  1. I’m not sure. Stevie Y in Detroit is always going to throw off mock drafts if he wants to, I think Ottawa probably goes Stutzle/Drysdale, people seem to really like Perfetti to Detroit.
  2. I think Zegras is going to be way more dynamic and sexy, but Rossi is going to be the consistent steady guy. 1 thing I absolutely love is that he’s absolutely beast at entering the zone with the puck or facilitating controlled zone entry, which the ducks are horrendous at.
  3. Rossi plays a similar game to Brayden Point, the skill level might not be the same, but he does everything at a high level. Having Zegras Rossi down the middle for the foreseeable future would be huge
  4. I think he’s probably the 4th best prospect in the draft. I don’t want to be another team that passed on a short guy who ends up being a 70+pt guy and us going damn, can’t believe we drafted xyz instead of Rossi. He’s not flashy, but he does everything so well. He’s a really toolsy player than can do anything he wants, but doesn’t do then all the time. He’s gonna get bumped off the puck and overpowered sometimes, just how it goes, but he’s the best guy and if Detroit and Sens get cold feet then we definitely shouldn’t
  5. He’s around the same size has Point P. Kane Debrincat Marchand Atkinson Johnny Hockey All those guys have found immense success. No reason Rossi can’t do it. If he’s available. You pick him, that simple.
  6. Size isn’t that important anymore, it’s your ability to minimize hard contact on you in open spaces. Rossi is a dog on the puck and he’s got the talent to boot. I think GMs have to stop drafting based on size and draft on talent, he’s the most complete player outside of the top 3. He’s great defensively, great offensively, he forecheck hard, he back checks hard, he’s got a nasty shot and can set people up. Imo there isn’t much difference between Holtz and Drysdale size wise.
  7. Seems like Marco Rossi intends to hit the NHL immediately. I wouldn’t shrug my shoulders at him, I think he’s the best player that could be available to us.
  8. And what worries me about the team is that Murray made ominous statements about making players be accountable, and that they got away with too much. I hope that doesn’t mean he’s going to interfere with how players play. Eakins seemed to let guys play their game and I think towards the middle and end of the year players really started to get it going and look better.
  9. Personally, Manson, Fowler, and Terry are fine. I think that the damage that CArlyle did to our young players cannot be over stated, the fact that he got his grubby paws on Fowler twice still makes me mad. Fowler is the most important player on this team. When he’s not in the lineup it is soooooo noticeable. I think with a better offense and a coach that lets him play his game, he’s easily a 40pt guy. Even when he’s not scoring he’s still the best defenseman on the team and probably our future captain. Manson has struggled the last couple years, but he’s still got it in him and he’s a great guy to have on your blue line. Terry being in the AHL towards the end of the season really irritated me, he’s not going to get better playing down there. He looked so much better coming back the first time, he’s so dominant on the ice with the puck. Having Terry, Zegras, Getzlaf and a Laine on a PP is my ultimate fantasy.
  10. Ducks are shedding a decent amount of salary after this next year and the year after that. I think roughly like 20+million. With Getzlaf, Jones, Steel, Heinen, and maybe Gudy as guys you resign. Laine is 22. He’s still got about 7 or so years of prime Laine. He might also age well. The idea is that Laine is that post Getzlaf core. Zegras, Laine, whoever wrote draft this year, Gibson, Fowler, Lindholm. That’s not a bad cast of guys your building around. If Jones, Comtois, Maybe Lundestrom, Tracey, etc develop nicely. That’s a lot of ifs, but no more than the if’s we bank on drafting. If anything betting on Laine is more of a sure thing. I think we can agree it most likely will not happen, I just think that if Winnipeg would take anything less than Zegras/6th you should take that deal. I think you also need to try and get going soon as your franchise goalie is still in his prime and is on an insanely good contract.
  11. The reason guys like Pettersson, Matthews, McDavid, Hughes get instant promotions to the NHL is that the teams that draft them are bad. Anaheim until 2-3 years ago were perennial Cup contenders. With The lineup we had we didn’t have meaningful opportunities to throw high end kids into the lineup. We haven’t even drafted in the top 5 since Bobby Ryan. The draft we didn’t get Crosby in...Its a shame we didn’t win a cup in the last decade of our dominance, but to be fair on Murray he hasn’t had tons of opportunities to get those types of talents in the draft, outside of the guys sprinkled into drafts that explode into the scene. Has he whiffed? Yes. He’s also done really well getting talent late in drafts. I think a guy like Sam Steel has decent value, he’s young, cheap and has some NHl games in, he can play in an NHL lineup and for a cap strapped team that needs cheap depth, taking a huge Laine/Nylander contract and giving them stability down the line up can be invaluable.
  12. I think you definitely have to think about it right? Rakell is good and is signed to a damn good contract which could raise his value to a team like Winnipeg or Toronto. He’s struggled, but he’s not far removed from god years. Manson looks like he’s probably got to be traded at this point. He’s gonna want a raise and I think you keep Lindholm over Manson. Steel could develop into a solid 2nd line guy and at worst he’s not a bad 3rd line option, which has value in itself. Winnipeg needs a RHD and depth centers. Toronto needs RHD and to get out from some contracts. I like Rakell and Manson and I’m not opposed to just keeping them, but in an opportunity to get guys like Nylander or Laine, you should at least try. Not everyday that young superstars are available for trade.
  13. I mean you’re essentially building an entirely new team. A much more expensive team. I think part of the cap era is you have to have good young players who can slot in places to alleviate the cap hits of your stars. So ideally you want max Jones, Comtois, etc in your line up on rookie deals while you have your Getzlaf’s, Laine’s etc.
  14. I think you have to look at it from different aspects. Age: Laine is 22 and produced every season he’s been here, even his worst season. Need: We’ve needed a bonafide goal scorer for as long as I can remember. Cost: So his cost is going to be high, but the question is if you can sell high on someone like Manson and how they value a guy like Steel/Lundestrom/Jones/Comtois/etc. Does Laine make this team amazing? No, but he jumpstarts a pretty middling pipeline of prospects. Suddenly you have Laine, Zegras, and one of Drysdale, Rossi, Holtz, Perfetti in your system. Now your young core is pretty darn good imo. Laine is just that good. Does he have his downsides? Yes, but we have plenty two-way potential guys. I we’ve lacked an explosive player and potentially adding 2 of them to your line up in Laine and Zegras this year or next quickens the rebuild. You could say the same for Nylander. We have way Winnipeg wants/needs in Manson and if you can package him with some redundant pieces without moving your 3 most valuable players in 6th overall, Gibson, and Zegras. That can do a lot for this franchise. Not to mention the marketability of a potential Selanne 2.0, steal a goal scoring Finn from Winnipeg again. Is it the most realistic thing, maybe not, but BM maximizing returns on someone like Manson is going to be a must unless Steel, Comtois, Jones, Lundestrom etc all take massive strides forward.
  15. I think if you can get Laine without Zegras/6th overall pick you should definitely think about it.
  16. I think Murray is really good at drafting NHLers, but he’s not good at getting stars, granted he hasn’t had very many opportunities, but he’s great at getting 2-4th line players.
  17. Also to add names I’ve seen floating around trade rumors I wouldn’t mind taking a swipe at. Vince Dunn: slightly less interested because of the glut of LHD we have, but he’s young and better than most of what we have. Still would rather that slot go to Djoos and Mahura. Max Domi: he’s historically loved playing Anaheim, so maybe that translates to playing with. Still young, 70 pt potential, never really hit his stride and hasn’t gotten along with Claude Julien.
  18. I agree it probably won’t happen, but the idea excites me. I just think that this rebuild is gonna take a really good trade to finish. This team needs a jolt in the arm and it’s not everyday a 22 year old 35+ goal scorer becomes available.
  19. You can have a good draft and trade for a 22 year old 40 goal scorer.
  20. I think it would take a deal of Manson + Steel + 27th pick for just Laine imo. I think we might value Manson more than others, although he seems to be a GMs dream player.
  21. I guess his worse season would be 30 goals 20 assists in 82 games, which is still better than everyone on this team this last year. I just think if you can get a 22 year old who’s scored 44 goals in a season when you’re starved for goals with a package of a defensemen who’s probably going to get traded regardless and some mid level prospects and possibly without your 6th overall pick you should probably do it.
  22. I’ll take a guy who’s 22 and his worse season was 28 goals and 63 points in 68 games. Our power play is so bad and a guy like Laine could really change things. I think realistically a base of Manson + Steel + a pick could get it done. I’ll do that every day and twice on Sunday. I get that he has massive down falls, but man getting a guy who can put up 30 goals in his sleep would be so refreshing.
