    So how about this:

Anaheim has $33,005,833 in cap space

    Marchessault $7M X 3yrs

    Duchene        $7M X 3yrs

    Tanev             $5.5 X 2yrs

    Roy                 $5.5 X 4yrs

    That leaves $8,005,833 in space.

    IMO.

You’d need more term to get Roy, who’s the only player I’d take on that list.

Duchene is a LHC which we don’t need especially at that price.

Tanev is 34. His aav would be a million more than his current contract which is too much. I think he’s looking for a three year deal at a lower aav but with a contender. I’m not trusting him to age gracefully.

marchessault is interesting because I think that contract is what he’s probably seeking, but with the Ducks, they’d probably have to offer an extra year of term.

I think it’s moot because signing all of these guys is almost certainly  not in the Samueli budget and if we did sign all of these guys then it would create more problems signing our own RFAs. Strome, Killorn, Marchessault, Roy, Duchene, tanev, Gibson would account for over 50% of the Ducks cap space. Id cry lol.

If Verbeek wants to get his two main areas of need via UFA, I think he’s shedding additional money, ie Fowler.

  2. Watching Kings Twitter and insiders discussing buying out DuBois contract this summer at 1/3 remaining value before he turns 26 and the cost goes to 2/3 is what I like to see

What else does the top 6 need according to Verbeek? If he adds that and solidifies the bottom 6, what else can he do? Also adding a top 4 RD? These aren't cheap moves. Also he said he didn't want to be a seller anymore.

Not wanting to be a seller and not being a seller are different. If you’re really in an all-in position then you’re just doing it and not waiting to see how the team does before making moves. I’m sure verbeek doesn’t want be a seller at the deadline but I’m sure he’s preparing to be one and reasonably so.

Adding those pieces aren’t all-in moves and are more trying to give the young guys more support as they develop in the NHL. Ducks have shed a lot of established NHLers over the past couple of seasons and they are addressing those needs. This core group is extremely young and inexperienced still. McTavish, minty, Gauthier, zellweger, Leo, luneau are all still on their ELCs with only McTavish has less than two years remaining.

That should be this summer since Verbeek said he wanted to add a top 6 RS RW and a top 4 RD.

I don’t think that’s the case, depends how you define “all-in” though. I usually refer to it when you’re in your contending window and you start mortgaging future picks, prospects and maximize spending to win a cup. We aren’t close to that and have no key players except Terry locked up long term. Spending to get a RD and RHW may not really change the current internal budget after the Ducks shed over 13 mil in cap space with Silf, Henrique and drysdale now off the books, with maybe more to come. I’d be surprised if there is a significant increase in actual salary costs next year than this year.

    Got it.

Yeah… I’m with Jasoaks. The drop in pick position is worth it if Sammy gets a ring. :)

I’m selfish, matters more having a draft pick five spots higher!

This is what i don’t get. Why will Oils playing V or N screw us, are we assuming Oils will walk over both?

Yeah I think Edmonton beats both of them handily. Wish they were playing Colorado or the Vegas/Dallas winner

    I dont understand.

We can't have Edmonton make the conference finals or else we will end up with a pick between 29-32. Draft slots don't reconfigure until after the 2nd round

I know we hate the Kings, but aren't we supposed to be rooting against the Oilers, since our pick from them is dependent upon where they finish?

If Edmonton loses next round then we get the best of both worlds but I think they play the winner of Vancouver/Nashville so that will screw us.

  9. LA might have a spicy offseason after three straight first round losses to Edmonton. Does Blake get canned? PLD with 7 more years on his contract.

    I love it

Taking him off the market increases the prices of the others. Basic supply and demand. Marchessault might have increased his value by $1M just by Stamkos being off the market.

I don’t think there will be a shortage of suitors for Marchessault or Reinhart whether Stamkos is on the market or not.
I think they know what their ballpark values are and it will be more about who they sign it with. Now that I think about it, I don’t think whether Stamkos signs here makes a difference because those other guys likely aren’t waiting around for him to sign to use as a bargaining chip. The longer the wait in free agency, the more you risk of options drying up and not getting the best deal.

If Stamkos does stay in Tampa, that just raises the price tag for Marchessault, Reinhart and Toffoli.

You’d think him getting more money elsewhere would do that. I think they’d love for him to sign in Anaheim for that reason.

tampa is in a tough spot with 8 UFAs and only 12 mil in cap space next year. Seabrook’s LTIR comes off the books so they need to get creative if they want to try to make another run next year.

For whatever it’s worth, Pronman of the Athletic has Yakemchuk at #3 right now. Not saying he’s my guy, but I’d be confident in any D the Ducks picked if that’s where they end up going considering the track record.

I don’t know that the Ducks would have to move up to draft Sennecke. His rankings are all over the place including a bunch of 2nd round grades. Right now, if the Ducks are going to trade up in the middle of the 1st round I’m taking Connelly. He’s really impressing me and he’s got everything Verbeek wants in a player. Doubt it happens because those kinds of trades are rare to begin with.

Yakemchuk has the size that Verbeek likes, he’s got offensive ability, especially in transition and is physical but his skating and lack of situational awareness scares me. I think he’d take him over parekh and is definitely in the conversation if Leshunov is off the board 😕. In that case, I’d try hard to trade back

    Is Eiserman a RH?

What I want to see, if we don’t win the lotto, Levshonov solves our RH D issue and could potentially step into the lineup right away. Then package whatever we need to, to move up to get Helenius, which also solves the RH issue. Where is Helenius currently ranked? Top 10 I think. Could we put a package together to make that happen? Edm 1st our 2nd one of the other second and a Warren or Sidorov to get in the top ten. It may be a hefty price, but if Beeker is serious about making a jump sooner than later he needs to start making some gutsy moves. It may be time to start mortgaging parts of the future to get into the ‘now’ mode.

Eiserman is left handed and Helenius is ranked in the 9-14 range on average.

i don’t think it’s a guarantee that Lushunov steps in right away either and the Ducks won’t rush that. Many highly picked defensemen don’t (ie Hughes, Makar, Heiskanen). He might go back to MSU or get extensive time with the Gulls first.

    1st choice is Levshunov

    2nd choice is Silayev

    He's going defense

I agree and the only thing I’d bet money on is that Leshunov is our pick if he’s on the board. After that, I’m not confident in predicting. Taking Silayev either puts an LHD on their off side or there’s a trade in the near future. Silayev definitely fits the Verbeek profile. Rather take him than Yakemchuk. If he got Leshunov then pulled off a trade up to get Sennecke then I’ll be floored with the draft.

    US vs Finland U18’s:

As the game went on this basically came down to Eiserman vs. Helenius for me. Eiserman looked better in this game than he did against Latvia, but he still went through stretches of play where he wasn’t doing much. I’m starting to wonder about his hockey sense. I’ve read about how he gets tunnel vision and thinks shot all the time, but in this game there were times when he passed the puck when he should of shot and vice versa.

Enter Helenius. He’s described as having elite hockey sense, and that definitely showed itself. He had a slow start and end to the game, but looked solid in the 2nd period. He reminded me at times of a less dynamic and less consistent Leo Carlsson. Even during the small instances in the game it’s plays/positions that you’ve seen in the NHL. He looks to have an NHL brain. He needs to work on his shot, but his playmaking stood out. He setup his teammate for a wide open one-timer goal, and it was the kind of goal you see on the PP except this was 5 on 5. The biggest question I have with him is whether the Ducks think he can impact the game on the wing, because he’s not playing center here especially at his 5’10” size. I also expected him to be more dominant/consistent considering he’s playing in the Finnish pro league against men.

Other than that, Connelly had another good game. He’s the perfect Verbeek player; he’s fast with tons of skill, and he competes hard. He’s got a little edge to his game at times. Stiga also had a good game. He’s got a good shot and puts himself in great places to score.

    Thanks for the breakdown!

I don’t think there’s any chance Eiserman is our pick. Helenius is much more of a Verbeek guy on top of being right handed. I don’t think he’d be a center either. Hes my dark horse forward but it’s still a bit of a reach.

Connolly seems like his stock is rising and we’ll miss out on him unless we traded up but I think he’s going to high for us to get with a 2nd first.

He’s the belle of the ball this season. Hes coming off of a 57 goal 94 point season. I’d be surprised if he takes less than 10-11 million.

He’d take less aav to stay with Florida on an 8-year deal imo. I think they could get him for 9-9.5

Florida has a lot of decisions to make this summer. Only 20.5 mil in cap space with 10 UFAs (including Reinhart and Montour) with Lundell as an RFA.

I could see him going to DET.

Also, TOR.  In a deal for Marner.

I don’t think he wants any part of the pending gong show that is about to hit Toronto. Detroit makes far more sense, they have the cap space it bring him in

This article sums up the Stamkos situation. Saying that a team like Chicago or Anaheim will offer him the big pay day, but he isn't the type of player that will take it without there being any hope of playoff success. There is a very small chance he signs here, but if it is a 3 year contract as we are all talking as we need money for the young guys in 3 years, the Ducks won't be making the playoffs at all during that time, so that drops the odds for Stamkos even lower.

the money for all of the young guys except for luneau and this years pick has to be done within two years: Zegras, Leo, McTavish, minty, zellweger, Gauthier, Dostal. So, Stamkos won’t come off the books before it happens on a three year deal but I don’t see every one of those guys getting 7/8 year deals. Likely, a couple bridge contracts will be done to buy time for when Killorn, Gibson and Strome are all off the books.

Signing Stamkos shouldn’t be a financial issue it’s just a matter of whether it’s a smart use of money and whether ownership would even spend it. I don’t think they will pay the price tag to get him but also that Stamkos is going to have much better options. I don’t think he’s coming here but that he will test free agency
