIGHT be in the works.

    Z was always crazysause, tho.

it's very weird they've put 1st round picks on that list.

Maybe Verbeek doesn't want another Perry, where we're left paying big bucks while the subject of trade gets to play for Playoff teams year after year.

We have to start improving sooner rather than later, or nobody would want to play here eveer. Last year was rock bottom, this year is a bit better, then we have to make the jump next year and the one after that. Why does everyone forget about the Edmonton Oilers and their "lucky" 1st picks in a row? How many Cups in Edmonton since those picks?

Even Connor McJesus won't save a franchise that just sucks and doesn't have a plan.

But Edmonton is making the Playoffs, and they're on track to make it again this year.  Obviously that doesn't guarantee a thing, but you can't win if you don't make the dance to begin with.  The last time a Canadian team won the Cup, the Mighty Ducks hadn't even played a game yet.  During that time, plenty of Canadian teams have made the Playoffs, but none have found a way to close the deal.  At this point, I'd take the Oilers' 72 points over our 43.

IF it was then Ducks would not finish last as some within Ducks Fanbase have wanted.

I assure you that nobody in the Fanbase "wanted" to finish last when the season began.  But once reality sets in that there is ZERO chance at making the Playoffs, and it's only January, it becomes a matter of what is best for the long term prospects of the team.  I'm sorry, but you will Never convince me that it's better to finish outside the Playoffs with 75-80 points, and picking 12th in the Draft, or finishing with less than 60 points, and picking in the Top 3.

It completely baffles me how anybody can ignore the fact the only reason we were able to pick up a player like Leo Carlsson, is because we finished at the bottom of the league.  For the low, low price of a few extra losses, we have a player who will be wearing a Ducks uniform for years to come.

As for this season, I'd trade our current position for having 60-70 points, and being in the hunt for a Playoff spot.  But since that ship sailed weeks ago, the best outcome for the long term, is to finish in the bottom 3, so we're assured of picking in the Top 5 at this year's draft.

  4. As a side note, last season was the 1st season in Ducks history that they haven't had a Captain.  We're now almost done with the 2nd season without one.  Seems kind of embarrassing if you ask me.  So much so, that it's never talked about, even though we had one for 28 consecutive years.

  5. Is it common for a team to go multiple seasons without a Captain?  I know there was talk about Terry being in line for that, prior to this season, and I honestly thought that was fairly likely.  McTavish was also in the conversation, and I think naming him would make trading him a little more difficult if he became the leader of the team.

I thought that teams are more or less supposed to have an official Captain, but the Ducks don't seem to be in any hurry to have one.  I feel that it makes us look dysfunctional, because there isn't one guy the rest of the players can really look up to as a leader.  Are there many other teams in the league that are also without a Captain?

  6. Obviously there is no certainty to how players will turn out.  But just how bright will Chicago's future prospects be if they did land Celebrini on top of getting Bedard last year?  Given their current position, I can certainly see it happening.

I'd almost wish for San Jose to end up with him, even though they're in our division.

I know we all believe that there’s zero chance of the Ducks winning the lottery, but it is a possibility. So here’s a scenario: the Ducks get Celebrini and Columbus is in position to get the top RHD on their draft board. Their new GM calls up Beeker and offers Jiricek<—-> McTavish (with whatever additional parts added to either side to make it even).

    Does Verbeek hang up?

I think we all need to come to terms with the fact that Verbeek is still shaping this roster and that not everyone here may be part of his long term vision. Drysdale certainly wasn’t.

Other than Carlsson, who is barely getting started and isn't even old enough to buy a beer yet, McTavish is perhaps the one consistent player we have.  I'd really be hesitant to trade him.

We’re not trading any of Verbeek’s draft picks. I’ll wait and see on every player he inherited. For example, if the Ducks were to win the draft lottery and be lined up for Celebrini, do you think that Verbeek definitely wouldn’t see if he could move Zegras or McTavish for a stud RHD? I’m not so sure.

Chicago looks to finish last or 2nd to last, so I'd expect that's where Celebrini is going to end up.  The Ducks may end up in the 3rd slot, like Chicago did last season, but there's pretty much Zero chance they'll move up like the Blackhawks did last year, because, well.....they're the Ducks.

I don’t expect Verbeek to trade for a big name player, but I disagree that the Ducks don’t have the assets to do so. The Ducks have more desirable trade assets than almost every team in the NHL. Lots of draft capital and the #1 ranked pipeline according to The Athletic. Plus tons of cap space if he wanted to add a useful player and eat 1/2 their salary. Again, I don’t think he’ll do it, but the assets are there to do it.

Are you talking about assets like Zegras, McTavish, Mintyukov or Carlsson?  What's the point in trading away a good future player?  We already got rid of Drysdale, although he hasn't exactly played spectacular since we did.

  10. As far as I'm concerned, it's pointless for him to play.  This season is a bust.  I had expectations that there would be improvement with a new coach, Leo Carlsson in the lineup, and the renewed optimism that comes with a brand new season.  Instead, aside from some flashy play in October from Vatrano, it's a carbon copy of last season, only this time we're probably going to finish with the 3rd worst record, because Chicago & San Jose are really stinking it up.  I said it before, take away Vatrano's hot streak, and our come from behind miracles in October, and we're pretty much exactly the same floundering club that finished last in the league in April 2023.

Is success in lower level head coaching gigs necessary for NHL success?  Randy Carlyle didn't win anything with Manitoba. It probably helps, but I don't think it's necessarily a prerequisite either.

Randy Carlyle was given a team with at least 5 current or future Hall Of Famers, and a HOF GM.  He was arguably the least essential piece of the 2006-'07 team.  His 2nd tenure with the Ducks proved that when the going got tough, things fell apart.

  12. Of course, Anaheim got screwed over because of the missed season.  I can't recall whether it was a strike or a lockout.  Billionaires fighting Millionaires.

In any case, they had to award the following year's game to the city that was to hold the cancelled one, and it bumped Anaheim from the slot they were sure to get.  Now, there's pretty much Zero chance they'll ever get it, because they don't have a new enough arena.  Plus, they like to have it in L.A.  I think the Kings have hosted it at least 3 times.

But as I said, Buttman couldn't care less about the Ducks, or probably any non-major market team.

It was a nothingburger dismissal of Perry, the PA should slap the stinking Blackhawks for that. That franchise deserves to burn. And because Perry was essentially dismissed for nothing, Bettman is happy to say that he doesn't care.

Obviously Perry just wants the whole thing to go away.  Otherwise he would be supporting and asking for the PA to file a grievance.  I think the fact the Ducks are a dumpster fire, had a lot to do with Getzlaf retiring.  He probably felt he owed it to the Ducks to not finish his career with another team, yet he didn't want to be part of this mess for 1 second longer.  Perry has also had the opportunity to sign with Anaheim, if he wanted to, but he too would rather play for a team that is capable of playing past mid-April.

Buttman is an A-Hole, and a monkey could do his job.  Who knows what shenanigans he's pulled since he's been Commissioner, and he couldn't care less about the Ducks, nor the fact officiating in the league is an absolute Joke.

  14. Nobody cares about the All Star Game to begin with.  It happens in the middle of the season, so there is ZERO contact, No Defense, and essentially a shooting gallery.

Then, they tried to change it up, to generate interest, and that's when they lost even me.  It just makes no sense.  At least go back to Eastern Vs Western Conference and 5 on 5 for 3 20 minute periods.  Simple enough that anyone can follow along.

  15. It's pretty ridiculous that Getzlaf won't allow his # to be retired until Perry retires.  If Perry ends up playing another season, it will be the '25-'26 season before Getzlaf's # is retired, and I guess Perry's as well.

So we pay over $6 mil to an over 30 year old guy for 4 years that has knee problems and now is out for knee surgery. Sounds like another brillant move by Verbeek.

Kind of like when we gave Patrick Eaves a 3 year $9M deal, and he played a total of about 9 games for us before retiring.
