  1. The issue is that Chicago tanked and got rewarded. They had talent in their roster that they traded or choose not to play. Anaheim, however, was historically bad. Not only were they bad, the organization was bad at every level. NHL, AHL and ECHL. It’s not like there were players that could have been swapped out they would have resulted in more points.
  2. What would be a fair package from Columbus for them to move up to two? Laine and the 3rd for 2nd? Werenski as well if we throw in a second round pick?
  3. The challenge Fantilli will have is the same thing Eichel and Ryan had. As good as they maybe, no one really wanted them to be on the team. Not exactly the same for Malkin since Ovechkin wasn’t viewed as a generational prospect.
  4. He actually already plays in Chicago. Sounds like they already have the script written for next year.
  5. But what is the likelihood that Fantilli turns out to be a better pro than Bedard? 10%. 20%
  6. So what is the gap that we are talking about? Is it huge like Crosby/Ryan? Smaller, like Ovechkin/Malkin? Or something like McDavid/Eichel. Pretty sure is not a Tyler/Taylor toss up.
  7. Any chance you trade number 2 for a package of experienced players? I get very concerned when the pick is a college player. Our track record in signing them is less than stellar
  8. Nonsense. It was rigged and the order was predetermined.
  9. Since the Ducks must have won the second draw, does that count as “winnng” the lottery in the two in five year count? That would suck even more. I really hope Bedard doesn’t pan out.
  10. We all knew this was fixed, but at least don’t leak the order to the announcer before it’s revealed. I really have to question my interest in the league. The WWE is about as legit. As to Fantilli, what makes you think he won’t pull a Schultz and stay in school?
  11. Without the lottery being held live and monitored like Powerball, I will always have my doubts as to its legitimacy. But at least we get the top pick in the subsequent rounds plus one of the top three.
  12. Without the ping pong balls being drawn live on TV with independent observers (like the lottery) I have no confidence in it being done fairly.
  13. Well they just moved the draft lottery back an hour. Gives the league more time to figure out how to guarantee Bedard ends up in Chicago.
  14. To be fair, I had not paid much attention to the Devils until this series. One thing really stood out is how well Hischier and Hughes have developed. In comparison, Lafreniere and Kakko look like late round scrubs. Should both of them being playing larger roles by now or were they overrated prospects?
  15. Devils had 63 points last season. Now they look like a potential cup challenger. It can be done but requires committed ownership and skilled management. Not sure Anaheim has either
  16. Have to wonder if Ullmark makes those last two saves. In the OT, the Panthers looked like the superior team. Not the best time for the Bruins to have their first three game losing streak of the season.
  17. Game isn’t over yet but I can’t remember the last time I saw a coach pull as panicked a move as Montgomery did in swapping goalies.
  18. I get the too many men, but how was that slash and roughing not called against the Bruins?
  19. Watching the Bruins and Panthers and 25% of the defensemen playing are former ducks. Add in Haakenpaa, Klingberg, Manson, Theodore and there are a lot of former duck defensemen in the playoffs
  20. And now Hyman scores off his chin.
  21. Watching the Kings Oil game and I am stunned by the lack of positional defense and quality goaltending from both teams. It’s like watching the run and gun western conference games from the late 1980’s.
  22. So I am a little confused by this. Shouldn’t the NHL coach be in place first? Don’t we want that coach to be determining the overall philosophy of play throughout the entire organization? I would think you would want the same system applied in the NHL and AHL. Is Verbeek determining the style of play or will it be the head coach’s decision? If the later, then I don’t think the job will be attractive to a coach with a track record of success.
  23. So if the 12th team wins the lottery and moves up 10 spots to second, what happens when they do the lottery for the second pick. Could they get moved back down to third if someone below them wins the second lottery round?
