I think LaCombe could be the odd man out instead of Zellweger at the moment. Verbeek does love size, especially on defense, but carrying one smaller defenseman wouldn’t be a big deal. Zellweger’s looked like the real deal since scoring his 1st goal. I also think if we take a LHD he’ll move slower through the system unless he’s dominating the AHL and forces a decision. Even that could be 3 years out. Dickinson for example doesn’t turn 18 until June, so he’ll spend 2 more years in the OHL. A lot can happen after all that time.

Zellweger scoring on about a 30 point pace in his small look this season. If Verbeek is passing on him for size in Lacombe I will weep.

If they are picking 5th, I would draft Parekh and just turn him into a RW! 😂

You at least try and see if the guy can pot 30 on the blue line lol. Parekh’s numbers are so insane. Wouldn’t hate the swing, he’s also RHD, so he wouldn’t necessarily get log jammed. I’m also pretty high on Catton

  3. 4/5 are tough

Parekh is someone I could see the Ducks drafting. Offensive defensemen with eye popping numbers playing on Saginaw is a familiar archetype. He’s kind of all over the place by different guys. People have been saying his defensive woes are over exaggerated, others saying they’re not exaggerated enough

Meh, just too much of a coincidence for me, both Etem and Lindstrom from Medicine Hat. I'll just stand by my list of who I like and don't like.

Sure. Just a thing to look out for is Gavin McKenna plays for Medicine Hat and he’s looking to be THAT GUY in the 2026 draft

Here's the thing about Lindstrom: He plays for Medicine Hat. In one of the scouting videos I saw of him, one of the bigger concerns was his skating, not that it was bad but because it was described as too upright. Now, like I said, he plays for Medicine Hat and since 2010, there have been two other Medicine Hat forwards that were ranked in the top 10. Hunter Shinkaruk (who is no longer in the NHL) and our old buddy Emerson Etem. I'm just afraid of lightning striking twice if Verbeek picks Lindstrom. He's a big producer (in juniors like Etem) and has an awkward skating style (like Etem).

    Levshunov is whole different gripe.

Just to put it out there, those were almost the exact same concerns with Leo Carlsson’s skating, and he’s been fine. Lindstrom is a bit of the wild card, he’s been a rapid riser, but he’s got the physical stuff you can’t teach. He’s going top 5 definitely. I’m still in favor of Demidov personally, but I see the appeal with Lindstrom.

I kind of hate that the coyotes are going to have competent, money spending owner with a buttload of picks and prospects to deal with. The West could be a decade plus brawl with the young talent and assets that Chicago, San Jose, Minnesota, Arizona and Anaheim have.

As someone who lives in Arizona it’s pretty heart breaking and doubly so for fans. They’ve put up with pretty much endless incompetence and right when the team is on the up, they get robbed of the team, all because of rich people’s greed and incompetence.

That’s not good though and given what happened under POS Murray, the organization shouldn’t be putting itself in this position. It’s a good way to get players not wanting to be here and not getting the best out of them.

anymore issues like this and verbeek should be fired.

Again, it just depends on what actually happened. It didn’t sound like there was some scandal, just that Management were coordinating on ice workouts by assisting with housing/lodging which is against the rules and that there was some concern that players felt pressured. I absolutely agree that if Verbeek is bullying players into doing things then I want him gone, no question. I just feel like if that were the case at this point it would be being reported differently. This happened to the canucks a couple of seasons ago I believe.

Then why don't other players wear it?

Because when people try, fans fill their diapers about it. Gordie Howe is a mountain Rushmore player, people wee his number? Just because Lemieux wore a unique number his is untouchable?

You know there are some unwritten rules in hockey. While it might just be a number, no one wears it.

He didn’t play for the Ducks. We don’t league wide retire every hall of fame player.

That’s not the kind pressure or intimidation that is good for the organization imo. Probably breeds anxiety and resentment more than anything.

Maybe? They mentioned someone complained. So it did rub someone the wrong way whether that was internally or externally. I try not try read too much into things I have no clue about

  11. Ducks were fined for having Ducks prospects go down to that Florida trainer, I guess they assisted in way they were not allowed to facilitate that training and Friedman states vaguely that there was some “pressure” from management to go to that training.

  12. My preferred move is trading for and signing Necas long term. But that also has downside. He’s not going to come cheap and his contract is probably also not going to be cheap. You’re also committing to him long term, so it better work. Necas is also a clear step down in terms of goal scoring.

So you choose, arguably the better all around better player, more in line with your core age, but will require shipping out premium assets and commitment long term.

    or

the better goal scorer, with a long, long track record and production and winning news, but he’s clearly on the back end of his career

The Ducks won’t get Stamkos unless they significantly overpay like they did for Killorn, who stated as much. It’s got bad news written all over it especially when every RFA needs a new contract in two years

I mean, in 2 years Fowler, Gudas, Vatrano, Johnston will be off the books freeing up about 15 million

Killorn and Strome will have 1 more year, so movable or dumpable

Max I’m giving Stamkos and absolute max is 3 years 7, that’s a very hesitant max, so I’m not sure I’d even go there.

i get the hesitance, it’s certainly not my #1 move, but he meets all the criteria of what the team needs. He’s a winner and a leader. I just wouldn’t hate it

  14. Stamkos immediately makes the top 6 better, gives you the ability to shift guys like Strome, Vatrano down, making your depth way better. Gives you a legit shot on the PP and a guy who can pot the sick passes Leo and or Z have been dishing out all year just for someone like Lundestrom to whiff the shot

  15. When was the last time a team traded up in the top 5-10? Just feels like a prohibitively expensive and unnecessary. There’s going to be multiple players you like on that range and giving up the cost doesn’t seem right unless it really is someone, but you often won’t know for several seasons. As good as Will Smith has been he’s not been in the NHL compared to his peers of Bedard, Carlsson, Fantilli who have all produced at the nhl level. Not saying he won’t, just that he hasn’t.

I’m not moving down, unless I’m absolutely sold on someone further down the list. The top end of this draft isn’t as wide open as it seems.
    Celebrini

    Demidov

    Levshunov

    Lindstrom

Are pretty locked in. Past that it’s more open, but I also think there’s a decline. The power of having higher pick is having options. Ducks didn’t have to worry about selecting Carlsson based on if he was selected before them because they had first dibs after Bedard. That’s why that freedom is so expensive

  16. EPRinkside did another mock draft. It had us dropping to 7th overall 🥲and taking Silayev and Cole Beaudoin at 25 with EDM’s pick. Here’s their skippet on Beudoin

This is the type of player you win with. Cole Beaudoin has an incredible work rate. He never quits on a play and can overwhelm players with energy alone. On top of that, he flashes a good amount of skill. A future fan favourite.

    I don’t think it’s stupid at all.

he’s basically saying he wants him to be one of the leaders of the team, whether that’s an A or C.   If you get your best players to become leaders and to hold themselves to the highest standard they will not accept it from anyone else on the team.   I see it as our HC pushing our very talented / gifted young star to go from a very good prospect to become an elite 2 way player.

it raises the standard on everyone on the team.   Yeah he doesn’t hold the vets accountable, well they won’t be here when we are trying to win, in my opinion the vets were brought in more to show how to prepare everyday as a professional athlete.   What it takes in terms of preparation off the ice, at practice, on the ice.    Planting seeds that don’t necessarily bate fruit after 1-2 seasons.

but then again I could be alone in this thought….

I don’t have any issue with holding Z accountable. I think I, along with everyone else on the board who are taking issue are annoyed that it’s literally just one player being held to this standard and it’s clearly not raised the standard of the rest of the team. The rest of the team continues to make bad turnovers, continues to take awful penalties. Players who were brought in specifically for their leadership. I don’t mind trying to hold Z into THE GUY for this team given his personality, but it’s ineffective and contrived when it’s the only thing you’re doing to hold players accountable
