He's still a good coach. If we were getting a veteran and not Cronin I'd like it to be him. Whatever happened in Chicago stayed there.

Agreed on the fact he´s a good coach but disagreed on the other. He´s just as guilty as the rest of that terrible organization. I don´t want our team to be associated with either one of them.

Why did you list the least desirable names you could possibly come up with when guys like Claude Julien, Alain Vigneault, Bruce Boudreau, Dave Tippett, and even Joel Quenneville are all out there unemployed? There are a lot of veteran coaches out there on par with Lindy Ruff who would jump at the chance to steer a young team emerging from a rebuild. It’s a bit of a straw man to just list the worst guys you can think of.

The only list Quenneville should be listed on is guys who should be fired into the sun.

I just can't believe in Toronto and Winnipeg, they've been PO disasters for so long now...if Helleyebuck goes on a rampage like Giguere and TOR finds a way to actually play cohesive defense...then maybe. Boston and Vegas are just too strong.

I completely didn't expect Vancouver, they are taking me by surprise and McDavid is just due sooner or later...

I don´t see Vegas repeating. Outside chance for Florida and Carolina.

what would those pieces be? Ducks need offense in the worst way and trading one your most talented offensive line players would be a huge step backwards at this point. You’re not getting another comparable player in age or production imo.

Maybe that elusive (future) #1 D man. Although I hope we already have him in our ranks.

Or suppose there's a top 6 winger out there whose a bit older (max 27) and wants out for some reason. Chances are slim but it happens (Gauthier recently, Pronger back in the day).

I´m not in favor of trading Zegras but should the opportunity present itself where a very good player becomes available I´m not opposed to the idea of including him in a trade.

Do we have a faceoff coach? Do they work on this? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a coach dedicated to this. Maybe they can bring in specialists to work with them after practice. Maybe a vet like Getz, Kes, Marchant (is he still around?).

Just seems like a simple thing to work into the training. Maybe even something Leo and/or Z hire someone to help with on the side.

Wasn´t Marchant let go a couple of years ago?

For all the hate I took on here last week, Frank Seravelli has confirmed that Trevor Zegras ia available.

I´m not too concerned about this. Even if it´s true Zegras should be available IMO for the right pieces.

I would presume that his list would include non-playoff teams. Besides that, it's just for a few months. So being cold for a few weeks isn't worth trying to win a Cup?

Very much this. And should the jets crap the bed he could be back in Caifornia late april/early may.

If he does leave, I hope the team that trades for him goes far (unless it´s nashville or toronto which seems unlikely).

My idea was a 1st + 2nd + Strome, with the 1st being a pick we acquired in a TDL trade that was likely in the 26-32 range. I think that about where his market value was before this latest news. Obviously a Laine trade would be on hold now though, and his value will be reassessed when he completes the program.

I don´t see this as a bad thing. Obviously you wait so see how he progresses but maybe he comes out stronger. Good on him that he has the courage to seek help. That shows maturity. Something he has been lacking in the past.

I hope he gets the help he needs.

I’m not trading for the lolz.

You´d be trading for the potential (you know is there). It´s a big guess but should he find his game we´re in for lots of fun.

As others have mentioned, I wouldn´t sell the farm but we can definitely miss some picks (given columbus bites on that).

With Zegras, Carlsson, Terry, McT, LaCombe, Zellweger, Luneau, Mintyukov, Dostal & Gauthier our future core should be in place by now.  Occassionally you have to swing big. I´d rather added Debrincat but that ship has sailed.

So maybe now is the time to take another swing. If it´s a miss we might miss out on another high pick ( which may or may not amount to something) and it´ll cost us a few millions. Not that terrible to lose that IMO. That´s the low estimate. High estimate is we add a 30-40 goal scorer.

Lol could you imagine PLD and Laine close rivals? And then Laine comes here and we have the same issues. Idk if that will happen but Laine has been injured a lot it seems. I wouldn't want that.

But what if he pans out? That would be hilarious.

I´ve been looking into his games played and while he has missed a whole bunch of games it´s not as bad as I initially thought.

He missed 9 games in his 1st season. Don´t know whether that was injury related. Might have been sent down. Then he played 2 full seasons. Then season after he missed 14 games.

He played 46 games in 2020-21 but wasn´t that a 56 game season? Then it really goes downhill. 56 games, 55 games and this season 18 so far which is pretty terrible. Currently he´s setting out with a broken clavicle which is a pretty freak injury no?

  11. I know there are a few on these boards who look at the kings as the big example of how to rebuild properly but could it be Blake has overplayed his hand by speeding up the process? They´re still holding on on a wildcard spot pretty comfortably and once you´re in anything can happen but their record since christmas is pretty abysmal. Doughty´s remarks are also pretty telling.

Very curious how it´s gonna turn out in LA. While Kopitar and Doughty have proven to be very durable it´s going to get worse someday. That day is not that far away.

That PLD trade also looks pretty horrible.

  12. According to Dreger Jarmo is taking calls on Laine & Provorov. Don´t know if we have much use for Provorov since he´s a lefty and I don´t know how well he plays on his off-side but despite all the alarmbells going of when I see the name Laine I can´t help but think he might fit here. His value must also be pretty low. Don´t know what Jarmo is looking for but I´d offer our 1st.

    Cons:

    - You have to keep him healthy which is a problem for this team because we get a lot of injuries.

    - There are questions about his work ethic and commitment. He basically screams ´I´m not a PV kinda guy´.

    Pro´s:

    - He can score. That´s it. We don´t have that and he ca´ do it if he´s healthy.

    - He´s 25 which is the perfect age for this core.

It might be an idiotic move but I´d go for it. We have the cap space. Worth a shot. If he can´t stay healthy you LTIR him and he´s gone in 2 years. But if he hits he might score 40.

  13. I´ve pretty much had it with hoping for another high pick. Unless we get #1 overall I´m all for trading that pick. We have all the young talent we need. Now we need a player who can step in immediately and make a difference.

Don´t know whether we have the assets to land that player and who that player might be but a high 1st rounder is not a bad starting point.

  14. Very small silver lining: with Henrique´s 2 goals tonight he´s on pace for 25G and 50 points. Doesn´t hurt his value at all. The West is going to have to gear up because the oilers were already playing fine hockey and just added Perry.

Let´s go injuries (not career ending) for 2nd and 3rd line centers.

    Coming home to the Pacific??

Well they took in Evander Kane so why not Perry? Bad joke because we don´t know what was going on. My honest opinion, I think chicago did him dirty.

I hope Perry finds a team. I think he might fit in edmonton. You can always use some snarl and experience. If he signs there I´m an Oilers fan the rest of the season.

At this point, a first for Rico seems out of the question even with retention. He’d have to pick up his production a bit towards the deadline to have a chance. I think a 2nd and maybe an additional 3rd or 4th would be his price, unless the Ducks add a pick or take a bigger salary dump in return.

i cheer for other teams desperation though! We’ve seen crazy stuff before.

Yeah not saying it will happen or that PV should hold onto a 1st as asking price but teams overpay. A player is worth what a team is willing to pay for him.

I agree that I don´t think Henrique is worth a 1st but I don´t know what centers will become available. Henrique is still on track for some 40 points on a crap team. He´s a perfect 3rd line center who can switch to the wing and fill in on the 2nd line in case of emergency. He can also play on the PK and although it´s been a long time ago he has playoff experience. Even all the way to the finals.

I don´t know how serious the jets are about contending for example but they could definitely use Henrique. The Bruins too but they´d be wise to hold onto their 1st rounders since their prospect line is pretty thin.

Yes I can see a 2nd for a third line giy and maybe an extra 3rd or 4th, but neither of those would qualify as the "hockey trade" Moose was referring to happening at the deadline. Hockey move to me is moving a player and pick like Henrique for a decent roster player, not just for late 2nd round picks. This is what I mean by the hockey trades are in the offseason unless somehow Zegras and Gibson get moved.

We´ll never get a good player in return but depending on the market and some retention I don´t think a 1st is out of the question. Rico is a very useful player. It only takes one team that´s desperate enough.

  18. Among goalies with at least 15 GP Gibson ranks 15th in SV% and 16th (tied with Shesterkin at 15) in GAA. Some of the guys ahead of him: Demko, Swayman, Hellebuyck & Talbot who play for some of the best teams at the moment.

Those teams are where they are in part because they get great goaltending. Then again those goalies benefit from backing up great teams. If you put Gibson behind the kings or Bruins he´s probably top 10.

Currently I don´t think it´s wrong to assume that Gibson is a top 15 goalie in the league.
