  1. Lindholm is the guy they should have kept. And they should have moved on from Eakins after the 2021/22 season. Those are 100% on GMPV.
  2. But most of the concern over whether or not GMPV is doing a good job are hinging on this upcoming season. You have to let that play out, let the TDL play out, look at the 2 new coaching hires, see how SD and ANA play this season. I think we will have a much better idea of whether or not he's the guy after we have watched the Gulls and Ducks play this season, and what moves and line-up decisions are made during the season.
  3. Not ready to fully judge GMPV when we are not yet 24 months removed from 13 years of a two-time loser at NHL GM (don't come at me with GMBM's "successes", he rode big coattails, and his mistakes far outweighed his successes) and 4 years of a two-time loser at NHL HC.
  4. He easily could. Talent is not his shortcoming.
  5. He absolutely played that way before he came to the NHL, and has intermittently since arriving in ANA. Even his pre-draft scouting reports talked about his willingness to engage physically, not as a hallmark of his game, but as a lesser component. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/424453/trevor-zegras https://lastwordonsports.com/hockey/2019/04/07/trevor-zegras-scouting-report-2019-nhl-draft-8/ https://puckprose.com/2019/05/28/2019-nhl-draft-prospect-profile-trevor-zegras-scouting-report/ https://thehockeynews.com/news/what-to-expect-from-mega-prospect-trevor-zegras-in-the-nhl https://www.thedraftanalyst.com/2019-nhl-draft/2019-draft-profile-c-trevor-zegras/ That WJC where he went off points-wise, he was all over the ice, disrupting plays on defense, bodying opponents seemingly every shift. Not like Tom Wilson, but kinda like Brad Marchand. Super pest, Super prick, Super annoying. He needs more weight/strength to be able to knock guys off pucks, but he doesn't to get in an opponent's way, break up a play, tie up an attacker. It's what scouts/coaches/analysts/commentators always talk about with young players in the league: what are you doing when you don't have the puck? You can't float.
  6. I don't mean annoying in the yapping way so much, though. Chirping is definitely part of the game, but I mean annoying more in the sense of always getting in your way, constantly lifting sticks and battling for position, not passing up chances to body an opponent, staying in your face all night and taking away time and space. Just those little things that make a game much more of a grind. Last season games against the Ducks were like summer scrimmages. Zegras 100% has that in his game, he just needs to dial it up way more.
  7. Zegras McTavish Drysdale LaCombe He's not gonna hold kids down who can play. He's gonna hold kids down who are not yet ready to play.
  8. Kassian is being looked at as a possibility because the Ducks top players are not hard to play against. He's not some magic pill, it's just a type of guy GMPV might want in the mix. Zegras, Terry, McTavish, Fowler, Drysdale. Those guys are not pricks. Not annoying to play against. That's gonna be one of Cronin's biggest tasks. Get these skill guys to be assholes to play against. It shouldn't be hard to get guys who have pride to play with huge chips on their shoulders, seeing as they are the laughing stock of the league and have been a doormat for years. Time to stop letting the rest of the league wipe their feet on your back.
  9. The argument for a guy like Kassian - and it's not a minor one - is that this team was soft as baby poo last season. So they need a new direction (hopefully got it) and they needed some bite. Killorn and Gudas and Lyubushkin might provide enough, with Vatrano, but some guys on the roster need to be bigger assholes on the ice. McTavish, Jones, even Zegras needs to get more annoying in terms of playing against him. Hockey is a chap ass game, probably more than any other major sport.
  10. True. This year's F group seems more competitive than last year's blueline, in terms of available spots.
  11. Honestly, I'd rather see Silf on the 4th line or LTIR'd. Who knows, maybe he bounces back this season, but he looks about done as far as the NHL is concerned. Silf/Carlsson/Strome ? or Carlsson/Strome/Silf ? or Jones-McGinn/Strome/Silf (if Carlsson doesn't stick) ? I guess I could see that as a 3rd line. Very meh.
  12. That's pretty sad that I forgot him. I think I was moving guys around and he got lost in the shuffle!😂
  13. I'm actually hoping that Cronin gets them to play a much feistier brand of hockey.
  14. But looking at my lineup, the only F's who are gonna play in your face and be a pain in the ass are Killorn, Vatrano, possibly Jones. Might want one more guy.
  15. Leason? Carrick? McGinn? Silf? Depends upon injury and where guys are slotting in the lineup and who might go down on waivers to SD. With Carlsson and Zegras they would have 13 F's, not counting Kassian. I'm not a fan of Kassian, btw. My ideal lineup at this point with no new additions would be: Killorn/Zegras/Terry Henrique/McTavish/Vatrano Regenda/Carlsson/Silfverberg McGinn/Carrick/Jones Leason You can shift around all kinds of combos with that group. C - Zegras, McTavish, Carlsson, Henrique, Strome, Carrick LW - Killorn, Vatrano, Zegras, McTavish, Henrique, McGinn, Jones, Silfverberg, Regenda RW - Terry, Killorn, Vatrano, Strome, Silfverberg, Regenda, Jones, Carrick, McGinn, Leason
  16. Puts the D count up to 9, but with names like Hagg, White, and Lacombe. Gudas, Fowler, Drysdale, Lyubushkin, Brodie, Lijlgren. They would not have a problem with too many capable Dmen. They actually are a little light on capable NHL Dmen right now. And you ALWAYS need to be deep on defense.
  17. Yeah, I'd do that. Take a flyer on Robertson turning into an NHL player. Help the D for a year, let the kids have a season in SD to get more ready.
  18. The only thing that makes sense for TOR is getting cap compliant. And Vatrano could fit on the 3rd line at either W. If you consider that they may have Carlsson or Zegras play LW, then moving Vatrano may not have that large of an impact: LW - Killorn, Zegras/Carlsson, Henrique, Robertson, McGinn, Jones C - Zegras/Carlsson, McTavish, Strome, Henrique, Carrick, Lundestrom (around February) RW - Terry, Regenda, Killorn, Strome, McGinn, Jones, Leason, Carrick And adding Liljgren and Brodie gives the kids one more season to cook. Brodie is a UFA after this season, Lijlgren a RFA. It doesn't make a ton of sense, but if I squint I could see it, maybe not exactly as laid out, but close.
  19. I think Brodie is mentioned because somehow the Leafs need to get about $2.2 mil off their books - just to be at the cap, less if they want a little wiggle room - by Opening Night to be cap complaint, and looking at their roster he is the only one that makes sense. I still say Vatrano and a 1st and a 2nd for Nylander extended. 😂
  20. My point wasn't that they had their 1st OA on the team when they won, just that they had one. STL and WSH built their teams with a lot of good drafting outside the Top 10 and acquisitions, but they also had Pietrangelo at 4th OA/Ovi 1st OA and Backstrom 4th OA. PIT, CHI, TBL, COL built their teams in no small part with Top 3 draft picks. 9 of 18 Cups since 2006, 9 of 15 since 2009. What I was trying to get to is two-fold: 1. The Ducks need Carlsson and McTavish to hit 2. Looking at past Cup winners, if you add the drafting of Zegras (9th OA), Drysdale (6th OA), and Mintyukov (10th OA) to Carlsson and McTavish, the Ducks seem to have the foundation of something that could play out very well, especially with other drafted pieces like Zellweger and Gaucher. They don't have that 1st OA guy, but they have some good kids who could be the core of a very good team.
  21. Not sure how much weight to give this: https://www.nhltraderumor.com/anaheim-ducks-and-toronto-maple-leafs-working-on-a-trade/
