    Is Eiserman a RH?

What I want to see, if we don’t win the lotto, Levshonov solves our RH D issue and could potentially step into the lineup right away. Then package whatever we need to, to move up to get Helenius, which also solves the RH issue. Where is Helenius currently ranked? Top 10 I think. Could we put a package together to make that happen? Edm 1st our 2nd one of the other second and a Warren or Sidorov to get in the top ten. It may be a hefty price, but if Beeker is serious about making a jump sooner than later he needs to start making some gutsy moves. It may be time to start mortgaging parts of the future to get into the ‘now’ mode.

Eiserman is left handed and Helenius is ranked in the 9-14 range on average.

i don’t think it’s a guarantee that Lushunov steps in right away either and the Ducks won’t rush that. Many highly picked defensemen don’t (ie Hughes, Makar, Heiskanen). He might go back to MSU or get extensive time with the Gulls first.

    1st choice is Levshunov

    2nd choice is Silayev

    He's going defense

I agree and the only thing I’d bet money on is that Leshunov is our pick if he’s on the board. After that, I’m not confident in predicting. Taking Silayev either puts an LHD on their off side or there’s a trade in the near future. Silayev definitely fits the Verbeek profile. Rather take him than Yakemchuk. If he got Leshunov then pulled off a trade up to get Sennecke then I’ll be floored with the draft.

    US vs Finland U18’s:

As the game went on this basically came down to Eiserman vs. Helenius for me. Eiserman looked better in this game than he did against Latvia, but he still went through stretches of play where he wasn’t doing much. I’m starting to wonder about his hockey sense. I’ve read about how he gets tunnel vision and thinks shot all the time, but in this game there were times when he passed the puck when he should of shot and vice versa.

Enter Helenius. He’s described as having elite hockey sense, and that definitely showed itself. He had a slow start and end to the game, but looked solid in the 2nd period. He reminded me at times of a less dynamic and less consistent Leo Carlsson. Even during the small instances in the game it’s plays/positions that you’ve seen in the NHL. He looks to have an NHL brain. He needs to work on his shot, but his playmaking stood out. He setup his teammate for a wide open one-timer goal, and it was the kind of goal you see on the PP except this was 5 on 5. The biggest question I have with him is whether the Ducks think he can impact the game on the wing, because he’s not playing center here especially at his 5’10” size. I also expected him to be more dominant/consistent considering he’s playing in the Finnish pro league against men.

Other than that, Connelly had another good game. He’s the perfect Verbeek player; he’s fast with tons of skill, and he competes hard. He’s got a little edge to his game at times. Stiga also had a good game. He’s got a good shot and puts himself in great places to score.

    Thanks for the breakdown!

I don’t think there’s any chance Eiserman is our pick. Helenius is much more of a Verbeek guy on top of being right handed. I don’t think he’d be a center either. Hes my dark horse forward but it’s still a bit of a reach.

Connolly seems like his stock is rising and we’ll miss out on him unless we traded up but I think he’s going to high for us to get with a 2nd first.

He’s the belle of the ball this season. Hes coming off of a 57 goal 94 point season. I’d be surprised if he takes less than 10-11 million.

He’d take less aav to stay with Florida on an 8-year deal imo. I think they could get him for 9-9.5

Florida has a lot of decisions to make this summer. Only 20.5 mil in cap space with 10 UFAs (including Reinhart and Montour) with Lundell as an RFA.

I could see him going to DET.

Also, TOR.  In a deal for Marner.

I don’t think he wants any part of the pending gong show that is about to hit Toronto. Detroit makes far more sense, they have the cap space it bring him in

This article sums up the Stamkos situation. Saying that a team like Chicago or Anaheim will offer him the big pay day, but he isn't the type of player that will take it without there being any hope of playoff success. There is a very small chance he signs here, but if it is a 3 year contract as we are all talking as we need money for the young guys in 3 years, the Ducks won't be making the playoffs at all during that time, so that drops the odds for Stamkos even lower.

the money for all of the young guys except for luneau and this years pick has to be done within two years: Zegras, Leo, McTavish, minty, zellweger, Gauthier, Dostal. So, Stamkos won’t come off the books before it happens on a three year deal but I don’t see every one of those guys getting 7/8 year deals. Likely, a couple bridge contracts will be done to buy time for when Killorn, Gibson and Strome are all off the books.

Signing Stamkos shouldn’t be a financial issue it’s just a matter of whether it’s a smart use of money and whether ownership would even spend it. I don’t think they will pay the price tag to get him but also that Stamkos is going to have much better options. I don’t think he’s coming here but that he will test free agency

That will be the issue.  If ANA can significantly overpay any other suitor's price, then he could end up here.

4 years, $6.5 mil, for example.  Does that beat all other offers?  Does that make sense for ANA?  Those are the turning points.

Killorn got 4 years x 6.25 so I don’t think you’re getting Stamkos at 6.5. Probably a bit north of 7 aav assuming he is interested coming here.

It’s true that being an owner brings with it a reasonable amount of risk and most certainly money but using that money along with some sort of long term plan using top tier people with the same vision and work ethic to make it happen would be appropriate and would attract more attention and interest from players and coaches. Having a great coach would help attract more players and create a culture of success. The ducks don’t even have a single beat reporter!

Players and coaches care about their careers and the publicity they receive- my point is that the owners are not doing anything to foster this sort of environment.

Instead they have a stuttering, mumbling GM who has “his guys” and until the ducks came along and hired him had no previous experience as a NHL GM. An assistant is a far cry from the GM. The players and coaches around the league probably have noticed the contract negotiations and comments about Zegras, for example and I am not convinced that he will be with the team in the future. Cronin even (to my dismay) made comments about how popular he is on social media and how that wasn’t a good thing and he needs to be put in his place.
To answer your question about who could come is irrelevant at this stage because the damage is already happening and I don’t see any holy grail waiting for the fans.

Peter Chiarelli is a former GM and we wouldn't want him within the Anaheim city limits. Don't a lot of GMs start out as assistant or in the front office before they get considered for the job? Assistant GMs seem like the main stepping stone. Seems like the best way to gain insight for the job.

I couldn't care less about Verbeek's public speaking. He could be a mute as long as he ultimately builds a contending team.

If you think the damage is already happening and its deterring coaches from wanting to be here, I'd argue that happend before Verbeek got hired. As far as Zegras, sure there is a possibility that he is not here long-term but that has less to do with his contract negotiation and rather that he doesn't see a winning future in Anaheim.

Please spare us the pass for the ducks ownership.

They have been the head of the spear when it comes to not paying players and not bringing in NHL players and coaches. They are cheap and only serve their own needs and interests (ie huge construction projects in Anaheim)

What other team in the league would hire a coach with no NHL experience? Know why they did? Because he’s cheap and they escape paying a top salary for a top coach. There’s no other reason.

They are the poster children of rummage sale players/dumpster diving activities.

What big name coach did you want them to get that would also come here? Top coaches have more and better options. The capitals hired carbery before this season started. Were they being cheap? Cronin was an assistant with the islanders and Toronto.

The Sharks need a new coach now and they are in the rebuild boat as well. It’ll be interesting to see who they hire. Is someone like Berube going there? My guess is they aren’t landing a top coach though

What's the point of owning a professional sports team if you want to be cheap? Vegas went for the jugular right off the bat. I'm sure Utah and Seattle will as well this off season. If Verbeek wants to slow roll it like Yzerman then he might have a revolt. The Red Wings barely missed the playoffs. Yzerman didn't do anything at the TDL. He can only live off his name for so long. Verbeek doesn't have that luxury. Does Stamkos make the team better? Yes. Bring him in or someone else as long that player is a legit top 6 forward.

Pro sports is littered with cheap owners. Vegas was a contender since day one which is why they’ve ruthlessly spent since. I don’t blame the Samuelis for not allowing a spending binge through a rebuild as long as the bank is open whenever they become contenders again. Look at the free agents they’ve spent money on the last two seasons. They’ve got long term financial commitments coming up.

I guess I’m just confused, Stamkos makes us a better team, but you only want him at an unrealistic number.    And if we overpay him for 3 years it does nothing to hurt our future cap situation.

id also argue Gudas / Vats / Killorn have all made us a better team.   Strome I personally believe is a very serviceable 3rd liner who’s been forced to play above his ability.

he traded those players because they were UFA’s and he wanted to bottom out instead of middling and signing Lindholm to an 8 year deal into his late 30’s was not the play 2-1/2 years ago.

as far as the trades goes, I think you are in the minority that he is losing all of them.   He may have not gotten enough in your opinion, and that’s fair but like we’ve said before neither of us know what he asked for or what he was offered.    And then later on though you want him to lower his asking price on Gibson and even give up assets to move a very serviceable NHL goalie.   That honestly seems counterintuitive to building an improved roster.   Trade a starting goalie, lowering your asking price, move assets to do it, eat some of his contract, just seems like a negative trade in my mind.

and i just want to know what is a move that makes sense to you ?    You don’t have any UFA’s you’d like him to sign ?

The Ducks are still in no rush to trade Gibson and they certainly aren’t buying him out this summer. Verbeek isn’t adding assets for a team to take him in offseason when Saros and Markstrom are going to be moved. Best time to move Gibson would be next summer when he’s got two years left of his deal and assuming Dostal plays well this season for them to hand him the starting job.

There is no reasonable price for Stamkos to come to the Ducks. If they signed him, I think the bigger issue would be the internal budget constraint rather than the salary cap.

    It’s called accountability

    Normal pro sports practice

    Win or else

Then there’s the abnormal- the ducks.

GM states publicly that wins and losses don’t matter…

Hakstol led them to a playoffs in their second year of existence which included a first round win against Colorado. Firing a coach after a subsequent down year in that context seems unusual but Emily Kaplan reported that some players mutinied against him with guys saying they wouldn’t play in Seattle long term if he remained coach. That doesn’t sound like he got fired because of wins and losses.

Trevor Connelly pulled off the Michigan for the US against Latvia today. He had two goals and two assist overall in the game, and was the best player on the ice. That’s back to back good games from him. If this is what he brings pretty consistently there’s no way he’s going to be available at Edmonton’s pick. Eiserman scored a PP goal but was mostly invisible. Not great from him.

Agree. He's probably not making it to the Oilers pick, neither is Beckett Sennecke, who I like also. Terik Parascak is a good offensive option there, except he is a defensive liability and isn't a good skater. There are some RHD with size that could be available like Charlie Erlick, RJ Emery or Dominik Badinka also.

I hope the leafs exit the first round and he is the scape goat…I really would love to get him on the ducks and not have to pay much in the trade lol

The stage is set for him to take a lot of heat but I don’t want Marner anywhere near this team
