Panthers are slamming the Lightning’s window shut

It’s a tough ask for someone to go to a new team and immediately be a captain. I think it’s internal, but Verbeek has made it known he’s not super happy with internal leadership.

No you couldnt honestly. I saw Killorn coming to the Ducks from a mile away and both him and Gudas seem to me are guys that would take a big pay day over winning as neither one of them has made huge earnings during their playing careers as they weren't star players. Stamkos and Marchessault have made huge earnings and likely would rather win again before they retire so will take less for the opportunity instead of coming here, kind of like what Corey Perry does every year with a contender. Made his money with the Ducks now signs for cheap with teams that can win.
Money talks, it always does. It’s being close minded to assume it doesn’t.

Guarantee Stamkos or Marchessault are not Ducks next year. Nice to dream, but both players will look to play on better teams and win the cup to end their careers. I would even expect both to take less money for a chance to win as they have made their career earnings already, instead of riding into the sunset on a rebuilding team that won't be in the playoffs before those 3-4 year contracts are up.
Could’ve said the same thing for Killorn and Gudas

Hagens is in the 2025 draft. Ziemer and Stiga this year.
I liked the dish from Stiga. I really want him with the second first.

Relevant potentially

Gauthier - Carlsson - Marchessault
Killorn - Zegras - Terry
Vatrano - McTavish - Strome
I think that gives you a top 9 of guys who can play anywhere and you can mix and match until you find something that works, so it doesn’t even have to look like this. Question is do you feel comfortable giving 3-4 years for Marchessault? I could talk myself into it, but it’s not my favorite thing. It’s either him or Stamkos in FA, obviously outside of Necas there’s not really been any smoke on trade targets so I don’t really know who could be an option.
I really think this version of the team could be a playoff contender.

I wonder if you could get him at 3x7.5-8. aAV would be real high, but the term better. Ducks have about 2 more years of freedom to kind of just pay whoever whatever, but then all thrbRFAs are due. In 3 years they kind of get second wind with Fowler, Killorn, Gudas, Strome, Gibson coming off the books in the next 2-3 years, which is about 20 million. You could get away with 4x7 but it’ll be a risk.

There’s fair and there is what the Ducks would have to offer him which would like be 4 years at around 7 mil aav as my guess
I dont HATE it, but not my favorite.

What does a fair contract for Marchessault look like?
He’s interesting, about a 60-65 point player 25-30 goal scorer, with two outlier years, one being this year with 42 goals and 69 points. Metrics are better than Stamkos, but hasn’t ever had the counting stats Stamkos has had. He’ll be 34 in December. Marchessault made comments around the TDL about trying to set his family up well. So he’s looking to get paid with term. 5mil per year is the most he’s ever gotten. I would guess he’s probably around Terry’s contract. I don’t know the guy, but based on the comments, I’d assume he’d probably go where he gets term.

oh right, i do agree with all this....but the main point im trying to bring up is Z BEHIND the net. I just don't know how a PK defends that. They could take away all his passing options, and ok, so he just does the Michigan and scores. I dunno, doesn't that sound like a goal 9x out of 10??? I guess they could chase him from behind the net, but then that completely dismantles their PK set up.
Oh yeah! But even in the small sample size, I did like his vision and he looks like he could have some really good hockey sense, too, which could mean Cutter could end up being a VERY good player for us.
this 1000000%. He thinks he's McDavid out there. But he passes when he should shoot, and carries the puck when he should pass...I saw him accomplish it once all season....against the Sharks....so essentially minor league D. TT didn't seem like a guy who could hang with the best last season.
I liked what I saw of Cutter's one game, personally. I just saw potential. Obviously the execution wasn't entirely there, but I saw more than just a shooter.
Cutter really added the play making in college this year. All good shooters have to adapt as teams play their shot more, I’m really excited for Gauthier.

Alexandre Carrier could be an interesting RHD option. Don’t know that Nashville lets him go, but has put up some decent points and has good defensive metrics, he’s only 27 as well.

The only young guy he didn’t mention was mintyukov. Maybe he just wasn’t specifically asked about him. Had some praise for zellweger and playing is off side. Really liked colangelo.
when it comes to the draft. I have no confidence on predicting what he’ll do if Leshunov is off the board and we don’t get Macklin
Lindstrom is my guess. Checks a lot of boxes the Ducks like typically.

No team is going to give Stamkos 4 years, and if they do the. I’m glad he isn’t here.
Meant to say no competitive team, sorry sometimes I forget to finish my thought lol.

I don’t think either player is signing those, especially in Anaheim. They are getting 4 and 6 years respectively imo. Stamkos isn’t signing for two years less than Killorn

Stamkos 2 years 7-8 million AAV
Matt Roy 3 years 5 million AAV?
Stamkos’ contract would end before conflicting with the RFAs, he gets more than he probably would for a contender.
No idea what Roy commands, he’s making over 3 right now.

I’ve said this many times in the past, but whenever Cronin talks I feel better. He’s very smart and insightful. I really liked how he reflected on his own short comings, that was nice to see. I like the guy a lot, but he’s really gotta put it together next season.

Agree, you’d also have to add more for EP but that’s what I’m thinking as well. Wouldn’t touch Marner with a ten foot pole. Id give it up for Kyle Connor but the problem is that the type of players worthy of trading the pick for usually aren’t on the market.
Yeah, Marner is a weird one. He’s been over a PPG player since 2018, he’s almost a PPG player in the playoffs, but man is he Toronto’s whipping boy. Doesn’t do himself any favors as well. He also kills penalties. I have a hard time passing on him. Contract is almost up as well and I doubt he gets a raise.
