  1. FS93 would love to give them Gibson!
  2. Decent article. However, none of the suggested goalie replacements would be an "upgrade" for what we already have. The Ducks are the worst team in the NHL right now, allowing the most shots against by a large margin. Perhaps Gibson is the type of goalie that does his best with 25-30 shots against, and rapidly falls off after that, or perhaps he's just as demoralized as all of us. The Ducks should first try to build a better defense, a better offense, a better penalty kill, a better power play, better coaching, etc... I think the Ducks should make Gibson/Dostal a 1A/1B tandem and evenly split the goaltending duties. It would give Gibson more rest after facing 40-50 shots, and would allow a more meaningful stats comparison between the two goalies to see which goalie we might keep and which one we might trade. (Mind you, the Ducks always make the wrong choice with this anyway...) But if not, go ahead and trade Gibson to a contender like we do with every other player, so he can win a Stanley Cup or a Vezina Trophy with a better team, like we do with every other player...
  3. Oh, hey! The Ducks will be SURE to sign him! 🤩
  4. Well, one of these teams is going to win the Cup for the first time! Both teams have been to the Finals once and have lost. Ought to be a hard fought series this year!
  5. I was thinking the same thing. The only downside is that he's accustomed to playing for GOOD teams. He might balk at an offer to play in Anaheim.
  6. Oh, I don't know. Chris Pronger was taken #2 overall. (More cherry-picking, I know...)
  7. I'll be really disappointed if we go backwards and get worse in the standings...
  8. Can't believe how close all these games are so far. The final four teams have, so far, played eight games total - seven of them one-goal games and five of them overtime.
  9. Oh, I don't know. Wouldn't you rather have Brendan Guhle and Brayden Tracy?
  10. Florida and Vegas living dangerously! May 22 - Florida only 7 shots on goal during final two periods. May 23 - Vegas only 6 shots on goal during the final two periods. (Actually, it's a lot like your average Ducks regular season game...)
  11. ...and the diaper man, and the feeding man, and the vomit target man, and the colic man, and the floor cleaning man, and the... 😬
  12. Bet the Canadian teams are gnashing their teeth over this... https://www.cbs17.com/sports/nhl-stanley-cupgeography-which-final-four-playoff-team-is-the-furthest-north/
  13. I have always scratched my head over why Salt Lake City has never been a front-runner for NHL expansion. Geographically it's great, as far as being close to Vegas, Colorado and the California teams, with a slightly longer stone's throw away from Dallas, Calgary and Vancouver. They already have a professional team in the Utah Jazz, and are home to the Utah Grizzlies ECHL team. AND, it snows there too - woo hoo! (Wait, is that a plus or a minus?) Oh goody! I get to play "devil's advocate" here with some of my patented "Belarus' Cherry-Picked Stats!" 😈 Atlanta Metropolitan Area = 6.1 million population = TWO failed NHL teams. (Flames and Thrashers) 💀 Green Bay Metropolitan Area = 306 thousand population = 1096 year waiting list for Packers tickets... 🥱
  14. In the local newspaper yesterday there was an article titled, "Who should the rebuilding Ducks interview for coach?" The names suggested were: Jay Leach - Kraken assistant coach. Kirk Muller - Flames associate coach. Brad Shaw - Flyers associate coach. Mike Vellucci - Penguins assistant coach. Trent Yawney - Kings assistant coach. The article had long paragraphs describing each choice and their connection to either Verbeek or the Ducks. Here's the same article from the OC Register. https://www.ocregister.com/2023/05/15/who-should-the-rebuilding-ducks-interview-for-their-coaching-vacancy/
  15. "I see your predictions are as BAD as mine!" (With apologies to Mel Brooks...)
  16. Thank you BTD, for being the first person on this board to use the correct "re-sign" instead of the incorrect "resign." (It's a rare pet-peeve of mine...) 🤬
  17. The Ducks organization DOES seem to supply the NHL with quality defenseman and goaltenders...
  18. I thought more scoring depth would be better, but I seem to be wrong here. Notice how out of the top 11 teams, 9 of them made the playoffs - while out of the bottom 11 teams only 2 made the playoffs. Is it because the lower teams don't have two "superstars" on the same line while the good teams do? Which begs the question, what's up with Seattle and Vegas making the playoffs while at the bottom of the list? What happened there? Any opinions? Theories? (The stats, the stats! Not my mental health!) 🤪
  19. Percentages of team goals scored by the top two goal scorers of each team. "P" indicates a '23 playoff team. EDM 35.7% (P) COL 35.4% (P) WPG 32.6% (P) TBY 30.4% (P) MIN 29.7% (P) DAL 29.5% (P) BOS 29.2% (P) VAN 28.9% TOR 28.8% (P) OTT 28.6% FLA 28.5% (P) BUF 28.3% NYR 27.5% (P) ARI 27.1% NYI 26.4% (P) PIT 26.4% PHI 26.4% NJD 26% (P) WSH 25.7% LAK 25.2% (P) CAR 24.4% (P) STL 24.2% DET 23.6% MTR 22.9% CBJ 22.5% CGY 22.5% ANA 22.3% SJS 22.3% SEA 22.1% (P) VGK 20.6% (P) CHI 19.8% NSH 18.4%
  20. A few days ago, I heard an announcer say Seattle had something like 17 different players score in the playoffs at that time. Got me thinking. Is it better to have just a couple superstars on a team, or is is better to have scoring depth from lots of players? Soooo... With too much time on my hands, I made the following list from the '22-'23 regular season. For each team, I determined what percentage of total team goals were scored by the top two goal scorers. I figured a high percentage would indicate "superstars" and a low percentage would indicate "scoring depth." I got some puzzling results! Is this stat significant? Useful? A waste of time? The most awesome thing you've ever seen? Confusing? See below...
  21. Uhh, yes. Freddie's had the luxury of being on a playoff team every year since 2016. Gibson, not so much...
  22. Just think, it's been thirty years since Alexandre Daigle was drafted first overall and said, "I'm glad I got drafted first, because no one remembers number two." #1 - Alexandre Daigle - Unremarkable NHL career. #2 - Chris Pronger - 2015 NHL Hall of Famer
  23. Assuming we'll pick Fantilli, I see him as kind of like another Getzlaf, hopefully even better.
  24. You'd be an improvement, Moose!
