FOWLer, due to his contract and team's politics, can't be on 3rd pairing. He is our legend.

Rumors are Zegras to Montreal for David Reinbacher. Hm.... I don't know. If this is true, this team will never stop rebuilding. Not in my lifetime.

Maybe PV is purposefully keeping him in the rumor mill to kind of get him to work harder. Like "you want to not be talked about in the rumors? Then work harder and those rumors will disappear I guarantee it!" Just a thought.

4 Suitors With ‘Premium Goalies’ for Devil’s No. 10 Pick: Report (msn.com)

“There are four premium goaltenders to target in the offseason, and you could probably get any of the four for that No. 10 pick,” Duhatschek wrote. “Realistically, with a few restrictions and quibbles, their targets should be, in order: Jacob Markstrom of the Calgary Flames, Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins, John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks, and Juuse Saros of the Nashville Predators.”

Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald confirmed that New Jersey will trade the No. 10 pick if the return yields a valuable asset.

So Gibson is still considered a "premium goaltender" in some circles. That's good for us. He's probably still a good goaltender and likely needs a change of scenery. I'd trade Gibby for sure.

There are so many good stories to root for and bad ones to root against in this series...

With Florida, love rooting for a first time Cup for a franchise. Love rooting for a team that on paper is just solid top to bottom, sets a good precedent. Love rooting for us to get a 31st pick over 32nd (lololol it doesn't matter). Rooting for Montour. Personally, I do like Tkachuk. Love seeing solid goaltending. Love Paul Maurice. Rooting for Kulikov and Mahura a bit too i guess, even though mahura i don't think has played a game in the playoffs.

With Edmonton, would be amazing to see Canada get their first cup. Love McDavid and Draisaitl. Truly would love to see Rico and Carrick get a cut, and Perry get another one. But it's so hard to root for Kane. And also I don't love how weak they are in goaltending and defensive -- BUT I must admit, they are being coached very well and I have been impressed by their defensive side of things at times this playoffs. And even their goaltending. And Bouchard is having a CRAZY good playoffs. So it's not entirely just a top-heavy team with 2 of the best players ever carrying the team. Also if they win, kinda love how often "fire head coach beginning of season, win stanley cup" would become a thing...

I still think I'm rooting for the Oilers....but i'll see how I feel as I watch and who I seem to be rooting for as the game goes on.

I'd have to think this is perry's last go. With pavelski retiring I think this is also the end of the Perry era. So going out on a winning note would be awesome!

Let the Zegras rumors fly again. Remember I always said I'd be shocked if he was still on this team next year.

    https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/anaheim-ducks-listening-once-again-on-trevor-zegras-john-gibson-1.2130332

"TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun writes in The Athletic(opens in a new tab) that Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek is listening to offers for Zegras and Gibson, though moving either is far from a sure thing."

    • Thanks 1
  5. We need to be rooting for Edmonton. I saw someone comment and had to look it up and it turns out that the additional 5th round pick gets upgraded to a 4th rd pick if they win the cup. So not that great but hey at this point it would be something. So we'd be looking at the #32 pick and #128 instead of #31 and #155 of they lose.

Dang it, it's for 2025.... eh better than nothing. Lol

Then who would be the 3rd LHD? LaCombe or Vaakanainen? I wouldn't sacrifice Zellweger to keep either of them.

Trading Zelly is asking for another Theodore like situation it feels like. Give him time to grow and see what he turns into.

The comparison of stats between two goalies on the same team doesn't really matter much here. We're talking about a goalie who plays on better teams vs someone who played on worse teams. Of course Freddy's numbers will be better. Dostal was better than Gibby this season but his stats aren't that much better. Stolarz also played the lesser opponents if I remember correctly (because we've discussed that during that season). Gibby has his faults no doubt. But the comparison between keeping Gibby and Freddy I think is probably settled in that we made the correct choice but the team was on a downhill trajectory. No matter who we kept though it wouldn't have mattered too much as we ultimately entered a rebuild and both would have suffered the same fate.

Anderson in the last six seasons:

    238 games, 29 shots faced avg. per game, .914 Sv%, 2.57 GAA

Gibson in the last six seasons:

    299 games, 32 shots faced avg. per game, .903 Sv%, 3.26 GAA

For goalies that played more than 120 games over those 6 seasons, Anderson ranks 11th in Sv% and 9th in GAA, out of 53 total goalies.

Gibson, respectively, ranks 43rd and 50th.

Yeah but I'm going to keep repeating it (and I don't think that was your intention) that Gibson has played on far worse teams over the past six years so of course his numbers are going to be worse. Anderson has played for Toronto and the canes, two very good teams especially lately. Compared to the dumpster fire that the Ducks have been.

Assistant coaches brown and Johnson officially out (to the joy of these boards). New GM for the Gulls also

Finally an end to one of the worst eras of Ducks history! Should have been let go with Eakins.

anyone got a good tldr link for this thing?

That's interesting. How is the iihf going to enforce a $1.1 million fine to a Russian league/ organization? Couldn't they just ignore it? Or they likely will just bad the Russian players and teams from competing in any international tournaments.

Might as well start a thread about the NHL's newest team!

Looks like we have some possible names for the Utah "(blanks)."  Here's some excerpts from yesterdays newspaper:

"Ownership of the NHL's team in Utah have given fans twenty choices to vote on for the franchise's new name..."

"...the team will have a name starting with 'Utah.'"

"The inaugural season will feature jerseys with the name of the state on them, with a name, logo and colors to debut for 2025-26..."

"The options (name) provided for are..."

"Frost, Ice, Powder, Mountaineers, Freeze, Mammoth, Black Diamonds, Blast, Caribou, Blizzard, Swarm, Hive, Outlaws, Yeti, Squall, Fury, Glaciers, Canyons, Venom, and "HC" which stands for "Hockey Club."

    ---------------------------

OK - MY thoughts.  Eeesh, some of theses names are terrible - ha ha!  Given Mormon association with honeybees, I'll predict the chosen name will be the "Utah Hive."  My personal choice would be the "Utah Mountaineers."

Terrible names. Out of those I think the Yeti and Blizzard could work. Blizzard is an instant Dairy Queen affiliation and could be a sponsor. When they score 5 goals you get a free blizzard. Sounds win-win to me!

Or a Wendy's one with Utah Frost-ies lol too many others to choose from as well!

I don´t know how reliable these people´s scouting reports are but reading this, I´m not sure whether we shouldn´t just draft Eiserman (if we keep our pick).

Amazing shot, lethal on the PP, needs a playmaker (which we have). Maybe he doesn´t play D but we so desperately need goal scoring.

    https://www.draftnation.com/articles/nhl-draft-profile-cole-eiserman

Also just noticed that Ilya Bryzgalov´s son is eligible for the draft. He´s a goalie

We know one team that probably would never select him... the Flyers lol

Is he a character like his dad, if so I say we take that shot. Would be cool.

I REALLY would like to bring back Montour.

Ironically enough bringing back Monty wouldn't be a bad idea. But would he even want to come here after his last tenure with Bob? But it would be a really nice upgrade to the defense. Here's a question, would Monty be our #1 defenseman instead of Fowler? He's not a true #1 but given our current personnel he'd probably become that instantly. No?

Ideally of course Minty becomes our true number 1 in the future. But what about a Monty-Minty top pairing next season?

    M&M

    Fowler- Gudas

Zelly- Lindstrom (Or whoever we decide to keep out of the remaining ufa/rfa camp)

In the past two offseasons, the Ducks have signed:

    • Jon Klingberg for $7 million (top 10 UFA)
    • Frank Vatrano for 3 yrs, $3.65 per yr (top 30 UFA)
    • Ryan Strome for 5 yrs, $5 million per yr (top 20 UFA)
    • Radko Gudas for 4 yrs, $4 million per yr (top 30 UFA)
    • Alex Killorn for 5 yrs, $6.25 million per yr (top 10 UFA)

It is patently absurd to claim that the Ducks have not done anything significant in free agency.

Killorn was one of the biggest gets this past off season. Not only did we sign him on the first day of FA but to one of the highest cap hits among the FA. We have spent 25.9 million in cap from those guys alone. If we don't include Klingberg (who's no longer with us) then we have currently spent 18.9 million in cap from those players listed. That comes out to be almost 23% of our current cap. That's not nothing. We've been willing to spend the money the past two seasons I don't see why we wouldn't be able to pick up a good player again this time. We don't have to get the biggest fish but we've been getting decent sized ones for sure.

I realize that I've been a Debbie Downer about this team for awhile now, but I honestly feel it's safe to say that the Samueli's are going to be putting their focus and their $$$$$$$$ into this OC Vibe project for the next several years, and the Ducks are going to be somewhat of an afterthought.  This is a massive undertaking, and it will carry a great expense.  Eventually they'll have Revenue once it's all completed, but that looks to be several years from now, and in the meantime, they're going to be throwing a lot of money at it, and probably keeping the Ducks payroll at a modest level.

Maybe. Or maybe we'll be hitting the cap in a few seasons. If we're going to spend in FA this season for someone notable then I don't think we'll be able to keep it very modest for long. Picking someone up now and our young guys needing new contacts should get us closer to the cap.

I wouldn't rule out the oilers either depending how their season ends. I wouldn't count them out yet because it's still early but with Draisaitl maybe playing hurt (again) anything can happen. The nucks' confidence is probably sky high and they might get Demko back.

Don't think the oilers would make major changes like Toronto though. If anything the oilers and jersey look at goalies. The Leafs just haven't been doing anything and they need to shake up that core 4. The canes will probably look to shake things up. The Kings hopefully end up in a gutter lol. The stars have already been active so it's too soon for major changes. Probably Tampa needs to make changes because their window is closing fast. Pens and caps are headed in the direction of the red wings of past, they need to rebuild.

The Hurricanes are the team that is expected to do damage in the postseason after great regular seasons but can't get it done. Made six straight playoffs. Been to the conference finals twice but were swept in both. Won the Metro in 3 out of the last four years while having a great coach and always with one of the best defenses in the league. They don't play a soft game and have quality offensive talent. They have been outstanding at the draft also. It's just crazy to me that they are on the verge of getting swept in the second round.

Are we looking at two potential teams looking for big changes this of season? Toronto being the other. Maybe we could swing a trade. Oh wait, there's also the Kings lol

ALL DAY LONG!!! I’d even throw Jones in to make that deal. 😁

Then we'd have to get something back to balance the trade! Terry and Jones for Marner and a 1st! I think that's fair, even though we're getting ripped off in the deal...
