    Let's bat this scenario around:

The Ducks end up with the 5th OA.

What current NHL player would you - realistically speaking - want to or try to trade that pick for?  Go!

I don’t know specifics, but the only tier of player I’m trading a 5th overall pick for is like E Petterson tier player.

Like maybe someone like Marner if he’s on the block

  2. Terry expressed desire at playing the PK next season. I’ve been asking for that for forever. He’s the perfect Poker, quick, defensively sound, smart and can make something happen out of nothing.

I think this quote is the most interesting:

“It was at the end of summer that Zegras estimates that he began to feel something wrong. Add in missing camp and most of the preseason as his camp and the Ducks slogged away toward a three-year bridge extension worth $17.25 million, and the injury worsened as he tried to play catch-up with his teammates.

“I started feeling some stuff,” he said. “Didn’t really know what it is. Kind of when I got back on the ice. Just skating. Might have ramped it up a little too quick or something. I didn’t take care of it like I should have and maybe been on top of it. Obviously coming back into training camp is a whole different animal. These guys are playing at a different pace than you skate in summer so that probably didn’t help too much.”

We all speculated that his lack of training camp caused the groin injury, but it seems he had it before training camp and wasn’t smart about it.

I like we as fans always underestimate how important proper training camps are. Tweaked something, got like 2 days of training camp in and started playing at full speed. Hopefully he comes back 100%.

There’s little glimmers of hope that this team can really improve next season.

  4. Eric Stephens put out a fantastic article on Zegras.

Zegras opened the season with a lesser grade of the same groin injury that kept Couture out pretty much all season. Pretty impressive his defense was as good as it was.

“That’s a bit of a grind to go through,” Zegras said. “For hockey players, your groins are obviously very important. And I don’t want to say breaking my ankle was a blessing in disguise, but it gave me time to fully recover on the groin front. I’d say now it’s probably the closest I’ve felt to 100 percent. I’d say it’s a pretty good feeling.“

Zegras identified this season as the most adversity he’s ever gone through. Kind of general hockey player quotes of “controlling what I can control” stuff.

he did have a interesting quote at the end of the article:

“Obviously, it’s very exciting,” he said. “All these guys are great hockey players. I feel like they’re all around that age, 20 to 24. Nineteen, some of them. If my role is to be a leader and help, try and work on that. If my role is to pass the puck to Leo and let him do his thing, that’s the role I’ll play.”

it’s pretty clear he’s getting pushed so hard to be a leader for this team. Maybe contradicts the idea that management doesn’t want him. article has an interesting tone, but I stand by that it’s clear the ducks should not trade him. He’s a vital piece to this team.

In the Avs game today they mentioned Bednard was almost fired after his first season but wasn’t and has since then went on to 7 straight playoff appearances!

Unless the rumors that Cronin had a one year contract was true, he's definitely getting at least one more season. I do think that if the team goes on any of those double digit or several 7-9 game losing streaks like that have the past two years, I can't think he survives that, however the NHL is mostly a bunch of sunk cost fallacies.

fun that Rempe got the first goal in the Rangers v Capitals series.

Watching Rempe play is hilarious. Looks like a baby Giraffe on ice skates, fights a guy, takes a questionable penalty and plays like 4 shifts a night.

  7. I think the Ducks aren't really needing for anything int their system right now. Carlsson, Gauthier, Terry, Zegras, McTavish. Defense is Mintyukov, Zellweger, Luneau. They have some secondary pieces like Colangelo, Lacombe and other B level prospects on both ends. I know they maybe could use a RHD and a dynamic offensive winger. You can justify either one with pick 2-5. Levshunov, Silayev, Catton Lindstrom, Demidov are all guys I'm taking above Eiserman personally, but it's BPA always. If you think that's Eiserman then go for it. Just not liking his game much, but man can he shoot the dang puck.

If that's true, it's not going to float once he gets to college. My gamble on him is that college will set him straight and improves his game. Also, he's one of the youngest in the draft. He just missed being in next years draft by two weeks. I kind of feel like this is the "gamble" draft. Celebrini is a sure fire NHL'er and the rest is pick your poison.

I would see the vision at 5 maybe. Just not my guy, but I don’t work for the team. I trust the ducks scoutingdepartment

I think all the negativity surrounding Eiserman is overrated. You can come up with a complaint about any prospect. Fact is he shoots and scores then repeats. I've watched scouting videos of him then watched scouting videos of Gauthier from the same producer. Very similar in some respects.

Yeah, that’s the crux of all scouting as a whole. I’m no scout, just a guy who has too much time on my hands come April because this team sucks.

Eiserman is either going to either make a team look real dumb or real smart. Hes got what a lot of teams want, he scores. After a bit of a free fall his rankings have kind of stabilized. There’s also been rumblings he’s not a teammate favorite. I just think you can take a better chance at 2nd-5th overall.

He's tall yes, but big? I don't think I'll go that far. He gets pushed around by smaller players. Noah Warren is big. Silayev isn't quite beanpole skinny but I wouldn't call him hulking either.

That said, my personal preference after seeing Gauthier with Carlsson would be Eiserman (that's of course if we don't get Celebrini). Gauthier-Carlsson-Eiserman would be a goal producing factory.

He was 17 years old this entire last season and played against men in the KHL. Listed as 6’7 just under 210lbs. He’s going to get bigger and stronger.
I’m not a huge fan of Eiserman in the top 5.

I do think he's got some work cut out, but I also think he's done a lot of foundational groundwork behind the scenes that just takes some time to truly see the effects of. But there absolutely needs to optically be improvement next season.

One thing I'm a bit worried about is leadership in the locker room. I know a lot on here don't put much weight into the value of leadership, but I think it can be really important and is something that really can be the glue that keeps teams together and not completely collapse through adversity and implode.

This is something already going into this season that felt like it was lacking, and arguably the best leader in the locker room, Silfv, is now gone. I don't think there is another player who can really fill that void currently on the team. Not Killorn, not Cam, not Gibby, not TT, not Z...MacT and Leo I feel are too young and shouldn't be given that responsibility so soon. And a role like that is hard to fill with someone coming in. Unless they are so universally respected around the entire league.

Unless someone really matures over the off-season, I just don't know how this gets better....

I wouldn’t be surprised if Gudas lands the C.

i can't imagine Victor Hedman being a comp for anyone except Victor Hedman.  too... singular.

Comp as in, big as hell, mobile defensemen. When you look at Silayev, the reason you salivate is the chance that you get a guy that’s like Hedman, not to say he’ll be a Hedman clone, even at his peak, but the comp is the physical traits.

I was just curious to see what scouts were saying about the other hulking defensemen that are in the league see if there was similarities.

Just watched a recent shifts video of him. Of course he's big but skates well. Not very physical, relies on his stick. Decently good passer but not on the backhand. I think he only shot the puck a couple of times which were easy saves. Defensively around the net his size is kind of a hinderance. He's good but Central Scouting has him ranked #1 which is hilarious. Demidov is easily the most talented Euro in the draft.

I was kind of curious about how Silayev's most obvious comp, Victor Herman, was scouted. I did find this blurb.

ictor Hedman is one of the fastest, smoothest skating d-men around, the irony in this is that he comes in at around 6'7" and 230lbs. He has excellent offensive instincts, which makes sure that he gets involved in the play frequently. He's got amazing vision and play making skills which make him more then adept at running the PP, he still gets plenty of time on the PK and is on the top pairing there, so defensively he is proficient as well. Has sound positioning skills and uses his size to his advantage, does not get beat often. He will likely be the next generational defenceman to enter the league, very few like him, plays like Chris Pronger. The one difference would be that he is not as physical or aggresive as Pronger, but he has the size and playmaking skills. Another downside would be that he seems to have run into a little bit of injury troubles this year, it shouldn't hurt him too much as his potential is too vast to pass up.

I could not find anything about Tyler Myers another comp.

Logan Stanley didn't have the mobility and skating skills that Silayev has. He's going to be interesting. Not quite profiling like the best of his comps, probably better than the worst of them. I did kind of forget that Tyler Myers was pretty damn good during his first few years. He's going to be a pretty big wildcard.

That sucks. Hope Jamie is healthy and finds his form next season.

trade is starting to look like a Verbeek masterclass. I really hope he can get going next season and stay healthy. Such a bummer he hasn't been able to stay healthy after showing promise his rookie year.

  15. Silayev is difficult to judge. He’s obviously unique in his size, but also other factors. He has the most points ever in the KHL by a DY defensemen, not very many NHLers have played on the KHL that young, Orlov is the only one I could find. Simashev went 6th overall last year with a similar profile, big, smooth skating defensemen. Silayev has 1 more point than Simashev and Simashev is in his D+1. Although Silayev has gone a long, long time without getting on the scoresheet.
