  1. Yeah, I think that Murray has until next year's trade deadline to position himself for the Expansion Draft but the Ducks are in a much better position than they were when Vegas came in. Of course, that's due in large part that we don't nearly have the amount of quality players to protect this time around. I'd rather move a quality defensemen for high picks than for Marner-esque player at this point (even if were possible that we could land a high-end player). The Ducks are missing ALOT and adding additional picks, especially 1st rounders, should be a priority especially for the 2022 draft. Bite the bullet in the short-term and load up for the future.
  2. Yep, $1.45 mil/aav which is right in line with Ritchie ($1.49 mil) got and Terry gets $1.55 mil in the final year. Not bad at all. If Terry can put up 25-30 pts then it's a solid contract for the Ducks and he's still an RFA when it's up. I'm just waiting for the day when we have a player worth giving a max extension to!
  3. Even better then! The Boston pick is going to be a very late first rounder and I don't think there's that much greater value compared to an early 2nd round pick. If Rakell straight up could get us #8 then I'd do it, but Murray doesn't seem to have any intention of moving him at this point and he is in no rush to. I don't think that Rakell + late 1st get you into the top-3 but it's not like the lottery teams are going to trade those picks anyway. Was the last time a team traded a top-5 pick when Brian Burke drafted the Sedin Twins? An ideal situation is one where we land a top-5 pick with someone else's pick via a trade like Colorado and Ottawa have done recently lol. Yeah, but I think he still has a good amount of value given his contract and the cache of being a multiple 30-goal scorer at age 27. I think it will take more than just him to land the #8 pick, and if anything, Murray is hoping he finds his old form and increases his value for a possible future trade.
  4. That would have to be one HUGE favor to get Kotkaniemi. He's only 20 and I doubt Montreal is even remotely close to Dylan Strome'n him but hey, why not kick the tires? Yeah, in 2016 the rumor was Fowler to Montreal and the 9th overall pick being involved. Looking back at that draft class and who we could have selected had we traded Fowler, the only real stand out as of now is Charlie McCavoy. That's assuming Murray would have picked him, if not then I'm glad the trade didn't go down. I think that Murray should check in on Buffalo and see if they can get the 8th overall. Something involving Rakell and our Boston pick could be an entertaining offer. Heck, see if we can trade for it straight up by taking on Okposo's contract lol. Imagine possibly landing some combination or Rossi/Drysdale/Holtz/Raymond. It's not Lafreniere or Byfield but I'd be stoked on that. Add another very high pick in 2021 and the rebuild looks much more promising. I like this too but reality is a hellscape where LA has the #2 pick! Note: Looks like the draft is tentatively set for October 6th.
  5. I like this idea also, especially if Drysdale and Rossi are off the board. Trading back to get an additional pick while getting a guy like Quinn would be an extremely savvy move by Murray if he isn't really high on any player that's still available. Though, I can't see Murray doing this lol. Another option is to see what Buffalo's asking price would be for the 8th overall pick. If any team is going to move a high pick, my money is on them even though they just fired pretty much their entire front office. Eichel seems to be close to his breaking point with the team and may be just a season away of demanding a trade if they don't make the playoffs. Any trade would almost certainly involve Rakell, but I would inquire about it.
  6. These are my top 5 that I'd pick for the Ducks if available. (I'm leaving Byfield, Lafreniere, Stutzle off because I don't see any scenarios where either fall to #6. Even Drysdale being available for us is not likely, but here we go: 1. Rossi 2. Drysdale 3. Raymond 4. Holtz 5. Quinn 6. Perfetti Here are my rankings of who I think Murray will take if available: 1. Drysdale 2. Holtz 3. Raymond 4. Rossi 5. Quinn 6. Lundell
  7. I found this interesting note about Jack Quinn: For reference, Marco Rossi (who should go in the top ten this year) had 81 assists for the Ottawa 67s this season – so it is important to note that Quinn’s 52 goals was not the direct product of that. Anyways, finally – here’s a look at what Mike Morreale had to say for NHL.com on March 20: So, I don't think the chemistry factor is too big, but that is very impressive for Quinn and could make him a sleeper pick that moves up a bit further than he's currently projected. I would love to know where Murray has Quinn on his draft board. Unfortunately, Byfield isn't falling to the Ducks and we'll have to deal with him as a King. LA could just trade and shift to wing the excess of centers that they have.
  8. Agreed, I think the Ducks are going to get a good player and that this draft is projected to be a relatively deep one. Unfortunately, the Ducks still need to get a franchise level talent (John Gibson notwithstanding) and will have to wait at least another year before having a chance again. Not sure how the 2021 class is shaping up, but if there was a clear cut top pick then we probably would have an idea of who that is at this point. There's a Finnish center named Aatu Raty that is the early favorite but maybe it's like 2017 where there becomes no consensus pick and the 3rd, 4th and 5th selections (Heiskanen, Makar, Pettersson) are actually better than the top-2 (Hirscheir, Patrick). Of course, that would be the draft lottery that the Ducks would win lol. It's why I'm hoping the draft gods are smiling down on us in 2022 when someone like Shane Wright is available. The harsh reality is that the Ducks are going to most likely be a lottery team again in 2021 and 2022, so hopefully we finally catch a big break with those stupid ping pong balls.
  9. If Perfetti goes in the top 5 then the Ducks will get to pick Holtz or Rossi/Stutzle. Personally, I’d take the ladder option over Holtz. I’m high on Rossi and think he’s got the entire package, sans height, but like Perfetti, I don’t see Murray targeting him either. If shooters are the prime focus, it’s Holtz and then Quinn, IMO. I agree with dtsdlaw and Gorbachev that defense isn’t really an issue for me since this team needs scoring however it can get it. If whoever we draft is tucking 30+ goals a year then I don’t care if he’s having a tea party rather than back checking.
  10. I chalk that up to most people not following the Ducks or knowing Barstool Bob Murray. Perfetti is very good and ranked in the 6-10 range but I don't think there's any real chance that Murray takes him. I think Detroit is the wild card at #4 if they don't take Rossi/Stutzle/Drysdale. If they take Raymond or Perfetti then things get interesting for us. One thing about Murray though is that over the last two drafts, his first picks were pretty predictable depending on who was on the board (Lundestrom, Zegras). With what we know about Murray, what he's said about the draft and how picks 1-5 pan out, Holtz is the safest bet to be the pick. That said, I am all for unexpected chaos.
  11. The Kings will get a guy who might end up being the best player in the draft though. Them getting #2 is actually pretty awful for the Ducks, not only just for within the Pacific but in the West as well. Murray and co. better have and get some top-tier prospects within the next couple of drafts. I'm already looking ahead to the Shane Wright Sweepstakes of 2022.
  12. I'd be surprised if Ottawa doesn't take Rossi with one of their picks and think that the other pick would be Stutzle or Drysdale. If Stutzle is available, then I agree that we should take him, but will Murray? My gut tells me he's wedded to a RH shooter if he can't get Drysdale. Maybe I was given too much hope in Drysdale falling to #6. Ottawa can always just trade one of their other defensemen to address other needs.
  13. Good point. I didn't realize that JBD is playing in the NCAA and hasn't signed. That could certainly complicate things. I don't see why JBD wouldn't Schultz them and force them to trade his rights if Ottawa takes Drysdale. My feeling is that Ottawa would be hitching their wagon more to Chabot and Brannstrom, but adding Drysdale could give them the most dynamic blue line in the NHL. Ottawa is going to have a prospect pool only rivaled by LA after this draft. I put it at 65-35 that Drysdale is gone by #6 now lol. I wonder what Yzerman will do with Detroit's pick. You'd think that it would be Stutzle, but he drafted Seider at #6 last year and has no problem going off the board. What it Stutzle is available at #6??
  14. This is what the Ducks should be doing going forward, IMO: Acquiring numerous first and second round picks for the rebuild. LA and Ottawa seem to understand the concept and hopefully Murray/Madden will follow suit in the near future. I think if Ottawa didn't have Chabot and Branstrom, not to mention Thomson and Docker in the pipeline then Drysdale would be a slam-dunk for them. Drysdale being a RHD is why it's possible that they take him, not to mention he'd be their best RHD prospect even with all of those guys being 1st round picks. Chabot is a franchise defensemen and Brannstrom as one of the highest ranked D prospects in the league. I think that they are taking Rossi at #3 and Stutzle if he falls past Detroit. Though, given how the lottery turned out, I think the Ducks have a much better chance at getting Drysdale now. I don't think Perfetti is on Murray's radar since Murray's made it a point that he's looking for shooters which would be Holtz. Jack Quinn I think is a good 2B shooting option but can't see Murray reaching like that.
  15. I definitely agree with that about Drysdale more so than Holtz because Drysdale has the benefit of being the clear cut-top ranked defensemen in the draft. He checks all of the boxes that Murray wants in a defensemen, especially for the PP. I'm pretty high on Rossi and would actually take him over Drysdale at #6, but I think he's gone before then. That said, Murray is likely targeting a natural shooters/scorers if he can't get Drysdale. In that sense, I think that it goes Holtz, then Quinn/Perfetti with the question being how large of a gap is there and would it be enough that you don't consider moving back to get additional picks. That's the only thing I can see that could make things interesting even though I don't think Murray would do something as bold as that with a top-10 pick. Ultimately, we both agree that Drysdale or Holtz are going to be the picks and can't complain about either of them lol. I'm still so piddleed that LA got #2! 2020 continues to be awful.
  16. Actually, after looking at Detroit's prospect/depth chart, there's a chance that they don't take Drysdale since they drafted Seider last year and have Filip Hronek on the right side for the foreseeable future. Ottawa is set on the left side with Chabot and Brannstrom with Zaitsev and ultimately Bernard-Docker and Lassi Thomson on the right side, so I think you're right that Drysdale falling is more likely then I originally thought. LA would have been a good landing spot for Drysdale also if they hadn't gotten #2 OA. Still think that Drysdale is the pick if he's available, if not then Holtz would be the guy. In regards to Quinn, I think it all depends how high Murray is on him compared to Holtz/Raymond. If Murray thinks that there isn't much of a gap between those guys, then him trading back a spot or two in order to get some more assets, then drafting one of them would be an extremely savvy move.
  17. Yeah, if Drysdale falls to #6 then I think he's the Ducks' pick. Though, I agree with all 3 of the mock drafts that the 1-5 picks will likely involve Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle, Rossi and Drysdale. The one's who chose us to take Perfetti don't have too much of an understanding of the Ducks or Bob Murray lol. One possible wrinkle is that CHL seasons could start up again prior the NHL draft. If that happens, who knows how that could effect team's draft boards. Whoever the Ducks select isn't likely to make the NHL right away and would be going back to juniors or Sweden for another year. Holtz is still the likely pick to me, followed by Raymond. A possible long shot, dark horse pick could be a guy like Jack Quinn but I don't think Murray would reach that far. I'll be shocked if the Kings don't take Byfield unless they feel like they have the next 1C lock in their system which is still way too early to tell, IMO. If the Kings do want Drysdale or Stutzle instead of Byfield, then they should see if Ottawa would trade up a spot to get him..
  18. I can't see Ottawa moving either of their picks, let alone to us since we don't have the assets for it. They are bad for a reason and Melnyk is cheap. Those picks could go a long way of building their core to go along with Chabot, Tkachuk and Brannstrom. The Kings would probably move one of their other centers along with shifting one them to the wing since Byfield would become their highest rated prospect to presumably take over for Kopitar as their future 1C. Maybe if Chiarelli was their GM, they'd do something like that but the Ducks got boned and LA struck gold in this lottery. Time to set our sights on Shane Wright in 2022!
  19. Yeah, and it's an absolute joke that could happen, but we are living in dumb times, so this fits in pretty well lol. Yeah. It sucks something awful. The Kings are absolutely loaded going forward, so we need to hope that they have a high rate of busts. Their center depth is unreal with Byfield, Turcotte, Kupari, Vilardi, Anderson-Dolan, Thomas, Dudas, Madden and they have guys like Kaliyev and Fagemo on the wings. They have solid D prospects as well with Bjornfot, Klague, Spence and Anderson, so they more than enough assets to trade and upgrade their roster. Today's results just made the odds of the Ducks hanging any type of banner up in Honda Center much worse in the future. Nashville never got over the hump but they have gotten closer to the Cup than the Ducks have in recent years. I hate this draft!
  20. Geez. I don’t know if you could pick two more undeserving teams
  21. Yeah. It's not a knock on Holtz and I think he could be a good player. I'd be happy to take him at 6th but Byfield has the potential to be the superstar that we desperately need and if he does pan out, then Ducks are pretty screwed having to go against him for the next decade +. The Ducks' road back to a Stanley Cup just got a lot harder, IMO.
  22. I think that Holtz is going to be our pick because I doubt Rossi or Drysdale would fall to 6th for us to take. Plus, Murray has said that he's targeting shooters, so I'd think he's our pick over a guy like Raymond. It's either Holtz or Raymond for us, IMO. The real gut punch is the fact that LA will get Byfield. That is just awful for the Ducks' going forward.
  23. I’m going to be sick. LA gets Byfield.
  24. Yep. I agree with this. We will get a player with a very good ceiling in the 3-8 range but getting a player with a great ceiling of one of the top-2 picks would make quite a difference.
  25. Been waiting on thIs lottery for almost 3 months. All I know is that I’m popping bottles if we are draftIng ahead of LA and drowning my sorrows if they get Lafreniere or Byfield. Also, Uncle Gary owes us one.
