  1. This is more surprising than the Shero firing. Vegas is doing fine and is only 3 points back of the division lead also. Nothing in the team’s statement indicates that it’s for anything other than hockey reasons either. I don’t get it either.
  2. If Andersson could be had for that price or even slightly more then I would absolutely do it but I don't think that the Rangers would entertain an offer like that. At least not now anyway if they are going to trade him. If he couldn't crack a rebuilding Rangers team as the 7th overall pick from two years ago then it's a bit of a red flag. Especially when Chytil who was drafted 21st overall that same year seems to have surpassed him. You think he'd be getting decent opportunities and NHL minutes right now the way Steel is. It's weird to think that the Rangers would be misusing and mismanaging him to create the a situation where he wants out. If he has a real attitude problem, then I don't see Murray as the type of GM to actively try and trade for him. I agree that the comparison aren't apples to apples with Steel but Andersson's draft stock and expectations were and still are much higher, even accounting for him coming out of Europe. My broader point was seeing people ripping into a young guy likeSteel for not living up to their expectations as the 30th overall pick. Imagine what their reactions would be if he was the 7th overall pick and on top of it, was trying to force his way out of town. Steel is at least on his expected development trajectory while Andersson currently isn't.
  3. Us and the Kings weren’t projected to contend in the West at all and SJ seemed like an easy lock to finish top-3 in the division. I just hope LA and SJ hurt that their draft stock more than anything lol.
  4. Is there any team that has been a more surprising disappointment so far this season than San Jose (I know, hate to see it)? I know that their goaltending is brutal I'm still surprised that they are actually last in the West right now with the third worst goal differential in the entire league and the 6th fewest goals. Rough times for hockey in California
  5. Sure, I'd kick the tires on him but I don't see Andresson being moved anytime soon. Seems like he's taking the Puljujarvi route but also has a year left on his ELC and the Rangers would still own his rights. So, I'd bet that the Rangers will simply wait to see what Puljuarvi's trade value ultimately is before moving Andersson. I'd be surprised if another team made a good enough offer that the Rangers would accept at this point with his value being so low. This quite a blow to the Rangers rebuild, especially with him expected to be a key part of it as a 7th overall pick. Can you imagine these boards if Steel, Jones, or Terry were selected that high lol? Steel has actually been a much more productive player so far at both levels.
  6. Taylor Hall to Arizona. The pacific just got more fun!
  7. Ahhh, good point. I thought that the player selected had to be under contract for the expansion season. Yeah, I don’t see why an expansion team would select a UFA either unless they were going to sign them. Seems like quite a risk
  8. You’re right, if he’s extended prior to the ED then he’s eligible to be selected. I believe that Thornton waited until after the Vegas ED to re-sign with SJ so that he wouldn’t take up a protection slot. If Gudbranson is unsigned, then he’d be a UFA and Seattle can just offer him a contract and wouldn’t be selecting him from Anaheim. Unless he really steps up his game, I don’t see the Ducks using up a slot to protect a 3rd pairing defender.
  9. I agree with nieder that waiting until the offseason when he’s a UFA would make the most sense if the team wanted Vats back. While the Ducks don’t have any RFA’s due significant money, they still need to sign Guhle and Terry while also filling two more D, 3 forward and a back-up goalie spot. If the cap goes up say, 3 mil then would have just under 14 mil in space. I don’t see ownership spending on Vats without moving out another contract even if they can make it all work with Kesler on LTIR.
  10. Guhle’s flashes have been few and far between lately. He looked particularly bad against LA although he was paired with Holzer. He’s got a ways to go if he’s going to be a top-4 quality defender. Hall is going to want at least Panarin money (in the $11 mil range). There’s no rational reason to trade for him unless you think he’s the missing piece to Ducks cup run. Dtsdlaw is right that the Devil to trade for would be Vatanen but even that doesn’t make sense for the Ducks to do given the Gudbranson trade and his expiring contract. Maybe another Henrique swap lol!
  11. The more I watch Justin Faulk play, the happier I am that he didn’t want to come here
  12. We can ask the same question about the Ducks lol, although I think that the Ducks have played better overall hockey, sans special teams. Edmonton's PP is the best in the league and they have a top-5 PK. If Neal is able to be a scoring threat going forward then they are going to be right in the mix for the playoffs. Their 5v5 play doesn't seem to be that great, so I expect them to course correct a bit.
  13. Unless you can trade him to help upgrade the roster then I don’t think that he should be moved. Jones and Comtois haven’t played well enough to force him out of the lineup or guarantee their own spots yet. Ritchie not living up to his draft slot doesn’t mean that the Ducks should just jettison him.
  14. It's way too early into the season and their careers to really worry. None of these guys have played even half an NHL season to this point. Not to mention that the team is rebuilding with a new coach. They still have plenty of time to learn and develop while being given every chance to succeed. If after two full seasons, the progression and contributions still aren't there then it's a real concern. Comtois needs time in the AHL more than anyone, which is where most people projected him to play for the majority of the season anyway.
  15. I’d take much more joy out of LA being awful if they didn’t have a stacked prospect pool and likely to be very good in the near future. The Sharks being 0-4 is fantastic but they’ve also had to play Vegas twice and Nashville which is no easy start. I still think they’ll figure it out though but I’m going to enjoy their suffering for the time being. It’s just stunning that Edmonton won a trade for once. Still hope that Connor requests a trade out of there at some point.
  16. Are the Kings already tanking lol? Is Carlyle their coach? They've been awful. And James Neal leads the league in goals. Fun start to the season so far.
  17. Vegas is not messing around this season. Crushed SJ twice already lol.
  18. The Avs now have Rantanen and McKinnon for under $16 million combined for the next 4 years. That’s just a thing of cap beauty
  19. At least we had the decency of losing Despres, Vatanen, Theodore and Montour over roughly an 18 month period lol.
  20. Oh man, $7.57 x 7 years for Spurgeon. It’s like Fenton never left. Justin Faulk’s agent must be stoked after seeing that extension.
  21. Yeah, It's the most boring time of the hockey season. I guess the Ducks tried to sign RHD Chase Priskie (this year's prized college FA) but he signed with Carolina. We can speculate more about a RHD trade with them as a result if we want lol. Nothing really left but to wait and see when the big name RFA's start signing.
  22. He’ll pull something off by drafting someone like Justin Barron in the top 10 next year lol.
  23. Yep, I thought Tampa would be too hard against the cap after having to still sign Point and Erne but this makes all the sense in the world for Shattenkirk like you said. Going to the Cup front runner is a pretty sweet deal lol. I still want Murray fired for a host of other reasons but can’t fault him on this.
  24. Shattenkirk to the Lightning. 1 year, $1.75 mil. This isn’t fair lol
  25. The Ducks are rebuilding and aren't going to come close to contending this year. Plus, I agree with Gorbachav that being a west coast team and away from his family/hometown also doesn't help the Ducks land him. A one-year, super cheap contract with Nashville seems like the best option for him not only to contend for a cup but also increase his value for a bigger pay day in free agency next year. I think that the Ducks best shot is to offer him noticeably more money and term, though he passed on both of those things to sign with the Rangers two years ago, when he was a UFA and able to pick where he wanted to play. It sucks because I think that the Ducks are one of the best fits for Shattenkirk, can offer him better money with most other teams not having the roster/cap space to aggressively go after him, but that he ultimately isn't going to sign here lol.
