Yes. And they will most likely be correct.

The large Mormon population in Utah are going to love such a physical sport.

Vegas & Seattle made sense for teams, though I still question the long term viability in Seattle.  And they got Expansion teams, not a franchise that's on it's 3rd city.  It took the league almost 3 decades to give up on Arizona.  So I'll probably be dead by the time they pull the plug in Utah.  If they run the team like they did in AZ, the excitement of having a team will taper off eventually.  You can't put lipstick on a pig.  If AZ had a team run like Vegas' club, the fans would have showed up.

I would take 1 handful of points improvement this year over last year. How I wish that was the case. Right now the Ducks are set to finsih with 1 point less then last year. Not more, less. 58 points last year vs 57 points this year and likely a loss to Vegas. I wish we had a handful of points more.

Ya know, I didn't even realize that.  For some reason I thought we had 64 points.

Why? I have right to express my passion for the Anaheim Ducks....Past 23 years I can abit of Zealot and know I rub people the wrong way....Which lead to some within Ducks Fanbase to ridicule me which I no longer get annoy thanks to advice from a Local Ducks Fan I met few years ago. Regardless how this Season will Conclude......I want to say again...I DO NOT agree or FALL into the Gatekeeping Mentality on the Ducks Message Board......I am OG so I reserve the Right to say what is on my mind about our Anaheim Ducks.

You're a die hard, dedicated and loyal fan.  Part of me admires you for that.  Like Cubs fans who waited decades and decades to even reach the World Series, and started Every Single April saying "This Is Our Year!!!"

What I find surprising, is that you are not like the typical Canadian Hockey fan, I have long heard of.  I hear how harsh and critical Canadian fans can be about their team, when they Stink.  I hear how great players have it in places like Anaheim & L.A., because the spotlight is not on them constantly, and when things go bad, the majority of fans aren't going to get in an uproar about it.  While in places like Montreal & Toronto, your butt is on the line daily, and when a team plays poorly, the fans let them hear about it.  It's one thing to be upbeat, but it's another to be upbeat when it's clear there is little to be upbeat about.

We're not talking about a bad period, for a good team.  We're not talking about how they're inconsistent, but are 1 step away from being a playoff club.  We're talking about a team that has finished in the bottom 10 for I believe 3 consecutive seasons, and in the bottom 3 for 2 consecutive seasons.

This season is over, and I'm sure you look forward to '24-'25 with the same optimism as is customary.  And you won't be alone, everybody starts fresh come October, and we all should have hopes that they'll improve significantly.  Meaning more than 1 handful of points improvement like was the case this season.  But one would hope, that IF that improvement doesn't materialize, you could find it deep inside, to Rip the Ducks a new one.  It would be refreshing.  I think any of us do them a disservice by acting like we don't see the forest through the trees here.  Supporting a team that returns our loyalty by being an embarrassment on the ice, does them a disservice.  And that goes all the way from Ownership, through ALL the coaches, and down to ALL the players.

Sometimes it seems like there's so much passion amongst the fans, while it's become more or less a job with a paycheck to the players.  I guess sports is weird in that you can get paid $7M and score 1/2 or 1/3rd of the goals you're expected to, and then take a few months off, knowing you'll be back to earn another $7M, and even if you score less, rinse, cycle, repeat.

I think I speak for others here, who would like you to call a spade a spade.  It's

He has 20 goals on the season.

That's weird, because when I looked at the Ducks website while posting, it said 19.  But now I recall them talking abut it in the last game.

  5. Supposedly Terry, our 7 Million man, was bumped to the 3rd line.

75 games played, and he hasn't even reached 20 goals yet.

McTavish played 11 less games, and has 1 less goal at 18.

Can't really fault Verbeek.  Everybody was high on Terry, so the Ducks were afraid to lose him last year.  But if he doesn't get his s&*t together soon, he's gonna be a bust,  and with that many years remaining on his contract, I'm not sure he'd have any takers if we gave up on him.  7M is a lot to be paying a player who does not produce.  And if your highest paid Forward is not scoring goals, you're not going to be making the playoffs.

Well.... Hmm...after searching on the interweb, looks like the 2026 games are being held in Italy.

Still, the new owner already has an arena and that's a problem that the Coyotes could never overcome in 28 years.

Salt Lake City is apparently one of the finalists for the 2034 Olympics.  The committee apparently just finished up a visit this week, ahead of their decision on what city gets awarded them.

The only legit pro sports team in Phoenix before the Jets moved there were the Suns. The Diamondbacks and Cardinals came after the Coyotes.

The difference between Phoenix and SLC is that the new owner already has a venue for the team to play in and by the sound of it, if the 2026 winter olympic games are going there, there will be a a whole new arena built. In 28 years of being in Phoenix not a single owner ever built an arena for the Coyotes.

If they were going to build a new arena for the '26 games, wouldn't it have to be started by now?  They're less than 2 years away.

  8. Do they really think they're going to attract more fans in Utah than in Arizona?  I don't.  They will at first, just like Phoenix did at first.

Arizona seems like a far bigger Sports state than Utah.  They have well known College teams, and "had" all 4 major sports.  Utah has Basketball, and that's it.  The Basketball team hasn't been good for awhile, and I don't think they ever won a Championship.

I'm sure the Ownership will get a nice fat paycheck from the deal, so that's all that matters.  Perhaps if they had a better team, they would have been more popular in Arizona.

I guess that's one good thing about the Samueli's being the owners.  They're in O.C., and have said they won't relocate the team.  But if they ever leave, and the Ducks continue to flounder, attendance will decline even more, and they're certainly a possibility to relocate.

  9. So this week's question on The Mighty was:  How many coaches have the Ducks had in franchise history?

    Two of the possible choices were  A. 10   &  B. 11

Luckily, Wikipedia had the answer.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Anaheim_Ducks_head_coaches

    So I went with 10.

    Answer was 11.

Trick question.  I still say 10 is the correct answer.  Randy Carlyle was coach twice, but I don't think that should count as "2" head coaches.

I think a good coach can do a lot to sort things out in a locker room without intervening on a personal level. These guys want to win.

Every player in every sport "wants to win."  But obviously some teams don't have the talent necessary to win.  Not every team is going to win.  If the Ducks were hitting 80, 85, 90 points in a season, then perhaps a better coach could put them over the top.  But right now, it looks like they won't even make it to 60 points.  35 out of a playoff spot.  That's on the players, not the coach.  Scotty Bowman couldn't make this team into a Playoff team.

  11. I honestly wonder how much a coach can do with such a dysfunctional roster.  I mean, is a different coach going to suddenly turn our #1 Defenseman Fowler into an All Star?  Will he make Terry perform up to the $7 Million standard that we expected of him?  Is the Head Coach going to create a leader and Captain, when obviously the players don't appear to have anyone in mind that they look up to enough to be one?

I mean, a bad coach can certainly ruin a potentially good hockey team, but can even a great coach turn a team with several consecutive seasons of failing to achieve 70 points, into one that is in the hunt for a Playoff spot?  I have my doubts.

No they have not changed playoff formats since going to this division format. Always been top three trams in each division get in and then two wild cards. Nothing changed

I guess I had no idea since it's been so long since it mattered for the Ducks.

  13. Cronin is not going anywhere, so all of this speculation is ridiculous.  He'll be here At Least through next season.  And even if they did fire him, anyone who thinks ownership is going to replace him with a quality, prominent coach, don't know how the Ducks operate.

If they did tap a coach with name recognition, it would probably be Randy Carlyle for his 3rd go around.

  14. We're going to go from Worst team in the league to 3rd Worst team in the league, to contending for a Playoff spot?

I'd like to have some of what he's smoking.

Sounds a lot like "happy talk," to appease Season Seat Holders.  I'll believe it when I don't see it.

Every reliable insider has said that Verbeek is not shopping Zegras, but isn’t hanging the phone up, you listen and if someone offers something stupid, maybe. There’s a difference between that and being shopped

Do you think when people called years ago asking about Getzlaf, the phone wasn't hung up?  What about Bedard in Chicago or McDavid in Edmonton?  Do you think there was listening going on?  When you're high on a player, and intend to keep him in the fold for the long term, you are probably of the understanding that there is no offer out there you're willing to take.  Obviously, for Zegras, there is a price Verbeek would consider, otherwise he'd hang up.

Seen two things, Devils have talked to Ducks on Gibson again and Zegras very much in play linked to Rangers, Flyers, Red Wings. I dont expect either to happen.

With all this talk about Zegras being on the trading block, I don't see him being here long term.  It's obvious that Verbeek does not see him as the face of the franchise, like I had thought him to be.  At some point, he's going to get an offer he feels is good enough to part ways with Zegras.

Yeah great, he got a very late 1st round pick for Henrique. Almost going to be equal to where the Ducks 2nd round pick will be. In exchange we lose two roster players, get none back, and get to watch even more warm body fillers from San Diego do absolutely nothing. I dont know who's excited about the rest of the season but I'm not.

Isn't Henrique's contract up?  The Ducks season is over, and has been since Thanksgiving.  What use would do we have for him, other than helping a bit in the goals department, since our lineup is decimated.  So far as I'm concerned, he's underperformed since we acquired him.  Heck, they put him on waivers because he sucked so badly at one point.  He accomplished nothing here, so it's nice that we at least got a pick out of him.
