  1. My last post in this thread about this , Laine’s demise has been greatly overstated. The concern for Laine is health. His “down year”this year, he was still on pace for 27 goals.  Which would have been second on this team this year, first last year and second the year before that. He’s basically been a 30-35 goal scorer with 40+ potential/peak.

If we get him for a late first rounder and a maybe prospect or two. He comes here, plays 60-70 games a year and scores 30 goals. That’s a whole lot better than  anything we have. He’s not that bad defensively. He’s right shot and he’s young. If Columbus wants to move him. I’m all over that. He’s probably a bit overpaid now, but it’s a win win, you sign him for cheaper long term or you get a 10 million dollar player playing lights out and scoring 40 goals.

Honestly don’t understand people’s fascination with Laine on this board. People complain about the terrible defense in front of our goalies and you want to bring in yet another inept defensive player who is also a very streaky offensive player

The fascination is that he scores goals, something this team famously does not do.

  3. Also I really hope Russians can play at world events soon, feels pretty bad to punish these kids for their governments crimes. I know their government is very intertwined in their hockey, but I hope they can find some solution.

Elite Prospects mentioned they were kind of lower on Leo Carlsson until they saw him play against his peers because how dominant he was. I wonder if Silayev would look. He’s played big minutes against men as a 17 year old.

  4. I don’t really want Verbeek drafting on immediate handed need. If he thinks Levshunov is better, sure, but take BPA and figure the rest out. I have a hard time imagining he passes on a 6’7 hard working lock down defensemen. He’s left handed, but all their best Dman are offensive. I also don’t think you see Silayev for another at least 2 years.

  5. Going with the hypothetical that the Ducks draft Anton Silayev

Ducks probably don’t see him for another 2-3ish years. At the earliest, both Gudas and Fowler will be gone, so that does open up

    Mintyukov

    Silayev

    Zellweger

both Zelly and Mintyukov will be due for contracts as well. So I can see the logic you’ll have Silayev on a rookie deal with both your other blue chip guys on their second deals, presumably when the team is competitive

This is funny to me, because multiple things …. You say like Verbeek does, when has Verbeek ever said he cares about LHD and RHD.    He said he wants to add a top 4 RHD in free agency.   Which everyone on this sub agrees with.   He said I put LaCombe in a bad spot playing him on his offhand as a rookie.   Never LHD can’t play on their offhand.   Then you say, Chicago only wants big defenseman……. Or maybe they drafted all their big defenseman so they can add their “Makar” or shorter fast offensive defensive and have all the big boys to protect him / fill out the rest of their D core.

also not saying your points are wrong, just you are making assumptions not based off anything.   That’s like saying blank team drafted 6’4 wingers they will only draft another tall winger.

GMs are building a roster, no one drafts the same type of player every draft.   You draft off of a combo of what you think your teams needs and BPA.

like Verbeek traded for cutter and said, we don’t have another player like him in our system and don’t see anyone in the draft comparable.    There are plenty of 6’3 power forwards in every draft doesn’t mean he’s just going to draft one because that what he likes or thinks we need.   He’s going to pick based off whom he thinks makes the team better….

all this being said we probably have a Belarus flag on our d core after this draft.

Pretty much every quickly assembled mock I saw had us taking Silayev. I’ve sold myself on him a bit. He’s signed with Torpedo through 2025-2026, so we wouldn’t see him for awhile

“The good news is that his defensive play has continued to grow as well this year, with Silayev already looking like an imposing force on the backend due to his size, physicality, and remarkably smooth skating for someone of his size. He maintains good gaps during rush defense, and his sense of timing for when to close out with a hit or a quick jab to get knock the puck away from an opponent with his massive stick is impressive for a 17-year-old playing in a high-end pro league.

His poise and work ethic are really positive traits as well, as he goes on the ice to work hard and try to win games. Silayev isn’t the flashiest player, and doesn’t cheat for offense, instead trying to find the best possible play he can make without compromising any dangerous chances in the other direction.“

Not sure if this matters to what Beek was saying. Silayev, Demidov, Lindstrom are all LH.

Draft I don’t think it matters a whole lot. For Silayev it does seem relevant. You’d have Zellweger, Mintyukov and Silayev on your left side

Are there any quality UFA Defensemen this year?  Not that we have a shot at getting one, but I'm just curious.  Otherwise, I guess Fowler will continue to be "The Man."

Matt Roy is probably a target. Montour is out there, Brett Pesce. There’s a couple that makes sense as Ducks targets

Now we can spend the next 2 months analyzing who Verbeek is going to pick, and get it completely wrong.

Was there anybody on these boards who correctly predicted the Carlsson pick?  All I remember was everybody saying Fantilli, Fantilli, Fantilli.

That’s half the fun. I got Mintyukov right, that’s the best I’ve ever done.

I truly believe it suits the blackhawks rebuild to draft demidov.   Suck again next year with no pressure to play your #2 overall pick.    Get another top #5 pick.   Then bring over the Russian and your top 5 pick (I assume an D man) and if you don’t move up you still get the chance at the McKenna lottery in 26 draft.

Probably. You can justify taking a D-Man If you’re Chicago as well. They don’t really have a whole lot of them in their system. Korchinski and maybe Vlasic. Chicago is a wild card. Staying at 3 is nice, so we don’t have to pick up the crumbs, we still get a good selection of guys we can take.

  12. I’m not someone who thinks the lotto is rigged, but man they do themselves no favors. Last year the Columbus pick gets leaked early by their host and their prized organization mired in controversy is the only team that moves up and gets a generational superstar. This year their host tweets out a photo of what looks to be the draft lotto results like 5 hours early lol.

It must be deeper than this if the Kings refused to play him, especially in the playoffs. Something must be seriously wrong, because where there's smoke there's fire. A team that wants to win a playoff series would seriously not play someone who would score goals for it? I don't buy it.

You also mention the bottom six to plug him into, but our team is already made up of Zegras, Terry, Carlsson and then a full dozen of bottom-six forwards, we need legit top-six talent so that Vatrano and Strome are permanently stapled to the 3d line. Kaliyev ain't it. Vatrano is already him and busts his tail off every night to boot.

Vatrano is also god awful defensively and takes awful penalties. Verbeek correctly assessed that his bottom six provided zero offense all season long. Kaliyev would give you better options. The ducks were made up of tons of BAD bottom sixers. Arthur Kaliyev doesn’t make this team a contender, but it’s incremental improvement.

I don’t know if I agree that there must be something wrong, playoff teams aren’t typically friendly to young players. LA has failed to really develop any of their blue chip prospects. I truly don’t know what Blake is expecting from Kaliyev, so much so he’s defending Dubois, but publicly complaining about Kaliyev.

You're not Verbeek, though, and he doesn't exactly like low-effort guys. Give him Vatranos all day long.

I don’t really get the hate that Kaliyev’s gotten. It’s weird he gets called out by name when you just signed a guy for 8.5 million for the next forever playing on your fourth line that put up 40 points and 1 in 5 games in the playoffs. They didn’t even play Kaliyev. His metrics are solid, he’s not lit up the score sheet, but scores respectful levels. I’ll gladly take a shot on him seems like a guy you could slot on your bottom six and move up when injuries happen
