  1. Ducks need to go 0-2 while Hawks and Jackets go 1-2 next week. It's a plausible scenario. I've eyed 59 points as the line in the sand for a couple weeks now which may come to fruition for the point total you don't want to hit.

Onus  once this season concludes will be on Ducks Young Core....I want them to know that in Order to succeed....They MUST Persevere to overcome Adversity and against our Rivals. I was expecting the Ducks to be in top 5 or 7 in NHL West.

Moose, I always enjoy your optimism, but dang....even that was too optimistic for you!!

How is it too late?  2 points separate #1 from #4, with 8 games remaining.  And Ducks "lose" tiebreaker at the moment with fewest regulation wins.

First of all, it's a 3 point difference. Also I just can't see Columbus winning more than 3 games in their final 8. they'd essentially have to be a .500 team otherwise which is just hard to imagine. Once the Ducks get past 59 points, they've likely missed their chance of last place. They would need to go 1-6-1 which is still possible, but then you do need to hope for the jackets and hawks to go 3-5 at least. I mean it's not totally  impossible so let's cross our fingers.

    Anaheim - 56pts, 13 regulation wins, 20 regulation plus overtime wins, 8 games remaining (@SEA, @EDM, @CGY, EDM, @AZ, COL, VAN, LAK)

    Chicago - 54pts, 16 RWs, 22 ROWs, 9 games remaining (DAL, STL, NJD, @CGY, @VAN, @SEA, MIN, @PIT, PHI)

    Columbus - 53pts, 15 RWs, 22 ROWs, 10 games remaining (@NYR, @BOS, FLA, OTT, @TOR, @NJD, NYR, @PHI, PIT, BUF)

    San Jose - 53pts, 14 RWs, 18 ROWs, 9 games remaining (WPG, VGK, @AZ, COL, COL, EDM, @WPG, @CGY, @EDM)

Columbus' schedule is brutal down the stretch. It's possible the Jackets don't even pick up 3 more points the rest of the way. The Ducks certainly doing their part to stay in the race though. I think we were all a bit worried about this last big homestand, but they did their job with a 1-6-1 record (sadly, with their only win against Columbus).

If I had a guess 58 points would be the line in the sand. If you go beyond that, you're likely not finishing dead last.

interested in any news anyone can find - i was at the game, but i didn't listen to the radio broadcast, and i haven't watched the tv replay.  wondering if the broadcast teams had any news.

It happened on a play where he was attacking the net. He toe picked the ice and you can see his ankle buckle a bit. My guess is an ankle sprain.

I have no knock about Mintyukov, I am just stating the fact the PV drafted him. Maybe he'll be good, maybe not, time will tell. He may turn out to be a solid D like Konstantinov was, or he may turn out to be a warm body like Vitaly Vishnevsky (are you old enough to remember him?). As far as GM Blake, I am specifically impressed on what he has done the last 2 seasons, a quick turn-around from non-playoffs team to a legit. contender, after Drew Doughty clearly stated that he's not interested to play for forever-rebuilding team.

Got it, ok. And yes old enough to remember Vishnevski (believe me i still remember the days when Hrkac centered Kariya in the first line :) when i was still in middle school!!). And yes I agree Blake's turnaround is impressive and he's done an exceptional job putting together a cohesive lineup of the right players that don't have "superstars". His choices of depth players and coaching staff is the key to the Kings turnaround. Keep in mind that Blake was hired as GM early 2017. I understand your frustration with the current state of the Ducks since we've had to deal with Bob's mismanagement leading up to the moment Verbeek was hired, but if we follow the same trajectory (2017 hirign of Blake, 2022 playoff appearance, 2023 high caliber team that can compete in the Western Conf), you would have to give Verbeek some leeway in terms of timing. That means you should give Verbeek maybe one more year of subpar hockey next year before it comes to fruition. Over the course of the first 2 years as GM he dismantled his core roster to get draft picks (Toffoli, Pearson, Kovalchuk (awful signing), Muzzin, etc). I feel like we should wait for this summer to make a strong judgement on Verbeek as he's doing now what Blake did between 2017-2019.

True, true.....but so far, our new manager hasn't done anything significant to improve this team. Here is a list of who he brought to this team: McGinn, Leason, White, Strome, Vatrano, Harrington, Benoit, a buck of 2nd round picks and drafting Mintukov. Are you impressed?

I hear some statements from Gorbachav and others to wait for 3 more years before we start to judge his work. Do you want to wait for another 3 years?

What's the knock on Mintyukov? I'm interested in your take on him. I may not be too familiar with his game as I'm basing his talent by stats only at this point. He seems like he's doing great in the OHL this season and has great size to be an NHL player.

Best of Luck John Klingberg and Dmitry Kulikov....Welcome to the Ducks Brock McGinn and Nika Nesterenko...Welcome back Andrej Sustr. NGL but I am satisfied with the Ducks Trade Returns. Look at the Ducks Draft Picks for this year NHL Draft total of 9.

None of the trade deadline deals netted 2023 picks.

Where's Moose in all of this? Did the Ducks acquire the players that he was expecting them to in order to turn their fortunes around?

I'll answer for him, they couldn't even get the draft picks that some were expecting them to.

somehow somewhere in Halifax, he is ready to bring a postive spin on all this.

Brock McGinn is a salary dump.  He was buried in the AHL.  This wasn't a good deal for Verbeek.

I think it's situational too. If the Ducks had forwards making salaries of Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Zucker, then we would also see many of our bottom 6 in the AHL. i do think it's time for guys like Comtois to move on. It's not a great trade but also not bad if McGinn sees a new opportunity in Anaheim. He was a decent hard checking bottom 6 in carolina.

  11. 2 minutes ago, Gorbachav55 said:

Brock McGinn is, somehow, just as bad as Derek Grant.  So if "slide in nicely" means "replace the awfulness of", then yes, he can do that.

you would think that he's a better player than Comtois though. it's not a bad trade considering McGinn has two more years left in his contract. im surprised kulikov was able to pull a 3rd + a non-UFA roster player

    good angle by dangle

The Coyotes cap position is completely against what Bettman has warned before deadline. The roster who's actually on the ice covers $43M in cap space, while all dead cap/LTIR (players who will never set foot in the state of Arizona)/cap retention make up the remaining $30M or so. Mind you the cap floor is like $58M. What a way to circumvent the cap on a full tank mission.

Quick was terrible the last 2 years. 35 y/o struggling goaltender on expiring contract. Gavrikov is a strong offensive minded defenseman, 6.3" 220 lbs beast who'll help them on penalty kill and PP. Korpisalo posted a respectable .913% save percentage despite playing on bad team. Big win for GM Blake, I really like what he is doing for his franchise.

As far as our GM, I don't expect much from him to improve Ducks roster. He'll trade some veterans for late round picks + meah prospects + bottom 6 warm bodies he'll waive after the season.  In the offseason, my only hope is he'll draft someone who can help this franchise and won't sign another Strome-like player to huge contract.

P.S. Why am I so pessimistic? Is it because of rainy day or because I am jealous on Hollywood team?

Agreed with the big win for the Kings on the move. Just always surprised to see then a franchise legend gets traded out of nowhere. I certainly didn't expect this. It was obvious the Kings needed to add a goalie for a deep playoff push, but certainly would have assumed Quick would have still be in the fold.

    1. Klingberg - 2nd rd pick or 3rd a b prospect. If Ducks package a 2nd, might get a late 1st.

    2. Kulikov - 3rd rd pick at best, likely 4th

    3. Grant - 5th or 6th rd pick, no value but depth player

    4. Comtois - will not get traded, if he does 3rd rd pick

    5. Henrique - will not get traded. Will be an acquisition at next year's deadline

The proposed scenario makes sense any year and I would have agreed with you not even an hour ago, until you see what Tampa gave up for Jeannot. Klingberg for a 1st rd pick is not out of the question next week. Especially if the Oilers can't make Karlsson happen.

I'll take the wait and see approach 😜

Unless something unexpected happens, Meier will be a Devil and Kane will be a Ranger when it's all said and done.

Hope that Carolina comes flying from the top rope to change that.

The eastern playoffs will be fun to watch!! The first round matchups of leafs v lightning and devils v rangers will be a treat for neutrals.

Since This years NHL TDL is few days away This is what I believe Ducks should want in trading some of their players...Returns will be important to our team Here is WHAT I hope for...

1.Draft Picks and NHL Ready/High End Prospects.

    2. Players ready to Contribute and on Hockey Contract...NOT Expiring Contracts.

    DuckPride 4ever

    MooseDuck

Expect Draft picks, salary retention, bottom 6 roster players, and mid-tiered prospects. Anything more than that is unlikely. Ducks are not in the position to attain quality players who can contribute, and I doubt that's Verbeeks direction. He's rebuilding. I would be in the position to want to finish bottom 2. Once you draft Bedard or Fantili, sign Z/Drysdale/Terry, then you will see more impactful moves being made. But between now and then, don't expect much.

Right now our most attractive trade option is named "cap space". Hopefully Verbeek can get a good return for it.

The rumor is Kane to the Rangers pretty much done per sources, but looking to finalize cap issue with a third team. I can bet you the Ducks are involved to broker this deal. This is a massive trade for the Rangers, and I think they'll be desperate enough to give up more that just a 5th rounder for a third team to help get this done.

Kane and Zegras/TT and / or McT would be a points making machine.😁

Unfortunately players like Kane will never waive his clause to be traded to Anaheim.

And to your question on Toews, his contract ends in 2 months. To me it seems no different than a regular LTIR issue. He's not going to decide to retire with 2 months left in the season if he think he can come back.
