So you paid 6.5 million (plus the rest of Sustr) for the year to pick up a former 6th round pick and a future 4th round. I may not be a GM, but that does not sound like a good use of cash.

Regardless of who is playing defense, there is no excuse for any team to be this bad in their own end. With purely a few system changes, you could cut down goals against by 2 a game. I would prefer to see the team lose 2-0 Ana 3-1, instead of the this garbage.

I would fire Eakins just for winning the CBJ game. Should have pulled the goalie after the first period.

There is no way the league will allow Bedard to go anywhere but Chicago.

The majority of 1st and 2nd line players play less than 1.5 seasons in the AHL. Top players even less. No one is saying that having options for your 40 man roster isn’t important. But if you are spending more than a season in the AHL, you are probably and interchangeable player and not a building block.

Give it a rest. How much talent is actually playing in SD? If the players were of any value, they would be in Anaheim by now. With rare exception do impact players spend more that a part of a season in the AHL. By SD’s performance recently, it doesn’t matter. There is very little future NHL talent there.

Your comment was that he would be just as involved in scratches for the Gulls than with Zegras. That’s not true, pure and simple. DiMaio has a fair bit of range and decision making ability on the Gulls. If PV spends an hour a week speaking with him, then he needs to reset his priorities

That’s not true at all. There is a GM for the Gulls. Verbeek is not spending any time worrying about the Gull scratches. The only concern he has is the Ducks roster and finding places for all of the 40 man roster to play. That can be in Anaheim, Tulsa, SD or elsewhere. One of the biggest complaints I have is when teams are too concerned about the chemistry on their farm teams. I don’t care if SD is a game away from a championship. If the parent club needs the top scorer or d-man or goalie from the minors, they should be on the next bus or plane.

There is a huge difference between playing out the string and trying instill an organizational culture. You can lose games doing both, but the latter creates dividends down the road. I don’t see any improvement in the little things that will help entice players to come to Anaheim.

Sure glad our GM has the time to be involved in pulling off three way deals for players better suited for the waiver wire. What am I missing here? Is there any sense of urgency anywhere in the organization? From the owners to management to coaching to players? If the lack of activity on this board is any indication, the fans certainly aren’t invested.

Was checking standings this morning. Has an organization ever finished last in the league at the NHL, AHL and ECHL level? Anaheim is close to hitting that trifecta. I realize that your best players and prospects will spend little time in the minors, but that stat does not seem to speak well about organizational depth. We may be looking at a 5-10 year rebuild if Bedard does not end up in Anaheim.

I want them to set clear expectations for performance and then follow through if they are not met. The fact that they allowed a toxic situation to persist with GMBM for as long as they did is testament to their lack of attention to the franchise.

You back up the armored truck and dump a load of cash at Trotz. If you want to send a message to the team and fans, that’s the move. Promoting an assistant coach who is either responsible for the current power play or defensive line changes means you will get the same product. Bringing in an AHL coach from a mediocre SD team is even worse.

The issue that I think many are missing is that simply getting older or adding additional players does not mean the team will get better next year. There actually has to be incremental progress shown this year. Individual players need to show improvement. Systems need to be developed. A culture established throughout the organization. I see none of that happening. In fact, I see the team regressing in each of those areas. And it extends to the primary affiliate in San Diego as well. I know I am alone here, but I think there needs to be a change in ownership before there will be any improvement. Give me an involved owner any day. This passivity from the Samueli’s is dooming the team.

Look at the Flyers to see what the impact of a successful coach can have on a team with otherwise low expectations. The fact that Eakins is the second longest serving coach in the Division is absurd. He needs to be gone tomorrow and Trotz named (if he could somehow be talked into it).

The one thing that stands out to me is the incredible lack of intensity the team plays with. They seem slow and disinterested.
