Meh. Zegras, McTavish and McGinn are all skating and are likely to return soon. Terry's injury doesn't sound serious.  I'd rather just use our fill-ins until all of our guys return. Assuming Vatrano doesn't get moved, when healthy we're looking at something like:

    Vatrano-McTavish-Terry

    Zegras-Carlsson-Killorn

    Lundestrom-Strome-Silfverberg

    Jones-Groulx-Leason

    [McGinn/Johnston]

I don't see much point in adding more 4th liners to that group.

Fair, I was just looking and was kind of surprised .

He's had injury problems this season, but he played a full 82 games in 2022-23 and had 18G/22A on the Rangers' 3rd line while getting barely any power play time. He was actually the 5th best forward on the Rangers last season in even strength points. That's why I don't think the Rangers are too keen on trading him, and why a lot us us like him. He could very easily bounce back and be a 20-25 goal guy for the rest of his career in somebody's top-6.

Even if he’s a solid middle six 40 pt 15-20 goal guy id be happy. Gotta have those guys in your line up.

  3. It’s pretty crazy how different this season would look if they had better special teams or a few bounces. 63% of the games lost this season being close, especially factoring in empty betters to put teams up another goal. I optimistically think that’s team could have a decently big bump next year given health and some improvement to the roster

Somebody please explain me why some people are so high on Kakko?

I looked at his statistic and seems like he is a bust who was taken as a 2nd overall pick. This season his numbers are slightly better than Max Jones. Besides, he is injury-prone and soft, according to NY Rangers fans. If you go to BlueshirtBrotherhood.com, Rangers fans want to trade him so badly, I wonder why? I know Ducks current and former managers have an affection for failed 1st round picks, but don't we have enough warm bodies on this roster?  Ducks need some REAL, PROVEN scorers, not another player who "needs a fresh start", we had enough of those in the past.

Being “high” means that I value what he brings. Even if he never scores 40 goals or a 100 points. He showed he can produce, he’s young, and he’s a well rounded player. The ducks have very little of that, but they do have tons of young talent. I don’t think the Ducks need Kakko to be amazing, I think he has talent to be better than he has been, but the player he is now is a player the Ducks have almost none of.

His best AHL stats were under Boucher who is now I believe an assistant with Toronto. It also brings into question why couldn't he do better under McIlvane. I thought McIlvane was the heir to the big job in Anaheim.

It’s possible that it’s stylistic. And if he goes somewhere else and plays well that’s okay. The way the Gulls are playing are the way the Ducks are playing stylistically. Whether it works or not you have to commit to that style

Kaako and a first for Vatrano? Ducks wouldn’t need to retain since Kaako his cap hit would off set retention and he needs a new contract. I’d prefer Schneider but I’d do it

I doubt you get a first back, but if you can swing Kakko and a 2nd or something I’d probably do it. I think first round picks are overvalued when you’re actually making the pick. Scroll through any trade history of lost teams when they were competitive and most times the picks they trade aren’t relevant. Where the Ducks are at right now I think they need to value a player and seek them when they can.

There are too many wingers still available that the Rangers could plug in on their 3rd line for a much cheaper price. Eberle, Toffoli, Zucker, Duclair, etc. They don’t need to give up a young player who scored 18 goals last season to fill that spot. Besides, Vatrano has been largely invisible at 5-on-5 when he’s away from McTavish. He needs linemates who excel at creating space for him and can make clean small area passes that he can one-time, or else he’s just another guy. Like last night - 0 shots for him despite 22:30 of TOI. Vatrano doesn’t create his own offense very often.

They don’t need to know that lol. In all seriousness, he scores. It’s that simple, he scores and he’s not a pure rental, that’s worth something

    Just saw this…

I mean, I could see why the rangers wouldn’t go for it lol

To be honest, from the outside I can’t. Their core is aging, they have Panarin playing the best hockey of his career. They really should be making a real go. A first round pick that will probably be nothing, and a middle six forward for an upgrade in the middle six via an all situations center and a 30 goal scorer that you get two runs with. I don’t think that’s an astronomical ask tbh

Vatrano has stated he wants to stay, and they can move him next year for a first unless he completely falls off a cliff.  He should be around 25-30 goals next year. Not hating it.

You might be able to move him for a first next year. You definitely could love him for more now, which is my argument. Feels like not maximizing your assets, but it’s not a massive failure I guess

I don't think Carrick was worth anything more than a 5th on his own, and Rico for a 1st always felt right. Sending them together is probably what got the condition attached to the 5th. This whole trade feels spot on to me.

Props to the Beeker for getting this one right!

I disagrees you can get a 3rd for a Carrick. Beek backaches them to get the first in my opinion.
